PlayTV - Image 1Along with the three Go! Services announced during the Leipzig Games Convention, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) also announced an exciting new feature for the PlayStation 3: a TV Tuner combined with a Personal Video Recorder. Called PlayTV, the service virtually transforms the PS3 into a game console/TiVo hybrid.

The service will be available in the UK, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain in early 2008. The service will be available to other PAL territories that support Digital Video Broadcasting in the future. PlayTV picks up Terrestrial video format (DVB-T) which is organized with the Electric Programme Guide EPG2.

Aside from being able to play and record High Definition format for the Sony PS3, PlayTV also has tutorial videos and can connect with the PSP to watch Live and recorded TV programs via Wi-Fi. The Programme Guide will also provide numerous information about the programs users watch and record. All these with the ease of use of the controller or the BD remote controller.

sonys fault that the us doesn't have on broadcasting system or whatever

   Re: Ktoso (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28
 » a matter of technology

The reason for playTV not getting to the US is the technology used for broadcasting TV there, the needed tech is beeing used in one city in the USA... It's not woth releaseing it for just one city :~

   Re: VSG (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28
 » not sony fault

actually fact is its the us gamers fault, they gave so little to the ps3 and wants more from it.
europeans gave love to the ps3 so they are gonna be reaping the rewards, they believe in what ps3 can do for them and this is a tip of the iceberg.
ever wonder why japanese get cool things? they support their own product.
and since most americans settle for microsoft brand product such as the live or die 360 then its only appropriate to stick with it. or rather pay for it.
dont worry you will be getting the same service, dead last that is. but you can still change your fate, buy ps3 now, if the ps3 install base becomes bigger on your shores, your territory can be considered to have such ps3 service.

'actually fact is its the us gamers fault, they gave so little to the ps3 and wants more from it.'

If your gonna say gave more to the PS3, it would be North America. We bought the most PS3's and PSP's. Sony is just being really foul to a place that has supported it system the most.

 » Antenna

I don't have Satellite or Cable TV here in the US, I use an Antenna and watch HDTV channels for free. I'm very happy with the few channels I get but the EPG is sweet and I certainly hope we get that service here in the US. We badly need to catch up on the technology. When I was visiting my wife in Germany a few years ago I saw the EPG and DVB-T and was jealous. Not sure what the hold up here it is here in the US, since California is doing it, maybe the rest of the country will catch on.

 » I agree with "VSG"

This is what North America gets for shunning the Playstation in favor of the Xbox. What else do you expect ? I'm North American and I'm ashamed to admit it...

 » I agree

Yep everyone are Micro$oft mummies.

   Re: Apu (Unregistered) - 2007-08-28
 » Baka

Shunning the PS3, we bought the most PS3, its not out fault that gamers prefer to go to Xbox side. If your gonna say anybody shuned the PS3 it would be Japan. Sony is just acting very wrong to its best selling country. That is the only reason why you ( and I) should feel ashamed to be in North America.

Japan 1,010,492 as of July 15, 2007

North America 1,498,500 as of July 23, 2007

PAL territories 1,300,000 as of Aug 23, 2007

Total: 4.28 million as of June 30, 2007[35]

this is retarded. america is where the majority of sony's income comes from. we shud also get this feature or a form of it. yeah suck it uk. america pwns. we'd take down the world if they ganged up against us. thats how we roll!

Sorry but it's just funny. Europe always get screwed and we just keep our chin up and for the first time America gets done over and they kick up a fuss about it. Quality.

This looks pretty cool, problem is my aerial quality is so bad I can't pick up freeview. If they had a scart input on the box for Sky then it'd be the greatest thing ever.

Next year we will get the games but we wont be able to get that bad ass feature until like 2008 (at best) to 2010 (when Sony will be approaching their next console.)

 » good move by Sony

europeens are more dedicated to Sony than in North America ...so when theyve heard were having the Ps3 first it was a slap to there face now its only rigth that they get it first....im totaly with it...

   Re: Apu (Unregistered) - 2007-08-29
 » Question

Why do 'you people' keep thinking that Europe is more dedicated to Sony than North America, facts are that people dedicated to PS3 more than any other country that the PS3 has been sold in. Now it was smart for Sony to put this in Europe because there is a huge market that NO company is taking advantage of. And could you people please get this right:

JAPAN GETS EVERYTHING FIRST THAN NORTH AMERICA THEN EUROPE, if you have someone to complain to then complain about Japan.

But personally IMO, this should have gone to all PS3, all they would of had to was make avalialbe thru the web or make it built into the Tuner.
