Screenshot of PSP System Information screen using custom firmware 3.95 - Image 1

With the release of the official 3.95 PSP firmware, it was only a matter a time before the PlayStation Portable homebrew community followed suite. It was recently announced that custom firmware 3.95 is currently undergoing its test phase, with an official release to follow soon.

For most of the part, the new custom firmware was reverse engineered from Team M33's work (or at least the 3.93 parts). The team's "fetish programmer"" then coded in the rest of the 3.95 portions into the CFW based on this. On the down side, CFW 3.95 will not support Popsloader since this is an exclusive plug-in from Dark AleX and the current developer has no plans of using it at this time.

Anyway, here are the details of what the next custom firmware will contain since our coverage of the previously released custom firmware 3.93:
  • Launch ISO / homebrew 3.xx
  • Adding a name to differentiate firmware for PSP to 3.95 standard ones FC (general request in the forums).
  • POPS 3.95
  • IRShell functional functional except ISO Launch
  • PSP 5.0 Filer functional
  • Plug-in Capture.prx tested ok
  • Plug-in cwcheat.prx tested ok
  • Plug-in Recovery LE (Ketchup) and tested ok (except for displaying the version number blocked on 3.90M33 - Update plug-in planned)
  • The USB Host is always buggy but works perfectly with a small tip.
  • The recovery is still accessible directly via the XMB with the L key
  • CXMB does not currently works but we updating the plug-in is underway (just a problem of addresses to settle)
  • Popsloader not working. Only Dark_Alex can update its plug-in. Is not planned at this time.
  • Taking screenshots should be added. Still under discussion.
When exactly will the new custom firmware 3.95 come out? To quote the source site: "no release date has yet been set." Their main goal right now is to address all the major bugs before its projected release for this weekend. In the meantime, stay tuned for more updates regarding the upcoming CFW from MaGiXieN.

Thanks to MaGiXieN for the hot tip!

 » no popsloader support? meh

i don't even see the point of this psp cfw if you can't even run popsloader on it.

   Re: Advertising - 2008-05-13
 » I think..

You are mistaking "popsloader" with "pops". This firmware DOES support "pops" which gives the ability to run PS1 PBPs (converted PS1 games). "Popsloader" is the plugin that DaX made, that's why it's not even surprising it doesn't work on this FW.
Note that there have been a number of "Popsloader" releases for the different firmwares. Even when Dax made the firmware, broken a "popsloader" plugin was not rare.
So YES there is a point to having a custom firmware without "popsloader" (as long as it has "pops" support).
Also for all the flamers below me. The author of this firmware is updating it because he WANTS and also to prove (most likely to himself) that he CAN and is willing to spend time to learn and improve his coding avilites.

-Peace out

 » No

I don't think he's confusing anything. He's right if it doesn't support popsloader that's a huge deal. Many games require a certain version of pops, I bet 3.95 can't even play FF7!

 » Sorry you gotta use...

No you cant you gotta get 1.5 or a cfw first in order to upgrade. I recomend using pandoras battery

   Re: Gh0st_Xer0 - 2008-05-15
 » Gah...Pandora

Yknow, i hate Pandora. Tell me if i'm just confused here, but i saw on Wiki the only non-dangerous way to make a pandoras battery is to have a PSP with homebrew. But wtf, if I HAD a PSP with homebrew, i wouldn't be trying to downgrade my PSP. It's all just one retarded cycle.

   Re: sickofitall - 2008-05-20
 » lol

The point is if you knew someone who had a psp with homebrew, then he could make a pandory battery for you to use.

3.95 is useless. Even if it had full plugin support, it wouldn't be worth the trouble of upgrading.

The End

 » aaa my mind

i will wait for 4.00 from dax. i am sorry these little updates are not worth it. everything i use works on 3.90 m33-3. don't upgrade if everything works just to upgrade.

   Re: fabianv2 - 2008-05-13
 » true

plus it will make it difficult to update to DAX 4.00
if you update to these ones. Maybe?

   Re: xLinkinwormx - 2008-05-13
 » umm

no it wont, thats the thing with CFW you can go from one persons to someone elses i went from 3.93(whoever did it) to 3.90 m33-3.

 » Oh 3.95?! no prob!

i will upgrade to this cfw! im looking forward to it! i will install this to my psp asap! ill post a message again if this cfw works rock solid.

   by ajnauron - 2008-05-13
» The only reason people use these CFWs

is that DAX doesn't have one for the same FW. If he did, nobody would care about these guys.

i think this is good but theres to many negitives in to getting this so i think im just gunna stick with 3.90m33-3

   by NarooN - 2008-05-13
 » I'll Pass, Sorry.

3.95 is pretty useless. All of my PSN games work anyway so I still don't see much point in the cfw for this ver. at all.

   by 3laiwy - 2008-05-14
 » why 3.95??

problem is that they dont understand that we need a popsloader, the only thing that made me upgrade to CFW 3.93 was yellow rains stupid plugin, now i have to wait 4.00 M33

   by Silver-Tiger - 2008-05-14
 » ...

Hey guys, you should give him(or Her? =p) a chance, I think reassigning the buttons for PSone is a good feature.

And if you don't support her or him, we will loose a talented programmer for the PSP, DaX also started with little steps, think about that.

   by Ron Overdrive - 2008-05-14
 » f'n fanboys

The nay sayers really need to learn to shut their traps. What are you going to do WHEN (not if) DaX leaves the scene? Oh wait.. we did that before.. we b*tched and moaned then jumped on the next dev which was M33 before it was revealed it was DaX & Co.

So what if people reverse engineer DaX's code so long as its not just a hex edit? If its a true reversal of his code they're good programmers and the last group that legitimately reversed his code he gave them his praise, good graces, and a copy of the source code to work from (aka Team Wildcard).

Team M33 has been complimenting and praising people like Ketchup and this guy for a job well done. Unless the code proves to be a hex edit don't be sitting there shooting it down because it's not made by DaX.

   by 3laiwy - 2008-05-14
 » @ silver tiger

your right, i think we need more firmware devs. These people are talented, but the problem is that this dev started off at the wrong CFW, he /she shouldve waited to write fw 4.00, but oh anyway good luck :)

   by amdlabs - 2008-05-14
 » I Agree

Hey , people, we need more FW dev's, they keep PSP Alive, please support them. have you ever see a firmware code??? looks like hell.
Keep going , good job, we need you.

 » Confused

I'm a little confused I thought that a lot of the new firmwares like even the official ones were supposed 2 be able 2 play ps-one games? does this mean they can't ??? if they can then y do we need popsloader? I'm one of the guy's who upgrades and naturally assumes the next version will be better. I didn't have a problem until my last upgrade. I'm on 3.90m33-2 . it seems a little slower and made it hard to do a lot of things. my ps-one games stopped working and I was unsuccessful with running popsloader, man I wish I knew how 2 work pop's ( gr8tlegend@yahoo.com- needs tips) I'm also not sure how to downgrade this specific firmware.

   Re: Ron Overdrive - 2008-05-16
 » Re: Confused

This firmware can play PSOne games. The built in emulator is called POPS, POPSLoader is a plugin written by Dark Alex for the OE/M33 firmwares that allows you to choose which version of POPS you want to use in case you have compatibility issues with a game a previous POPS didn't have. No one has really looked at reverse engineering DaX's POPSLoader plugin so this firmware isn't compatible with it.

Also keep in mind that PSOne games on the PSP are considered ISO's and due to QJ's policies no one here can help you with POPS related issues. You'll just have to find another board for that.
   by gr8tlegend - 2008-05-17
 » Thank u

Thank u overdrive, that helped a little bit, but can I ask are the compatibility issues with this firmware? why does everyone say this one sucks it just looks ordinary 2 me nothing special but nothing 2 bad either , I'm mean i can't make my psp any worse seeing as I have some compatibility issues already ...maybe because I tried to run the loader and didn't know what it was? I thought is was an emulator itself. in addition 2 the question I've already asked here is another one is there an easy way 2 reset my pop's back 2 the way it was?

   by pug - 2008-05-17
 » oh men!

guys if you don't wanna say a good things about this cfirmware please dont be so harsh, think that what if someday team m33 and dax stop making a custom firmware, then you force to stop making these developers too because of your non-sense comments. what's gonna happen to our psp,^^,

-peace!!!!
