OpenTTD

Jaime has updated his homebrew game OpenTTD for the PSP to include keyboard support. This version is a preview of what the full release candidate 5 should include, and adds a few new features, including:
  • Key shortcut added for network chat (select + right)
  • Code updated to v0.4.7, compatible with latest version network servers
  • Added keyboard support using PSP OSK
To write text, make sure that the cursor is over a textbox and then press select + Left. It wont work if there is no active textbox/inputbox. Here's what Jamie said: "Currently keyboard support will only work on single player, you can use it on multiplayer, but you will be disconnected from the game, it will be fixed on RC5. Code has been also updated to 0.4.7 to keep compatibility with latest version PC players".

Don't forget to read the included README.txt for installation instructions and list of controls. Also take a look at our FAQ or forums for troubleshooting and more info. The source code will be released with the next release candidate. Although named 'RC5' these downloads are development versions, and don't represent the full quality of RC5.

RCT would be fantastic to see ported. Any coder who did it would receive eternal gratitude from myself and others. Also, anyone fancy porting Sim City 2000? The snes version is a bit lame

About roller coaster tycoon, let me know were is the source code, because i never saw it... Chris Sawyer doesnt use to release source code for his games.

Jordan take a look to the readme, and the announcenment at this url: http://openttd.teamjak.net/, You need some data files from the original game.

Read the readme Jordan. You need original files to play this port.

RCT1 aint open source, nor are any of his other games. OpenTTD is though.
Nice work Jaime. Please add the Danzeff OSK to the next build if possible, it's an awesome OSK.

 » Lost data files

Remember that this game requires some data files from the original TTDX version, if you cannot find your old games cds, you burned them or used them as frisbee for your dog, this url may help you:

http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=3407

Look for ttd-graphics.rar or any windows version containing data files.

 » Buh?

If this is open source, why is it dependent on proprietary files from a commercial game? Seems a little odd to me.

nice work jaime, looking forward to the next release.

It was originally based of a disassembly of the original TTD. Since then, it's probably changed enough to the point where it isn't an illegal clone. From a period of one month to a year from now, there should be a version of OpenTTD with a new graphics engine. Already, all the vehicles have been designed for this graphics engine, only buildings and landscape remains (still a daunting task). Until the new graphics engine has been designed and the graphics released, we must still use the commercial graphics.

 » TWO EBOOTS?

When I tried to extract, the ottd folder had two conflicting eboots. You know then it will ask you to rename one. Anyone else have this same problem?

Ok, that makes sense. I never played the original, but this does look pretty interesting. Any chance that the final version will be playable on 2.6?
