PSP-Devolution modchip - Image 1

It's taken longer than expected, but the team behind PSP-Devolution, a new modchip for the Sony PSP handheld system, have finally announced a release date. According to PSP-Devolution.com, sales of the PSP-Devolution modchip should commence on April 16.

The delays are apparently due to "some important improvements" that needed to be done in order to ensure top performance from the modchip. The developers of the modchip also say that they have made the PSP-Devolution modchip smaller by using 4 layer technology.

All resellers who have expressed interest in the PSP-Devolution modchip will be informed of the release details via email. New inquiries are also welcome. If you missed our previous post regarding the PSP-Devolution modchip, here's a list of its features:
  • Flash your PSP using the internal USB Port
  • No additional USB Port required
  • Latest ACTEL ProASIC 3 technology
  • Low power consumption
  • Works on all available PSP versions incl. TA-082 and TA-086
  • Custom BIOS with a lot of cool additional features
  • Easy to install
  • Just a bit of soldering skills required, no hardcore installation
Thanks to Rok for the tip!

"Custom BIOS with a lot of cool additional features"
Sounds interesting, even with my PSPs running custom firmwares this might be wort having just for the hell of it.

Hope to hear more info soon :-)

Probably made by the same folks as before, except this time they aren't claiming that it'll be open-source.

 » UP

I have UP so I don't need this.
(Remember they said that the UP installation was easy?)

This is still good for all the people who have ta-082+ mobo's.
I'm hoping they will actually make stuff for this instead of abandoning it right away...

Maybe this will convince the UP people to fix up their software for competition..... :)
I don't really think that will happen, but let's hope UP doesn't turn obsolite.
I'm just hoping dark alex will make more stuff for it like a better flashing program and more custom firmware features for UP.

Heres what i think will happen with this:
-It will still be hard to install, just not as hard as UP.
-It will have basically all the same features as UP.
-It will be more expensive than UP.
-It will actually have some updates.
-It will be more noob-friendly (UP flashing is a pain to do, expecially with that stupid nandimage.flash)

^thats not definate, just what I expect.

 » do i need this

i have a ta-082 running 3.10oe, i can run anything new and anything old(as far as i know), is there any reason i would want this? Maybe it would be easy to mod in future wirthout having to worry about ta-082 issues?

   Re: CanisLupus (Unregistered) - 2007-04-08
 » Brick

If you ever end up bricking your psp you could use this to flash a firmware manualy. Though I'm not sure if that would work or not. I mean, you can access flash0 by usb in recovery but I don't know if you can take a whole flash0 folder of a different firmware and delete everything in your psps flash0 and put that in there, and do the same for flash1 and it work. Never tried it, but I won't risk it.

 » why?

Unless you have a bricked PSP I don't really see the point. Maybe those of you who are so excited about this can explain why?

   Re: psphackman - 2007-04-09
 » Sure

well it's simple
You can flash and flash and NEVER worry about bricking
So i'm going to get one cause when i brick i won't have to wait for it :)

 » reality

the reality of this chip is that does not have a second flash on it so it is not possible to duel boot the psp. second is that it will still be hard to install this chip because of the small traces on the psp but it will be easier than the up. third and the only good news that i have is that it will cost less than the up. last if you just copy your flash0 into a folder and try to replace it it will brick. take it from someone who knows

   Re: j453113 (Unregistered) - 2007-04-09
 » ...

this has the exact same nand space as your current psp has.. the original 32 mb.... so you could call it a second flash... it does the exact same thing that U.P does...
in my opinion, this is great and ill get 1 when i have enough cash

I have had my UP for about 3 months now and am extremely impressed with it.

Once some more custom firmware comes out , it will be better, someone really needs to take advantage of the dual flash (other than DA)

   Re: Jake (Unregistered) - 2007-04-09
 » I agree

I'm with you on that. I still don't see the point in this yet. So far all it seems to do is have a high risk of breaking your PSP and even when you get it right, you can have a custom firmware. Wow. Can't you just get 3.10OE or any other custom firmwares out there?
   by Networkgamer (Unregistered) - 2007-04-09
 » why?

whats the point of a modchip with no built-on flash?

   by BrendanL (Unregistered) - 2007-04-09
 » The modchip...

A lot of you are saying what's the point of haing this modchip when you can have custom firmware. You can't have custom firmware when your PSP is bricked. This works for non-TA's, TA-082's and TA-086.

   Re: Mr. D (Unregistered) - 2007-04-09
 » True

"You can't have custom firmware when your PSP is bricked." True, but most of the time, people get SEMI-bricks(Think "Red Screen Of Death")that can be cured with the DAX recovery modes.

For those of you who are n00bz at soldering should use Wire Glue.

16th came and went, no resellers are even taking preorders let alone selling it, and the only information is a single page website.

The site said it would start sending it to resellers between the 16th and 20th. The site got a little bit of an updates (picture + more text).
