New PSP Firmware expected this September - Image 1The following is an interesting PlayStation Portable OS development (read: firmware) update found by QJ.NET reader and forum member Robin123 over at the official PlayStation online site for Asia. It mostly revolves around PSOne classic Biohazard Director's Cut having a problem running on the PSP with official firmware 3.52.

Here's the official statement found on the said site:

If you are using PSP with OS version 3.52 to play PlayStation classic game Biohazard Director's Cut (CAPCOM) which is purchased at Playstation Store, there might be malfunction happening in the ORIGINAL, BEGINNER, and ARRANGE modes.

The malfunction is expected to be fixed in the next PSP OS Update (tentatively scheduled in the beginning of September). The game is running properly on PlayStation 3. We apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused.

Please kindly be advised to update your PSP to the latest version once the next software update is available.

Hmm, coincidentally the slimmer and lighter PSPs are also expected to arrive this September. As Robin123 pointed out, it feels like our beloved homebrew developers will be busy once again.

Spread the happiness. ON playasia, the psp's gps is finally on sale!! If you keep delaying, now would be a good time to buy it, with all the new homebrew including Deniska's 3d mode. http://www.play-asia.com/SOap- 23-83-7rqf-71-bh-49-en-15-gps- 84-j-70-1mij.html

 » stupid sony

This game ran fine on 3.10 OE-A.

When they update the compatibility of PS1 games, all they do is f*ck things up.
My Tomb Raider games haven't worked since 3.03 OE-A. Final Fantasy VII doesn't work worth a s*it on 3.40 OE-A or later. It always crashes.

That's what you get for using the latest firmware. I'm going back to 3.10 OE-A and using my plugin so I can select which POPS I want to use.

if your on an OE, im assuming your not using the psx eboots that sony made. so its not their fault.

» not a coincidence and old news

Sony already said that the new psps will have new firmware for tvout to work on them. So kinda old news, but the biohazard stuff is new.

 » so

They could just release 3.53 but it looks like they are waiting for 3.60.

So, will it be the same firmware on both PSPs?

   Re: BaSH (Unregistered) - 2007-08-16
 » maybe

It sounds like it. Imo, I think Sony was dumb to use 3.60 for the new PSP... rather put that on 4.00, and still continue the firmware >3.52 for the current PSP.

Or.. as you point out, the current PSP's can also use 3.60, but maybe with just the TV-Out options disabled or something.

   Re: Matt S. (Unregistered) - 2007-08-17
 » Sony is "dumb"?

Sure, they're "dumb" in a lot of ways, but not with this. Why would Sony want to have multiple firmwares for the PSP? All it would do is confuse customers.

And yes, a "new firmware coming in september" is pretty much a non-story since we've known since E3 that the PSP 2000 was running on 3.60.

i hope there will be a new custom firmware based on this one. i don't like sony firmware. in fact i don't even think i can use it anymore... (unless the hackers fixed that prob, i dunno)

» They do this on purpose!

They say:

The malfunction is expected to be fixed in the next PSP OS Update (tentatively scheduled in the beginning of September). The game is running properly on PlayStation 3. We apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused.

Please kindly be advised to update your PSP to the latest version once the next software update is available.

They do this for every Firmware!

They leave a BUG just so that they will have an excuse to make U update.

   Re: _F1 - 2007-08-17
 » Why?

Why the hell would they want an excuse to make a new firmware? It's illogical.
