Sony has announced that a new PSP firmware update version 6.10 will be released very shortly. According to Eric Lempell, PlayStation Network Operations, this is a big update in preparation for the launch of PSP Go. All PSP Go owners are advised to download the update to ensure full compatibility with MediaGo and with all PSP titles.

Probably a new game encryption for the YOSHI decrypto.

That can't be it. They don't release a firmware a single day after something happens in the pirate scene. Sony has to take time bugtest the firmware, they wouldn't release it so soon as a response.

They may have already prepared for the worst (DECRYPTION) and prepared this firmware. Sony has been chugging out firmwares quickly lately.

No, this is a rather minor update. Just a few small things added. Don't expect any new cfw anytime soon.

This is not like adding more colors or fixing bugs, this is adding a new section to the music menu, plus more to be found out, so this is 1 of those major updates like skype

I hate to laugh, but it kinda seems hilarious how a few weeks ago we were all bickering like little internet kids over the 6.00 CFW (me included), and now Sony's released a new one and makes any development on said CFW virtually pointless. (Even you, Erique, have to laugh with me on that!) I can kinda see why DAX doesn't release so frequently any more due to Sony shoveling out firmwares to patch exploits. If he did, then one could argue him only supporting piracy. In fact, if your right, Elric, that DAX has quit, (I'll believe it when I see it, though I highly doubt that you're incorrect on that) then I wouldn't doubt that he would do so because A.) he hates indirectly supporting Piracy, and B.) He wants to pass the torch on.
Heck, I don't pirate games (Though I was tempted when RBU was leaked; I resisted and just bought it last weekend), but LOVE the simplicity that is homebrew. The ability to play my entire library of classic games that I OWN myself on one handheld is a blast! True, 5.50 GEN is no where near the quality of M33 5.00, feature and bug-wise (when are we getting a 1.50 patch BTW?!?!?!) but I can safely confirm that as of this writing, the PS Store runs perfectly on 5.50B2 GEN Firmware (though Mini's require 6.00 Firmware, and I didn't buy anything; a college guy's gotta have a budget...). All I hope is that someone actually RELEASES a CFW that'll be compatible with LBP-PSP, as I refuse to loose my ability to have my entire UMD Library of MY games for just one game (even though last years rumors of said game was what convinced me to finally pick up a 1000)

i have to agree with enrique in saying this is a pretty big update. maybe not big, but very cool in my opinion. most of it is PC based but i would still love to get my hands on a CFW of this.

The PSP just has crappy speakers. You can use the volume boost function in LightMP3, but it sounds horrible. They're not made to go that loud. They should use whatever my cell phone uses lol. They're definitely small but VERY loud.

theres little bits of plastic over the speakers, you can pop them to make it louder... it could effect the sound quality though.
I wouldnt do it personaly but then my psp is only really used as a memory stick reader, even then only when my camera's battery is dead..

What bits of plastic? There is none. Unless you're talking about the faceplate itself? Certainly won't be cutting that up. Have you ever even taken apart a PSP before? I think a more realistic problem is that half of the speakers are covered by the LCD. Also, the holes in the faceplate are not placed directly over the speakers. I believe the speakers were just poorly placed into the design of the PSP.

I agree. That's cool. I do this with my cell phone and laptop sometimes.
DS3 Supprt, tethering, PS3 connectivity, and most important A2DP support start to make the PSP BT support compelling.

Have you even tried it? I quite like the recovery menu and it's not all bad. Loyalty to just the m33 name is kind of retarded, why not try GEN out?
Besides, I'm playing Disgaea 2 and Gran Turismo on my PSP right now... can m33 do that? ;)

I upgraded to 5.50GEN-B2 and it's pretty nice. Doesn't seem to have that many bugs, at least. Only thing I miss is the option to speed up memstick access (it's a bit noticeable).

» What the heck is wrong with GEN CFW anyways?
I had to install the GEN CFW in my PSP because I just had to play Gundam Senjou no Kizuna. Was wondering why there're a lot of people who throw flames at that CFW. Still wishing that they release a new CFW now.

No 1.5 kernel support, that's what.
In other words, the only remaining advantage of the PSP-1000 goes poof.

What homebrew do you have that uses 1.5 kernel, hmm? Also not the only remaining "advantage" (not really an advantage), there is also the IR port.

» Interesting...
After updating to 6.10 and installing the SensMe application and then uploading a couple playlists from MediaGo, I browsed my way through the folder structure on my MemoryStick.
Seems The playlists don't go into MUSIC, but rather PSPPLAYLISTMUSIC with extension ".m3u8". I'm not fully familiar with the syntax for that format, but it looks straight forward enough when looking at the playlist files in PSPad. Should be easy enough for 3rd party programs to adapt and stuff playlists there when uploading to PSPs.
Also, the SensMe application was installed into PSPAPPNPIA00013. I wonder if this is a possible exploit (or intentional gateway) for home-brew (or official and/or optional) applications/utilities? SensMe loads just like a game so you get the standard delays of loading and quitting unlike using the built-in music player. Makes sense tho, given the extra complexity (and graphics) of the SensMe interface. ("SensMe Channels"? Wonder how many Ninty Fan Bois will claim Sony is "stealing" from Wii...)

"PSPPLAYLISTMUSIC" should be "/PSP/PLAYLIST/MUSIC". "PSPAPPNPIA00013" should be "/PSP/APP/NPIA00013"

The m3u8 playlists can be opened with wordpad, entries per line like:
"MusicMegadethGreatest Hits Back To The Start Hangar 18.mp3"
will add them to that playlist.
winamp-native playlist format, btw.
