Datel's Lite Blue Tool for your PSP 3000 hacking needs - Image 1Could it be? Could the PSP 3000 be finally and truly hacked? MaxConsole answers that to the affirmative, describing Sony's (previously) impenetrable security fortress for the newest PSP model to be "now perfectly hackable".

The breakthrough was made by Datel (*gasp*), thanks to their newest tool battery that will put the PSP 3K into service mode. Okay, what does this exactly do? According to their post, service mode allows you to downgrade your PSP for you to do whatever you may want to do with it, basically.

So. Here's the deal. In order for you to enable the service mode on your PSP 2K and 3K models, you'll need Datel's new crypto processor based battery called the Lite blue Tool battery.

*Advert flash* But wait! There's more! It comes with toggle options between a service mode and normal mode, as well as a built in LED power gauge feature! Datel's Lite Blue Tool comes to your nearest store on November 28th for a mere US$ 19.99 (UK) and US$ 29.99 (NA).

Great! Security down, scan lines to go.

Huge thanks to tipster Vexor!

They found a hardware solution. It IS great, but as far as we know DA works on software solution, which, in this case, seems to be harder.

 » Giant step forward but

We still need an IPL. The battery wont do anything on it's own.

   Re: doubleaa25 - 2008-11-18
 » IPL Issue Solved

Well, supposedly the issue would have been solved if you installed the 5.00 M33 Mod for DCv7. A PSP-3000 cannot have 4.01 M33 on it, so that is probably what is going to be used for it.

   Re: FreePlay - 2008-11-18
 » No.

Absolutely not. We need to solve the ***PRE***-IPL problem caused by the new SYSCON chip. Until then, we can't run anything in service mode. Same reason the TA-088v3 doesn't work.

   Re: spankmaster - 2008-11-18
 » at FreePlay....

the problem was getting into service mode all together. the new syscon cpu stop it from entering service mode without a specific code or set of data and this apparently fixes. if its in service mode we can run the ipl for the memory stick and at that point we're free to flash whatever we want.

   Re: Torch - 2008-11-18
 » @spankmaster

Its apparent that just came right out of your ass, and your a noob.

   Re: spankmaster - 2008-11-18
 » uhhh..

@ torch
There was an article right here on QJ with a chart and everything and it was DaX talking out why the new psp wouldnt boot the battery and he said himself that there was some 64 bytes of data or something like that that was needed that he couldnt figure out that was needed to boot. I obviously dont know 100% about the specifics but the problem was the fact the cpu was offering a protection for booting the ipl from the memory stick and this very evidently fixes this.

 » Datel's History

Datel used to be an awesome reverse engineering of sort company until recently they stole some work of others. God knows what's the truth behind it. Anyway, it's either their back or they hired Dax for a big whooping contractual amount of money and a team of reverse engineers I guess. So it's good news if it's true and plausible. We'll just wait and see by then. If it works, I'm gonna get that PSP-3000 and I don't care about the interlacing-scanlines issues. Heck, I've got both phat and slim. OK the phat is mine and the slim was for my younger brother. haha. I just freckin' wish sony won't release another "version/model" of PSP like PSP-4000 or PSP-xxxx something.

I wonder if it has a special serial on the eeprom. if so, perhaps someone can dump it, and we can flash our old phat batteries with the new serial and whatnot.

   Re: FreePlay - 2008-11-18
 » No.

The new battery has a cryptographic chip in it.
   by FlagBearer - 2008-11-18
 » Wait....

So, this is just a modified tool battery? How, exactly, does it get past the encryption, without being certified?

And BTW, don't you need software on a memory stick for it to work? Or will it work with DDC 7? How would it, since 4.01 M33 doesn't contain the 3000 .prx's? Does it come with their own custom software?

Is this gonna be able to hack TA-088v3? That also had some kind of pre-ipl encryption thing...

» Donate a Datel Service Mode PSP Battery to Dark AleX, problem (almost solved)

Datel should definitely provide one this new Service Mode PSP Battery to Dark-Alex so that he can work on an M33 firmware compatible with the PSP 3000.

Heck, he might even release a new version of Despertar Del Cementerio (DC8) that will work for the PSP 3000, now that a Service Mode Battery is available.

okay, do you happen to have DAX's address?
   by kupomogli - 2008-11-18
 » Lawsuit against Datel anyone?

With the original tool battery it was just Datel stealing an idea, now that they're selling this tool as a service tool to allow you to downgrade and do whatever you want with the new PSP.

Is it possible that Sony can sue Datel for hacking their system and selling off their technology basically?

   Re: FreePlay - 2008-11-18
 » Probably

Considering that it's reverse engineering, they could probably pull a DMCA claim if nothing else.

That aside, the fact that they're lying is a big deal. In the original Maxconsole post (btw, Maxconsole is pretty much OWNED by Datel), they say you can use this to downgrade a PSP3000 and run homebrew on it. That's a lie, and it's false advertising, and it could be a lawsuit!

   Re: LordRussell - 2008-11-20
 » Probably 2.0...

From a legal standpoint, unless you are selling a Sony product as your own, it IS legal to 'work' on your own belongings. The only ramifications would be that you forfeit the warranty or any repairs that you send to them (even if you were paying outright for the repair). The process by which you 'discover' a 'tool' to work on your particular device can be wiped away as mere coincidence. Even with the techniques and tools that we use right now are probably NOT an exact duplicate of Sony's proprietary tools that their technicians use.

On a modding website I go to, there's a battery called "The Hybrid". It wasn't made by Datel, yet it had the same concept. (For Slim, at least.) It even has the same exact design as that one! ... Just white.
