PSPWe reported earlier about a rumor that Sony is hinting a PSP2 with Sony allegedly emailing survey forms that seek feedback about how the PSP could be better. That's not the only "hint" that the Sony people are giving; apparently, there was a PSP focus group in New York wherein the guys over at Sony distributed preliminary questions that focuses on the PSP's functions and how the gamers used 'em.

If you're already rejoicing that indeed a PSP2 is on the way, well hold your horses. A PSP2 is still far from the horizon, instead a "PSP Fix" may be the reason for all those hints. Also, it seems that this PSP Fix will include an " "iTunes-like" downloadable content, e GPS functions, maps, and PDA life software apps."

As for the downloadable content factor, those who participated in the focus groups were asked to rank 7-1 "content like You Tube/User Videos, Music Videos, Full Length Movies, 30 Minutes TV shows, 60 Minutes TV Shows, HBO Programs and such, like The Sopranos." Will these be any indication of the features included in the fix? Your guess is as good as ours.

There was also a lot of talk about software emulation (for PS1 and homebrew) but the Sony rep was allegedly uninterested, or maybe he just didn't know what to say. What do you think about this rumored "PSP Fix"? Is it good or bad news? Tell us through your comments.

 » Anther firmware update?

The fix seem like more firmware updates to me. I wouldn't expect to see a PSP2 unless sales of the hardware plummet.

 » fix

how about a physical fix like the d-pad which sucks d@#k for fighting games like street fighter an when they release tekken, sony should listen to the people who use them and hire some of the guys who make homebrew apps an games instead of corparate wankas who are usualy the opposite to what people want

Im sure if we do have a fix on the psp sony will obviously block homebrew also it will be pointless if we will have to buy it all over, if it was some sort of fee i could understand that

When I first saw the survey, I deduced that these features were going to be included in firmware updates and first-party accessories, in order of importance so that they can determine which feature to prioritize and release in the proper time.

Theres no point in releasing a "fix" for the PSP. You don't fix what's not broken. The PSP isn't doing as well as it should be because they're up against the DS. Bring out more games for my friggin PlayStation Portable.

 » hahaha...

...hahahaha that design looks like a balloon, if sony do do this they'll probably make very few changes and just change the hardware to one that cannot use the modchip and that has uncrackable firmware

   by comedy - 2006-06-16
 » yeah,

this sounds more like what kind of firmware updates and things should be given priority, i mean they can't just open the flood gates and give us the choice of all the possible apps from day one.

that picture's from ages ago as bumbum (#8) said, it's a concept picture.

they woudln't replace the hardware, it's doing too well and they like to milk old hardware as long as possible. though saying that, they've brought out slimline ps2's and the psOne... still it's too early for them to alter psp, it's touted to be a big gimmick for ps3, so they certainly won't fool around with that.

 » Interesting

Well im on the board with this one, though i think it would be unfair in ways, a psp2 would be good because i would go out and buy one (oce i ever got enough cash of course) with it i can update with out worry since i already have a psp 1.5, so i could have a psp for homebrew and one for gaming...will see though

It does seem to be fake. I mean, just look at it!
Sony don't want millions of angry PSP owners on them.

 » PSP D-Pad

You can fix your D-pad by opening up your PSP and inserting a small cross made out of plastic (margarine tub lid, or any thing plastic) between the plastic D-pad and the rubber inlay below it. Games like SF2 and Darkstalkers Chronicle will work PERFECTLY. Yes, it fixes your D-pad. Google for it and there are walkthroughs online.

 » Good updates.. if firmware

The more components added to the PSP through firmware upgrades the more possibilities to hack the system. We need access to the PSP again like 1.0 gave us, but with a new firmware and without a damn overpriced modchip.

 » no

I'm not throwing down more on a new version of a system I barely use as it is. The DS lite, on the other hand, I still play my DS all the time, so I will get a lite eventually.

 » psp

I would have loved it if they made the psp just like the concept one. The analog would have been like the ipod's touch pad. THAT would be cool.

 » ?

The balding 50 year old men of Sony strike again.

This "PSP Fix" Will probably leave the old Model in the dark. They'll quit making the older model... ETC.
Wait.. Better online Gaming? Great. Now I can watch You tube videos. And online videos. But how are they going to do that? Extend the ram? Hopefully.

Good news for me.

 » blah blah blah

Err most of that c*^p has been slated for release for the PSP before any PSP2 comes out. Like someone else said, I think they are just trying to get a feel for which is most likely to recoup the most revenue in the shortest space of time. I like the idea of GPS, but doubt I'd buy one for the PSP unless its £50.00 or under. PSOne emulator? YAWN...... PDA style apps.? Its about sodding time but are u gonna charge me £40.00 for Notepad without a keyboard?

I think the one thing that most people would agree on the PSP needing would be some kind of keyboard, but seeing as homebrew are the *only* apps. that will benefit from this its doubtful that we will get one.

 » If....

If its new Hardware.....its bad, they wont b a 1.5 =(
BUT if it is just a new FW Update, then Sony can release it,
I can emulate it with Devhook 0.89t xD

 » first psp prototype

nahh.. I don' think that sony would release a different version of psp, and that photo i remember that I saw it several months ago and that was a prototype before the actual psp. So, maybe is all fake.

» The machine is TOO DAMN BIG!

Psp is going to lose to the light Lite just like it already is doing. Sony needs to listen even closer to their customers to make this work.

Portables=Good form factor.

Even Nintendo, who HATES change(everyone knows this), had to make a physical 'fix' in order to make a difference. I almost never carry my psp with me because of it's weight, size, and fragility when traveling. Then one day I 'woke up'. And, realised that's RIDICULOUS! This is supposed to be a handheld. Something I should be taking with me on trips!

Shortly after this, i imported a Lite. Now, I completely understand Nintendo's dominance in this market. The Lite taught me something very important about handhelds. They should be:

1. Easy to carry.
2. FUN (not necessarily techincally superior, but actually FUN)
3. Have a protected screen.

And last, if you are going to boast that your machine is a multimedia 'powerhouse' then you MUST give the damn thing a HARD DRIVE! Nobody is interested in purchasing a 'new' media to see movies that they can get for free off of the net! Even Apple Ipod makers know this!

They need to stop letting the 50year old 'suits' make the design decisions and start to listening to us.

WE BUY THE GAMES, WE PLAY THE GAMES!
