PS3, PSP - Image 1The holiday season of 2007 has turned out great for Sony's current-generation platforms as the PlayStation Portable and the PlayStation 3 racked up nice sales figures. The Sony PSP sold 1.4 million units, while the Sony PS3 sold 1.2 million in North America.

"The PlayStation brand ended the year in a very strong position and clearly indicates more positive momentum going into 2008," comments Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) President and CEO Jack Tretton. "We are particularly pleased to have sold through 1.2 million units of PS3 during the holiday selling season."

"The strong PS3 sales also further establish Blu-ray’s dominant position as the high-definition medium of choice for games and movies," he adds. "Consumers are clearly responding to the expanding multimedia capabilities and a great line-up of over 200 games."

Both the PSP and the PS3 trailed rival platforms in total units sold throughout 2007, but Sony is optimistic that it will gain even more momentum in 2008 when big games hit. The Sony PSP is waiting for God of War: Chains of Olympus and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, while the Sony PS3 is due to receive Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, and more.

Good to hear. Sony needs to keep it up with the PS3. There has been a steady flow of good games for a while now. There are some great multi-platform as well as exclusives coming soon that should help achieve some good numbers.

2008 will be an interesting year for fanboys. In the meantime, I'll be on Warhawk.

2008 is looking real sweet for Sony. MGS4 is really looking good. Devil May Cry 4 should be the first big one this year. Here's hoping that there won't be too many more delays. I'm real excited about 2008.

Have to wait a week for the offical numbers but 1.2mil would put the PS3 on par with the 360 2006 holiday numbers.

And here is what i read that had the link:

"Its true that the holiday season is the best time for companies. From November 23rd to December 31st, Sony sold 3.9 million PS3's in the North American Region. The PSP also sold 1.4 million in the same time frame as well thanks to the new Stars Wars and Daxter entertainment packs."
