PSP-3000 - Image 1So did you think Sony just wanted to release a new PSP with a different name? Hell no. Famitsu.com and Impress Watch donned their sleuthing gloves and found some hidden features on the PSP-3000.

As it turns out, the goods are in the firmware. As Famitsu.com uncovered, there are now bonus options for your handheld, such as setting for "Color Space" under the system settings section of the XMB. For this particular feature, you can switch between Wide - which exploits the full colored depth of the revised hardware - and Normal - which gives you back the PSP-2000 level color.

A second firmware revamp is in the option for Automatic USB Connection. With this switched on, the PSP automatically goes to USB mode when a device is connected. And then, there's also a new noise reduction feature for video out, to cut out all that noise when outputting the PSP's video signal to television.

Those are some pretty interesting changes, don't you agree? But what's even more interesting is how the homebrew community will adapt and utilize these new firmware options for their projects. Stay tuned. We'll be watching out for more news to bring to you.

Sony is SO out of ideas. Automatic USB Connection? Color Space? Pfft. Give me DivX support, a real RSS client and some use for that old IR port (well, yeah, there ARE people who have a PSP-1000) and I might vaguely consider rescuing my PSP from the dust.

   Re: NA1NSXR - 2008-09-03
 » so out of ideas?

Why do people always feel the need to diss Sony for improving their product? You knew the full and complete featureset of your PSP-1000 when you bought it, and your handheld is still capable of doing any one of those things. To tell Sony, non-PSP owners, and PSP owners who would consider upgrading that the PSP should never be upgraded for god knows why is just rediculous.

Skype without a headset is a huge deal for me. I can keep the handheld plugged into the AC adapter in my room and boom I have an VOIP speakerphone that I can talk to my overseas friends with for -free-. The new TV out feature is excellent because the new PSP with the appropriate cable can be your portable video playback device. I can load it up with shows or movies and bring it to a friends house or whatever and play it on the TV for everyone. DivX is of limited value because any resourceful person would re-encode their video anyway to better meet the functionality of their device. I don't need an out of this world resolution video stored on my PSP. I need video that will look and play acceptably on the unit and on a TV, thats all. I'm not just going to throw my files on the memory stick as is.

Lastly, I don't know how a better screen draws any criticism.

In a nutshell, old PSP 1/2K owners have nothing to complain about, because their units still do everything they knew they would do when they bought it, and why would anyone complain about a company improving their product? If the new features aren't worth anything to you, why would you complain about it instead of just ignoring it? PSP-3000 will be nice, but not enough to make me trade up. But why would I complain about Sony and the PSP-3000

do they give the option of screen color thing. why would you want to use the psp-2000 screen

   Re: fungusinmymilk - 2008-09-02

hhmmm, probably so you can switch from old screen colours to the new bright ones and think, 'gee, this was so worth $300'

   Re: CheckMate0289 - 2008-09-02

if you want better battery life and your playing in the dark and dont need the "super daytime" screen. or if you just dont like the brightness or your trying to record your psp screen with a camera that makes things too bright.

Maybe its for old wallpapers you may have created/downloaded. With this feature the wallpaper colors will look the way you originally intended them to.

"what's even more interesting is how the homebrew community will adapt and utilize these new firmware options for their projects"
the latest PSP-2000 models cant even be hacked yet. and you think the -3000 will just magically have hombrew?

once DAX (or anybody else) figures out how to get Pandora running on these new boards, then I'll agree with the quote. until then, dont gut your hope up for anybody besides sony utalizing these new features

   Re: doubleA - 2008-09-02
 » Maybe

I think they were talking about developing these features for the current homebrew users out there on slims and phats. That makes a little more sense to me.

   Re: whitelightnig - 2008-09-02
 » wat?

how the hell does that make sense at all? these features are for PSP-3000 ONLY! (read the *****ing title)
"Color Space"? I dont think so. its not even possible on -1000 and -2000 PSP screens.

Automatic USB? we already have a plugin for that.
and Noise Reduction? possibly for the Slim, but big-*****ing-deal.

Re: Aces In The Palm - 2008-09-10
 » @majorbb100

no pandora hacks at all will work for the TA-088v3 boards
its my beleif that a pandora can work, because sony still need that route to service bricks and such.
when noobz discovered that a batt with serial number of FF FF FF FF will kick a psp into service mode they got ticked off at such a revenue loss and disabled it.
or my beleif. sony simply changed the value of the 4 bytes that trigger it say A0 FE 2D 2F or any other set of random hex variations.
meaning a batt with EEPROM modified by pin manipulation or software will no longer work in the newer models.
it's simple and they still have their quick fix method.

I would assume that the Automatic USB Detection would automatically charge aswell(so long as you enable 'Charge USB')
So this will help preserve battery life.
   by KingPepper - 2008-09-03
 » Hmm i wonder.......?

There could be one good reason for that setting to change from PSP2000 to PSP3000, think about it, improved graphics in upcoming games......as in switch to a special mode (Enhanced Graphics mode), of which the first two PSP, can NOT match........now that sounds like $ony to me, pissing off the owners of Phat PSP's(Myself) or Slim/Lite Owners with a far better machine.......
One question though that doesn't make any sense:-
Why stop making a Extended PSP Battery now of all times, when the new PSP needs it most?

What's the next "big" announcement about it? That it can play movies in 16:10 instead of 16:9? Give me a break.

   Re: Noobicious - 2008-09-03
 » no...

they will make a psp-4000 with a second analog that is mapped to the XO/[] buttons and say, "Damn, we're smart! Ka-ching!"
just another guess...

   Re: Silver-Tiger - 2008-09-03
 » ....

What the hell do you complain?!? Maybe your beloved Nintendo DS Lite has so much more features like the Phat.?
Oh wait, the only thing new IS the brighter screen. But hey, it's Nintendo, so there is nothing to complain.
Somehow I get the feeling that it becomes "cool" to bash Sony.

   Re: chessboxer - 2008-09-03
 » No

They won't make a PSP with a 2nd analogue stick. Developers couldn't make games which utilise a 2nd analogue stick could they without alienating the 37 million PSP owners in the world.

A 2nd stick might be on the PSP2 but that is at least 4 years away.

   Re: mr.x256 - 2008-09-05
 » -

Why do you say 4 years? I'd say its more like 2 years.

   Re: Nineball - 2008-09-08
 » silver-tiger's amazing logic

If I don't like the PSP-3000, then I *must* be a Nintendo fan. Sherlock Holmes should slap the taste out of your mouth for that pitiful piece of deductive reasoning.

I don't like the PSP-3000 because it isn't a significant evolution as compared to the PSP-2000 (which they discontinued).
   by Izento - 2008-09-03
 » Wow..........

And yet no one still has the bright idea to up the output volume of the PSP, because it is quiet as hell compared to an iPod or Zune.

 » your psp...

wants a Mega Bass logo, auto mp3 cover art downloads, a sony-made alarm program...

i still can't believe they expect people to buy 2 different types of cables for the slim so we can be backwards compatible with our friend's TVs. this constitutes a purposed design flaw.

   Re: doubleA - 2008-09-03
 » Dont worry

From what I see, we will soon get these probably in the psp-4000 which will get us to buy that. hey, who knows. retarded sony. can they just do some real firmware updates instead of google search and crappy visualizers. We could probably have some of the features of psp-3000 on our psp`s if sony wasnt so lazy and greedy. Such as the auto usb or noise reduction(slims). maybe not as good as better screen or mic but at least its something.

"Those are some pretty interesting changes, don't you agree? "

No, no not really, at all

and

"But what's even more interesting is how the homebrew community will adapt and utilize these new firmware options for their projects."

what theres gonna be a pixel fixer for the higher color depth

or something which tells you its in usb mode, without having to look down another couple of pixels to see it

or a noise fixer

seriously you cant do anything new with those at all
and its bogus

seems like a waste to me, some of the apps and homebrew games out there are genius.

 » Think iPod...

...and it all makes more sense. If Apple can release a new model 12 months after the previous one, which has maybe 2 new features, why can't Sony do the same with the PSP?

Also, Sony HAVE to keep ahead of the homebrew scene if they're going to get developers back on board. Sure, I've downloaded ISO's, but I always buy the games I like (32 so far) and I have the Phat or Slim if I want to play my games off Memory Stick.

Hey,

Check out this new site I found called GiftMonkey.com. They give away free high end Laptops, Video Game Consoles, iPods, Plasma TVs, and they even have GPS Navigation Systems.

This site is different from all of those others. They don't give you a time limit, and they don't make you signup for 10 sponsors yourself. All you have to do is try one of their sponsored offers like eBay (which doesn't cost anything), refer your friends, and they ship your free gift to your door, also free!
