PReSS version 0.1 by The Underminer - Image 1 PReSS version 0.1 by The Underminer - Image 2

PlayStation Portable homebrew developer The Underminer gave us a heads up for a new release, called PReSS. It stands for Portable RSS and it was inspired by Sony's RSS Channel feature that first appeared back in firmware 2.60.

According to The Underminer (known for releases like Galactic Breakout and Special Operations), the RSS Channel was kind of disappointing as it only plays "the audio attachments" instead of a "full-fledged rss-reader." PReSS basically allows users to download RSS feeds and read them at your pleasure. Talk about news on the go, right?

This is PReSS' initial release (version 0.1) but it already has sweet features such as compatibility with all RSS versions (except Atom and RDF), WEP Wi-Fi connection support, built-in catalogues, and topic expiring (meaning old news automatically deleted and you can set the expiration amount). It also sports GIF, PNG, and JPEG support, plus it resizes images to fit the window and it is fully skinnable.

The Underminer had some reminders for users: "I want to stress that the home button should only be used to exit the app in case of a crash; because changes won't be saved. Use select instead."

Anyway, check out the download below. The Readme includes important information so be sure to go through it before anything else.

Download: PReSS v0.1

» 'all RSS versions except Atom and RDF'

means "just RSS."

 » Also

The RSS channel came in 2.80, not 2.60.

Using this application, it crashed 6 times, while trying to update the feeds.. :-/.. should have interface to allow own custom rss feeds that you don't have to suggest on the website.. such as GMail, or your private torrent feeds..

To FreePlay:
Indeed, but by far the most feeds are RSS; or are also available as RSS

To gtxboyracer:
Did you read the read-me?

 » Doesn't work properly

When starting the application and installed as instructed, my PSP reports 'No connections, you must first set up a wireless internet connection in ypur PSP's settings menu' (Typos included)

I have two Access points set up on my PSP, and verified the first one that comes up in the list is the primary one and works just fine. Pressing X as instructed causes a Error ?:0: attempt to call field 'quit' (a nil value) Error: No script file found, press start to restart.

Pressing start returns to the 'No connections'.

I have 3.52 M33-4.

That might be the problem. It could be that the connections aren't recognized properly with this firmware.
I never tested this message; because I didn't want to delete all my connections. I'll fix the typo and the error.

 » for clarity

Supported firmwares:
- 1.00 official
- 3.40 OE-A
- 3.10 OE
- presumably all 3.XX OE firmwares
- M33 only with 1.50 kernel support and only PSP Fat

Unsupported:
- 1.50 official (possible but not released; only upon request)
- 3.52 M33-4

If your firmware is not in the list (2.xx or HX for example)
please send me an e-mail describing your expirience. It would be appreciated. I don't fancy getting tons of spam extra; so check press-psp.com for the address

 » Working

I tried deleting my Connection setting and recreating it, and it worked. Seems to stall out if I have too many feeds, however.

As deerwings corrects himself; this fw apparently is supported
