GTA: LCSGrand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories has to be one of the most popular games for the PSP. Yet for those who still has to buy the game, a disappointing rumor is currently flowing in the netvine: a modified GTA: LCS UMD has been released and it will require a 2.60 to run it plus the savedata exploit has been patched.

It all started with JaysFreaky's post on our forums. He was trying the eLoader GTA save on his PSP when the game just resumes the eLoader save where it left off. He's been tinkering with it for three hours and out of frustration asked help by posting his problem on QJ's forums. A couple of people tried to help him yet none of the offered solutions solved JayFreaky's problem.

Here is where FreePlay came in saying this was not the first time he heard of someone having a problem with a recent copy of GTA working with eLoader. This leads to the assumption that a new version of the GTA: LCS UMD has been released where the save exploit may have been patched; hence his warning, "If you don't already own the game, buy it used!!"

Well, there's only one thing to confirm these inferences. Those who recently bought the game, if you're having the same problems let us know via the comments or let JaysFreaky know that he's not alone through the forum.

*UPDATE: JaysFreak has just put up a video of the problem he's encountering. The video was made by RocafellazThug who also posted in our forums the same observations based from his own experience.

» S*** must be so afraid of hombrew

S*** tries really everything to block homebrew.
I remember the interview with sony about apple, where the mentioned, that ps3 would be placed on the market as a great multimedia computer....What a joke at all, if you look on their psp policies.
Ok its speculative to say that sony forced rockstar games to patch the game for blocking the exploit, but i think they did so....
Yeah and about the modchip... Its easy to block it with all newer psps and the next hardware revision....
If sony keeps this way, then i only can say: good bye psp....

Well obviously - uncontrolled exploits can lead to piracy. They are a company you know - stop being a bunch of moaning *****es.

 » sony...

Even homebrew is a bad thing for sony. If people can get free homebrew on their psps then they won't buy as many games and that will mean less profit for sony. And they are already making a loss for every psp they sell, so selling games is their main income.

 » Homebrew

Homebrew helps game sales too, though. Look at GTA:LCS. Already a great game, but I'm sure alot of the copies were bought with 2.XX homebrew in mind.

Blocking homebrew also makes the homebrew scene bigger. We probably don't want to give up our homebrew cabapilities if a new game asks us to upgrade, so many people are less likely to buy that game. This just leads to more Isos's and stuff.

» Yes sony is a company like microsoft, apple, nintendo etc

I am fully against piracy and its fully ok to prevent it.
The sad side effect is, that piracy kills homebrew....cause of blocking everything...

Its like microsoft would prevent every office alternative to rub on the pc with the next update, cause more users writing on openoffice than on their own product. :-)

Its interesting, that the "windows hater number one" brought boot camp and allow to run the homebrew called windows on their machine :-)

S*** don´t be so rude against talented programmers, which are making your product so interesting and exciting...Homebrew advertises the psp in a good way....

Meh its the basic progression, honestly if you didnt own gta before hand then you missed out, those who did feel special, and the whining can stop, Rockstar made a good business decision deal with it.

O MAN I CAN'T DO ***** NOW!!!
Wait a minute.....I have a 1.5!
...and so should you
Don't worry, when (or if) the modchip comes out you will all be free hopefully. Can't wait for teh actual release date I wanna see if it works.

   by Bigperm - 2006-06-15
 » Wasnt this expected.

This should have been obvious that they were going to patch the exploit. Its just like when soft modding Xboxes, you have to get the older copies of Splintercell/Mech assault/007 to use the exploit.

Nothing new. Same old cat and mouse game.

» I will not buy any more psp games

when I got my psp I buyed metal gear aicd with it and then the next day went and got burnout and then pustforce and then gta lcs I have a 2.00 and now if I ever buy another game I will ask to test it in the shop to see if it will run I use my psp many as a web bowser and to play lua games and might downgrade to play some 1.5 stuff again as I enjoyed that. Sony really have anoyed alot of people with their dumb crapy updates none of them make me want to upgrade not even the flash is so old!! I might get another psp and get a mod chip but don't know how much they cost

 » .

i am on 1.5. i do not really care too much about this but i think that sony are being arse holes by doing this. what is the harm in homebrew games and a few emulators.? it would be different if you could run iso's on it.

   by Bob (Unregistered) - 2006-06-15
 » Looooong load times.

Holy *****.

This is the first time I see someone going through the process of starting his PSP till GTA UMD reaches ingame.
Those UMD load times sure are a b!tch.... LoL

The first loading screen here with my "backup" ISO takes only 3 seconds to load on 2GB SanDisk

Love live pira... err.. I mean personal backups ofcourse.

 » look in the mirror

the sad thing is that even if iso's were never used or ripped or ever existed in the beginning and only emu's were used sony would still be the butthole's they are and still block it. Sony should blame themselves as when the system came out there weren't that many great games released or made and what better way to use the psp and waste time then to play snes or genesis, and seeing as more great stuff is coming out via HB, nobody is going to want to give up their 1.5 or 2.0 psps.

   by QOTSA101 (Unregistered) - 2006-06-15
 » other past games?

I realised that if the gta is patched with 2.6 now will other past games 2.5 or below be patched with the current firmware? Doesn't matter to me as I have the games released when they came out but seeing as how Sony did this, what's stopping them from patching their other past games including Socom.
