PSP FW 3.0

For today! We just got word from badrix that the Playstation Portable 3.00 Firmware Manual has been posted up on Sony's site. The manual details some of the mundane details for your typical firmware update, however there are a few hot topics in there which demand attention. I'll tell you right off that there was no information in their updated manual regarding the PSP supporting homebrew with firmware 3.00, and this was a rather large disappointment. On the other hand, the few additions that were made were helpful, one might even say overdue, but these added pleasures were still bitter sweet.

network Remote Play - Remote play is a new feature in Firmware 3.00 that allows you to remotely control your PlayStation 3 from your PSP. This also includes the display of PS3 content on the PSP. "You can display a PLAYSTATION®3 system screen on a PSP™ system and play content that is on the PS3™ system. To use this feature, you must adjust the necessary settings on the PSP™ system and the PS3™ system." Using this new mode of playback, one can control the Photo, Music, Video, and Internet Browser features of the PlayStation 3 from a remote location via their Playstation Portable.

video Video Compatibility - In this updated version of the Playstation Portable firmware, you are also able to play a few new video formats. The Motion JPEG format (M-JPEG), is an "informal name for multimedia formats where each video frame or interlaced field of a digital video sequence is separately compressed as a JPEG image" (Wikipedia). The PlayStation Portable plays both the Linear PCM and the μ-Law versions of the Motion JPEG video format. In addition, you will now be able to access the Camera (functionality) from the photo option menus, for quicker easier access when taking photos or video. Another nifty function is the ability to finally turn off Auto Play for inserted UMD Discs via UMD Auto Boot. (Thanks zerojay)

PS1Games PlayStation Games - Here's the big tip you've been waiting for. Finally, Sony is going to drop their highly anticipated PlayStation One emulator onto the PSP. From the manual however, there seems to be a unavoidable catch. If you don't have a PS3, your not going to be enjoying PlayStation One games emulating on Sony's PlayStation One emulator for PSP anytime soon. From the manual it states that you must connect to the Playstation Online store with your PSP connected to the PlayStation 3 in order to download and play the games. In addition, they mention that you can in fact share the games, but you must activate the other system in the Friends menu as a PS3 Network Account.

Now to top it all off right before posting this, I came across a tip submitted by Jordan. Which led me to a post made by 0okm and from the looks of things, it would appear the PlayStation Portable 3.00 Firmware will be out soon - as soon as Today! just a few days, on November 22 to be exact, according to Sony Asia's Managing Director Tetsuhiko Yasuda. Remember, Sony didn't mention anything about homebrew this time around either, so make sure you are aware that the current methods for playing unofficial games will probably not work. No matter the consequences it would appear that if your looking to get into some PlayStation One gaming on the PSP, for now, you know what you gotta do...

Update: Just got wind that PSP 3.00 Firmware is out now! We have obtained the file and are uploading it as you read. If you were thinking about updating, check your network settings, reports have come in it is up and ready via network update as well. With the Japanese 3.00 firmware update finally out on the net, we can only assume it will appear in stores on the shelf very soon as well.

 » lol, this is funny.

Yah so sony wants you to upgrade to 3.0 while they still don't *****ing support avi nor mpeg video. They also want you to buy the location free player and or the ps3 in order to acess the cool features!? Thank god we have homebew and talented people who actually know what the psp needs. Damn you sony, damn you.

 » thats wut im saying

i swear... sony likes to screw people in the ass very hard. i for one arent buying either the locationfree tv player sh*t or the ps fuc*in 3 b/c i think thyer both crappy b*tch inventions. I aint tryna spend $800+ to use the rest of the gud features on my psp.
looking on sony's side tho... the reason why they want us to get our psp games like this is b/c they done want any pyracy adn making u spend an extra $600+ to play their ps1 games is what they want us to do in order to "fix this" problem. well u kno what... take ur $600+ ps3, put it up ur ass and have sun hardcore anal with it.I NOT UPDATING CUZ I CANT PLAY ANY PS1 FU*KIN GAMES
if sony were really smart, theyd lmake the ps1 emu delete a necessary file if it was used with an illegal copy of a ps1 game.... but noo. SONY FU8KIN SUX ON BIG COX SO THEY DONT THINK OF SH1T LIKE THIS.

If someone downloaded the ps1 games on his stick can't they share it on the internet? Or is it protected with that registry on the ps3?

And does it have any purpose if you upgrade a 2.82 to 3 if you aren't going to buy a ps3?

Sony has added visualizations to the music player, more options for the RSS feed (such as what time to attempt to download podcasts at), remote play options (including how responsive the buttons will be - higher responsiveness, slower screen updates) and Playstation Network downloads (PS1 games).

YOU GUYS

THIS IS THE FABLED 3.0 FIRMWARE

WE HAVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARDS TO THIS SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THIS YEAR!!

SO MANY PROMISES...

SO MANY SPECULATIONS...

SO MANY EXPECTATIONS...

all rippd to shreads.

everything that we've been hearing about these past months.. none of it is in the firmware at all.

all this 3.0 firmware is is a few small updates to the video.. and new options with the PS3.

we all thought this firmware would be revolutionary.

in my opinion, its worse than the 2.7 update.

at least that gave us something totally new- demos.

a dissappointment.

   Re: Jin (Unregistered) - 2006-11-20
» For the people telling everyone to stop Sony bashing...

Shut up. Just shut up. Yes, they gave us the PSP, and with that makes much more reason to hate them because of everything they're trying to do with it. They try so hard to just make money they forget what the costumer actually wants, or gives a ***** about. Do I really want to pay 600 dollars to play PS1 games on my PSP? No. I may have CSO files, but if they actually let you buy PSX games, I would. The updates for the PSP can suck it. The PSX Emulator that you need a PS3 for can suck it. They are trying WAY to hard. PSP is fun because of emulators, because of the ***** we can do to it thanks to hackers, not because of Sony. So yes, I am a fan of the PSP, but if Sony was one person, I'd want to punch him.

   Re: GameLordOmega - 2006-11-21
 » Agreed.

Heck, I won't spend that much for a PS3 just so I can play new games I haven't even heard about, and put PS1 games on my PSP. It's less expensive to just go on ebay and look for a PS1 itself.

» most of you people are noobs ya know?

if this is the first you've read about the PSone "emulator" (its not really an emulator, just gives the PSP the ability to play the new eboots that are the games) then you need to do some research (http://www.qj.net/You-won-t-need-a-PS3-to-grab-PS1-games/pg/49/aid/70093) and if it isn't....you need to do some research anyway, cause you have short-term memory. The only way to obtain the PSone games RIGHT NOW might be with the PS3, or who knows the website the article (above) talks about could open the 22nd. The fact of the matter is YOU DONT KNOE SH*T ABOUT ANY OF THIS! We WILL be able to download them without the PS3 in time, untill then chill....

Playstation, a popular gaming system ? Come on, 300€ (psp+1 game) plus about 700€ (PS3+all necessary crap)= 1 entire month wage. Why the hell pay same price as if I bought another PC ? Last one, how many kids can afford to give so much money just to buy the gaming system ?
No wonder why and how fast you're loosing people support, you stupid money freaks. Also thanks to next-gen retard gamers, most of games nowadays have crappy gameplay, no background, few personnality and only fancy graphics.

Re: Kichigai Mentat (Unregistered) - 2006-11-21
 » Interesting Point

You bring up an interesting point. %u20AC1,000 is about 1283.10, USD. That'll buy you a nice chunk of computing power. That's close to about what you'd pay for a PS3 and a PSP, plus a game for each. How about this: Pentium 3, 500 MHz with Linux, and an nVidia Riva TNT2 (32 MB RAM) should run around $200, $300 ballpark (About %u20AC233, give or take) and with ePSXe, you can emulate your existing PlayStation games (and your backup ISOs, because I know I'm sure as hell not risking scratching my Final Fantasy Tactics or Valkyrie Profile!) at 1024x768, minimum of 30 FPS with texture filtering. Throw in maybe $30 more for a decent controller ($40 if you want the XBox 360 controller, which really is quite nice on a PC/Mac) and you've got a good emulation machine. If you're willing to throw down a little more, you can probably get a laptop. It's significantly larger, and has less battery life, but it sure costs less than Sony's way of doing things.

Nor my friends or me are stupid enough to buy a 700$ console + 5$ each time we want to play again games we own for years and have already paid 40$ each. Even if PS3 is not necessary, I don't agree. What about sending back original PS1 games to Sony and have them for 'free' ? Of course not, heh. That's the deal with videogames since the first Playstation: play with the same games again and again with only graphics updated. Only tards and kids are seem not to be aware of that, but it also seem there are many.

Another bad business move.

Here's my prediction.

Sony will take so long to implement downloading games onto your PSP without the use of a PS3, that someone else will figure out how to distribute the games, and since the only way most people will then have of obtaining the games will be through piracy, Sony will in essence have promoted piracy. HAHAHA

well first off, Snarg your prediction makes sense, however LOL, the first replier to Snarg's post, are you dumm??? seriously, you must not know what piracy is; it's the use of copyrighted materials, so basically Snarg said that it will promote us to pirate. So why would we sue Sony??? Let me guess, so when we sue, then the court can slap us with a huge fine for illegal theft of patented material right. Stay in school people, seriously.......1

   Re: jrfhoutx - 2006-11-21
 » not really...

actually that's not the definition of 'double jeapordy' and technically speaking you don't already own THOSE games, you own PS1 games in PS1 media format, these are PS1 games REformatted for the PSP, so technically not the same game. Now since the PS1 games for PSP have to be slightly redesigned and reprogrammed (you know, the whole 'lack of a second analog and lack of a second set of shoulder buttons' thing) they are not the same game, kinda like in that I own the US Final Fantasys when they were on Nintendo (pre ps1), but when the compilation came out reformatted for PS I didn't just get a copy cause I already owned them on another platform, I had to buy it if I wanted it... Do you seriously think Sony would spend the time and money to reprogram games that are ten years old and then NOT charge you for them? and how would you propose that your copies of PS1 games be converted so that you could play them on your PSP? get real people, if you're willing to pay for it then go ahead, if you're not willing to pay five bucks for a ten year old game then don't and quit complaining.

   Re: p0stal_sean (Unregistered) - 2006-11-22
 » sooo

if they took windows media off the market and all my songs r on my ocmputer in wma format id halfta rebuy threm in say mp3 format and it wouldnt be the same. besides i didnt say nuthin about them not halfting to resell them for money but its simple enough to convert the iso to eboot format and change the l2 anbd r2 to be used through the analog. not saying sony souldnt be alowed to resell there games but seriously they need to give up0 this grudge against homebrew, and dont pin piracy with homebrew i dont evin play most of the psp games i own if it wasnt for nintendo id probly have broke the thing already. and hey my idea might be dumb but *****off its my dum idea to express as i please, 5 amendment if u dont like it 2 bad
