Homebrew developer StrmnNrmn has returned from swimming in seas of code
and has confirmed positive progress on the audio code-Media Engine
integration. Daedalus R14 should now be capable of running audio
upsampling code (scaling audio sampling for more definition) in
synchronous mode or in two separate asynchronous modes: execution over
the CPU and execution from within the Media Engine itself. Positive
outlook and a fresh look to come at you at the full article! |

Keeping his promise yesterday, StrmnNrmn has finally released his Deadalus R13 Nintendo 64 homebrew emulator for the PSP. R13's biggest feature, as StrmnNrmn's previously discussed, are the savestate features - right now, it works pretty much like QuickSaves in various PC games. As StrmnNrmn elaborates: You can now save your progress at any point, via the Pause Menu (accessed through hitting the Select button). Savestates are written out to the memory stick, and consume around a megabyte per slot. You can load up a savestate at any time from the Pause Menu, or via the front end (hit the right shoulder button to swap from the rom list to the savestate list.) Other than savestates, the most significant change in R13 is a number of optimisations to the dynarec core which should give a 10-20% speedup depending on the title being played. I've tested these optimisations as much as I can, but if you find that roms which worked with R12 are now broken, try disabling 'dynamic recompilation' and/or 'dynarec stack optimisation' from the rom's preferences screen. Some of you (like G$718 in the comments section) may have bet two Star Ocean PSP Slims with 3.72 M33 and a 1.50 kernel that it wouldn't come out today, but guess all bets are off now! StrmnNrmn is the man! StrmnNrmn is asking for feedback, especially if some ROMs aren't working anymore on R13. Looking on the bright side, StrmnNrmn is now hoping that he could keep his momentum going and release "small, more frequent updates." Other relevant notes are available in the readme files included in the download links below. Thanks to JaXeRiR for the news tip submission!
