System Update

Just like Sony promised, the 2.80 Firmware is out! Although not yet listed on all the regional PSP sites, a lot of news tips are coming in that the update is live through the Network Update function in the PSP.

It seems that the Japanese site has already updated their PSP page to reflect the latest firmware download. The US and Euro sites are slower I guess. Courtesy of our resident Blogger/Translator, we now have the official list of updates in the latest firmware. Here they are:

[Network]
  • In [RSS Channel], the download function for animation contents and image contents is now supported.
  • In [Location Free Player], it is now possible to login via wireless LAN access point.

* The details about Location Free Base Station can be found at: http://www.sony.co.jp/locationfree/psp/

[Music]
  • AAC files in ".3gp" extension can now be played.
[Misc]
  • Supporting saving to "MUSIC", "PICTURE" and "VIDEO" folders in "Memory Stick Duo".
  • Adding the next downloadable game demo to the "Memory Stick Duo".
  • "Tama Run" demo version download page (on 18:00 August 31, 2006)

Since their site is getting hammered by all the extra bandwidth, we have mirrored the US, UK, EU, AU/NZ and Japan Update Eboots here. We will also be adding update files for other regions as soon as we can; please bear with us for the meanwhile. You can still upgrade your PSPs using either the US, EU or JP eboots. Thanks to 0okm for finding the links to different updates!

Again another update with no features to actualy make me want to update. When GPS is made available and the PS1 emulator I prob will, but if sony really want to try and get us lot to update they need to add something better. Though I am quite sure they have given up hope of getting people who already know about homebrew to update. I'm sure these updates are for the majority of PSP owners who dont really know about homebrew and will just upgrade giving them no chance of getting into homebrew. Kind of trying to stop more poeple going to homebrew than converting homebrew psp owners back to sony.

Hope booster can get this FW emulated soon

 » Hope Not

I hope that booster don't mess with this tiny update, and make all his efforts to stabilise the 2.71 FW, NoUMD emulation and nand flash emu.

 » RE: 5

Yeah 5, it seems they have given up all hope for us lot. Which is bad for everyone 'cause sony won't be racing to get some spiffy new features into any near-future updates.

3. Download that sh*t (May become corrupt)

[2.7+ users]

» Calm down on the Booster front...

Guys,

It doesn't do any good to keep saying "Oh Booster emulate this soon for me" or "Hurry up I want to use 2.80".

It'll come when it does, and when he wants to, not when you all ask him to. If Sony have learnt they're lesson, and it's a big IF, it may take longer than first thought.

A few nice additions in 2.80, pics in RSS, and saving to most folders is good. But apart from that, nothing major it still seems. It's as if they've just made 3.00, and are slowly releasing bits in between just to kep us "happy".

Oh well, more firmware to toy around with eh! :)

» not that ANYONE will listen to me but..

@ #5 and #12

SONY hasnt in the past even raced homebrew hackers at all. they dont try to entice us with new features AT ALL!!!!

if you read the press release last march they already had all the firmware updates planned. INCLUDING this one! find the article on IGN, im too lazy to find it for you (as you wont even listen to me)

the flash player was already scheduled to come out in spring. it had nothing to do with hackers. and this RSS update was alrady schduled to come in summer 2006.

the ps1 emu and the GPS and camera are coming in october its rumored. on IGN.com they quote Sony saying its coming in fall/winter.

the only exception to this is the X.X1 updates. like 1.51 and 2.01 and 2.71 thos are security fixes, probably some oversight sony wanted to clean up so that legit PSP owners couldnt brick thier PSP with malicious homebrew.

» Should be a warning on this news for n00bs to not update

Come on QJ, u know the average IQ for new users is low, should've put a warning on the post about not updating if u want to keep homebrew.

 » EBOOTS are identical

Both the US and UK EBOOTS are identical (ie. the SAME file), so it doesn't matter which you download as the firmware is not regeion specific.

 » @24

And what about 1.52???
Are you saying there was security fixes in 1.5 which they solved in 1.51 (kxploit) and then there was a bug in 1.51 so they fixed it in 1.52? And the same in 2.7?
Well that sounds cooool...
