Starving for news about the PSP Slim port of the nullDC Sega Dreamcast emulator for PC? drkIIRaziel, the dev working on the port, has posted a few clarifications about the project. The dev also released this video of the emulator running Crazy Taxi:

As you can see, the emulator's PSP port is running but at very low speeds. If you check out the current speed stated in the upper left of the video above, you'll see a speed of around 10%. drkIIRaziel says that this is incorrect and the speed is actually lower as the interpreter is running underclocked "to make the speed bearable". The RPS field, however, is accurate.

The dev believes that getting nullDC running at 100% on a PSP Slim is still possible, but makes no guarantees as he himself admits that it is quite likely that he will be proven wrong. The dev also reiterated that nullDC will only be for PSP Slim as the original PSP falls short in terms of RAM needed.

As for the code, currently there is "no dynarec, no optimisation, not even a single mips assembly line on the current source." The code will be made open source as soon as a stable build becomes available. After code cleanup is done, drkIIRaziel also plans to port it to Pandora and possibly the Wii. The PS3 is also a likely choice "if there's a way to get 3D access".

Thanks to thefungusinmymilk for the tip!

Looks good cant wait for a stable build, just hope the project can deliver at least a few games near to full speed.

Great work nevertheless

i don't want to be pessimistic, but in my eyes this emu will never run on 100 % or even on a playable speed. look at the N64 emulator. There were gigantic speed improvements, compatibility improvements, and still, only like 3 games or so are running good. I'm sure that StrnmNrnm made a great job, but after 2 years we still don't have a good running emu. I see the same future fort this thing.

Isn't the dreamcast a more powerfull system than the PSP to begin with anyway ?

Not sure about this though, but if it is, why even bother with trying to create an emulator on a weaker system ?

   Re: GW2 - 2008-08-02
 » yes it is

it is more powerful then psp to begin with.

   Re: bottmint - 2008-08-02

   Re: core2kid18 - 2008-08-02

I tried it out, and it's slightly laggy, among other things I can't remember and don't care to.

"I hope he fails because I have a dreamcast." Lmao. You're a tool.

Anyway, I don't see this becoming full speed, but playable because he seems real confident which makes me think he can do more with this emulator.

Also, let's face it, the homebrew scene hasn't seen something this exciting in a long time, so even if you don't believe in it, it'll still be great news hopefully.

I'm not knocking the devs that are putting out other homebrew, but when I read this I was just thinking, "Holy *****."

   Re: Apeaggedon - 2008-08-02
 » a tool?

dude the dreamcast is badass so leave that system and its games alone with homebrew.
i have no faith in him at all (on purpose).
by that time, the psp2 will allready be out so i were him id wait for the next psp to try wutever it is your gunns try...

p.s: i still hope you fail :)

The dreamcast is badass? Yeah, you know what other system is badass? The playstation, but now that it's on my PSP I've been replaying a lot of PSX games I wouldn't normally. Call me crazy, but I enjoy taking a handheld with me that plays games anywhere rather then hauling around a system.

You have no faith in him? Well aren't you a rebel without a cause you badass. : P Did you wear your anarchy shirt while you said that?

And also about the PSP2, well I'm glad you can see the future, win the power ball lately? And if you don't want this emulated, why give him pointers anyway? "If I were him, and I were making a system that I don't want emulated which doesn't make me a hypocrite, I'd wait for PSP2."

..Once again. Tool.

 » Wii

Someone needs to port this over to the Wii, it will run faster and I can finally have Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on a console without having to pay $80 for it on my PS2 ><

This is looking great, I hope it does get to full speed, if not on the PSP-2000 maybe on the speculated PSP-3000.
I only have a PSP Fat and I love it and what I've done with it, but if this can get to run on the Slimline or 3000 I might have to upgrade :)

   Re: Musev - 2008-08-02

$80 for a game that old? thats how much a new ps2 game used to cost when it was current.
   by Specht - 2008-08-02
 » sweet.

It's good news that it's plausible to get it running 100% on PSP. But it's better news that there's plans of a Wii version.

I really wish Sony would just let the RSX be available in Linux... I know, it's good enough that they let us have it in the first place, but DreamCast on the PS3 is almost a dream come true. Then again, I'm planning on getting one from eBay eventually anyway.

Can't some of you trust drkIIRaziel. He deserves a chance. How can you say I already have a DC? Who gives a f*&^. You don't have to use it. Give him some positive messages. Sorry QJ, but this is why I don't like reading your news no offense, but these people always send bad comments. Give some positive messages. I hope he proves you wrong.

   Re: GW2 - 2008-08-02

dont read the comments just read the article lol. if the comments ruin it for you its as simple as that.

I really hope you can make this emulator run faster we are not asking for 100% speed but little below that would be lovely, GOOD LUCK GUYS, please don't give up, i know you can succeed in making a this emulator, to prove so many people wrong..

doesn't the dreamcast have the original soul calibur? someone told me it does 0.0

   Re: Silenus - 2008-08-03
 » First one on DC.

Before it was called Soul Edge on PSX.
On the Dreamcast is actually the Best Soul Calibur to date.
Got a really high score on most gaming sites.
That is what you call a CLASSIC.
