Nippon no Asoko de in action - Image 1It's always interesting to see PlayStation Portable titles with added functionality beyond conventional gaming. This latest title from Good Design makes use of the PSP camera and plays on your inherent skills as a cartographer with Nippon no Asoko de.

The game allows you to snap pictures using the PSP camera and create an original map of Japan. While it may seem like a lot of work to some people, the game has great potential and vast practical applications to non-natives visiting the country.

Once you're tired of mapping your personal version of Japan, you can also try out the Petamap GPS interface which features online mapping integration with Nippon no Asoko de's software. Using the Petamap, you can hunt down all the notable hotspots around your area and use them as reference for the game or even in real life.

Nippon no Asoko de is slated for a release this April 24 and is priced at ¥6,090 (around US$ 60). As with the other dynamic PSP titles similar to this one, this blogger wonders whether a localized version of the game will ever reach our shores.
