Sonic Rivals

Today Sega has released some new screens for Sonic the Hedgehog's PSP outing, Sonic Rivals. The story starts off as a friendly competition between Sonic and Knuckles quickly gets intense as other rivals jump into the action. In the game players will be able to utilize boost moves and power-ups as Sonic's rivals try to trip, shove, and vault over Sonic while hurtling towards the finish line at breakneck speed. Negotiate wildly twisting 3D tracks, avoid hazardous traps and hazards, and watch out for the insidious Dr. Eggman and his myriad of contraptions. So go ahead and check out the screenshots by clicking on the thumbnails below.

 » YAY!!

FIRST POST! YAHOO!
And possibly the only useful one.
Looks like a good game. Impressive screenshots so far.
Are those supposed to be shots of a boss fight or a mini game?

 » Looks fine, but...

Great news...I've always been the Sonic fan.
I hope this is along ways into development, because the poligons look way to sharp and edgy...Kinda what the first Playstation game poligons looked like. If Eidos can come up with astonishing graphics on PSP like they did in Tomb Raider Legends, then I don't see why Sega would make such a mediocre looking Sonic game for the portable. Just a thought...But I really hope it comes out looking much better...At least then, I would buy it.

Watch as Sega continues to exploit the Sonic franchise in an attempt to draw in the long-jaded fans of the original!

In all fairness, "Sonic Team" hasn't come out with a good 3d game yet. They should have learned after the atrocious Sonic 3-D . . .

 » Oh so true...

I have to agree with Nietzsche on that.
Some 2D games should've never been messed with in the first place...Sonic being one of them. CastleVaniaHUMPH!! *gak* ...sorry, sore throat.

Wow, this looks really crappy, I really hope this isn't a picture of the main game, which it sounds like it is... Lets just hope not ;)

The real sonic spirit is totally gone :(

 » 11 is right

But the same happened to mario for Nintendo, the main mascot ends up in a non 2-d side scrolling environment, then ***** hits the fan and they appear in AO rated games doing 3-d smutshots.

» Lament of ever being a game...

That piece of garbage is an excuse of a game...I beat it on the third day...Nothing is special about it. I'd rather play Akumajo Dracula X or Dracula's Curse on my emulators...pfff.
It's a real shame, knowing Konami can do much better than that and still they fail to deliver a true NEW CastleVania.

what kind of ***** are you trying to pull here? sonic adventure was truely a fun game to play. yes you could easily beat it in a few days but for sonic games... THATS NOT THE POINT OF THEM, they are for fun, for speed play, its not some rpg that has to last 25 hours minimum, its not some fps that makes you do some ***** missions to progress, its not some racing game that takes trail and error to unlock tracks and cars with tedious goals. Its a speed game, this last gen has failed to capture that, it would be like trying to put sonic 1-3's speed on the NES anyways. Lets see how this new gen of sonic games shine and grow. The transition is over, game play will speed up and be refined now.

It seems you like slow paced games that require exploration and platform jumping. Konami as well as many other dev's have a hell of a time translating the feel and energy of older 2d games into an interactive world. There has to be alot more depth, exploration, mixture of genre's, 3d fighting, aiming, motion, interation, everything has to be rethought on a much bigger scale. For old 2d platformers like dracula x/ dracuala curse, castlevannia, sonic, and many others. the ps2 xbox gc era is only a half step to true sequels to these games. Why? Limitations of hardware for one, limitations of the dev, knowlege, and limitations of what you can do with the software.

transistions of generations-
1d, atari- 2d(8bit), nes, sms- 2d(16bit), genesis, snes

3d 1st gen, ps1, n64, sat- 3d 2nd gen, ps2, gc, xb, dc, wii- 3d 3rd gen-CG, ps3, xb360

the amount of information increases greatly with each generation of consoles, what works well in 16-32bit 2d will not neccicarily work well with 3d until it reaches the similar point in evolution. Like the snes and genesis we are now at another pinicale where graphics are starting to matter less and less. What you can do with the power of the system is mattering more and more. We have come full circle, lets see if the 2d magic is born again in the 3d releam with the ps3 and xb360

 » run umd

If this works with run umd i'd buy it.. if they actually announce these kinds of thins when they make the game it would increase sales anyone disagree? cause if i can't play it with run umd or anything using my 1.5 firmware, i won't upgrade and i won't pay one cent.
