PlayStation Store senior manager Grace Chen posted a demo video of what we can expect from the PSP Store once the PSP firmware 5.00 goes live. It's quick one:

No word yet on when FW 5.00 will go live, but if yesterday's speculation holds true once more, it could roll out maybe this week or the next.

Remember how a PSN EU community leader announced yesterday that PSN (EU) would be down for system maintenance? Assumedly, this system maintenance would herald the launch of the PSP Store (which requires you to upgrade your PSP to FW 5.00).

Grace Chen also confirmed that PSN will be unavailable in North America from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. PST today. Considering how Sony's rolling out press release after press release about their upcoming PSP and PS3 firmwares, it seems as if they're already setting up shop (so to speak) for a go-live date.

Meanwhile, Chen also reaffirmed that the PS3 FW will indeed include Flash Player 9 support, an interesting bit we uncovered earlier.

Thanks to tipster Fadil for the heads up!

The PS3 XMB Doesn't need a redesign animebuster, it already sorted the PSN Icon. Wheres the friends list, why wouldn't they put that it, it's beond me, to be able to contact friends on the go? Who wouldnt want that. GoMessenger sucks and psp phat can't have skype, considering they are tying in the PSN anyway giving direct contact to friends even if only to send and recieve messages without voice is a no brainer. With all variations of PSP's having mic support and headset I also voice chat is still also possible. I don't know, if they are trying to encorporate PSP with the PS3 these are all obvious features if you ask me. Also wirless connection to the PS3 but having to put the USB lead in to send files from one to the other? Whats the deal with that. I don't have to have a lead to move files from my pc but I do to move or add files to my PSP lol. Madness.

It would be kinda hard, since the PSP requires you to manually connect to the internet for each thing, unlike the PS3 which automatically does when it's turned on. Everytime you wanted to see your friends list you would have to connect, imagine how annoying that would be if you were out and lost connection.

GoMessenger doesn't suck. It's useful. I taught my friend in another state how to play his guitar better thru the vid call. Skype sucks, because it doesn't do video calls. get a damn go!cam

Announcing PS3 v2.50 and PSP v5.00 System Software Updates.

The next system software updates for both the PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP will be available tomorrow! Here's a quick rundown of the great new features that we'll be able to enjoy from 15 October 2008:

PSP System Software version 5.00

* Direct PlayStation Store access to the system - PSP owners will be able to download games, demos, trailers, and other game-related content anytime and anywhere that their PSP is connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi - no PC or PS3 required.

* On-screen keyboard – A full-size, on-screen keyboard will be added to make text entry during Web browsing easier and more convenient.

* Sleep timer – During music playback, a sleep timer will enable users to shut off their PSP after a specified amount of time.

* Video-out – The PSP-2000’s video-out feature will be able to display PlayStation format software (classics titles) at the full-screen size of the TV that the PSP is connected to; the feature will also support interlace displays.

PS3 System Software version 2.50

* Improved Official Bluetooth Headset wireless headset support, including an on-screen indicator that shows volume, battery charge, and mute functions.
* Bluetooth Headset Wireless headset High Quality (HQ) mode, which utilises advanced wireless technologies and the headset's dual-microphone design to enable clear and wide-band wireless voice communication with PS3 system.
* An in-game screenshot capture tool - titles that support the feature will be announced in the future.
* PS3 Trophies user interface enhancement - When players acquire a Trophy, the in-game notification will now include the specific Trophy icon created by the developer, while more intuitive options for comparing Trophies with friends have been added, including an icon to represent each Trophy level.
* Video – Video scene search functionality will provide thumbnails to help you find a particular scene in a video more easily.
* Information Board – The Information Board will be able to include direct links to PlayStation Store, making it easier for PS3 owners to download content that they read about on the Information Board.
* Power save – PS3 owners will have the option to automatically shut-off their console or controllers after pre-selected periods of inactivity.
* Flash 9 content becomes supported on the Internet Browser.

The question is, when will DaX follow up on that?

 » no video store?

That's lame, it appears there's no video store on there. It'd be nice to be able to download movie rentals directly on the PSP.

I just hope DaX finds it worth his time to hack :)

 » DivX

I really wish they would add DivX support already, or at least add a converter to the PS3 that lets you convert PS3 videos into PSP videos while copying them to your PSP

Sony should add a music playlist for the PSP, like in Sleep'n'Wake or LiteMP3.
