Toggle USB Flash2/3 - Image 1

From the same PSP homebrew developer who brought us Custom Firmware 1.62 IE-D, comes Toggle USB Flash2/3 special system. The brains behind this, becus25, mentioned that "with this tool you can access via usb the Flash2 or 3 drive of PSP". Aside from that, you could also have access to the drive on read/write files mode and you could use this to toggle the memory stick.

The homebrew application does not come with a readme, but installation and usage is simple enough. To install, all you have to do is copy the files to the PSP Game (Game150 if you're using Custom firmwares) folder. As for the usage, here goes:

  • Press X to toggle USB (flash 2)
  • Press O to toggle USB (flash 3)
  • Press square to toggle USB (memory stick)
We hope to hear from becus25 in the coming days, and hopefully, he would make the necessary improvements on this homebrew application. Here's the download link, folks! To know more about becus25's PSP projects, head on over to his site by clicking on our source link below.

omm ok am i the only one wondering what the ***** flash 2 and 3 are? i mean as far as i knew there was only flash 0 and 1 where did 2 and 3 come from and what do they do/controll

 » Flash 2

Flash 2 is apparently involved on OFFICIAL PS1 emulation. There is a firmware file that when decrypted points to F2. Nothing that really on the interest of Custom firmwares. Don't know about flash 3. As far as I know not even Sony might be using it as of now.

what use is this?

   Re: ... (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31

Maybe use, say: Flash3 to put back location free player and/or redirect some other PRXs here, if needed in the furure of OE.

   Re: mohaas05 (Unregistered) - 2007-05-31
 » somewhat explanation

flash2 contains half of the encryption for psx games in firmware 3.00 and above. The other half is in flash0. Noones still sure what the original purpose of flash2 and 3 are. but since they're each about 1mb in size, now we can redirect things such as gameboots to them.

Thx for the explanation. Yeah that was what I meant, I read some about it at DC emu. I am guessing this is why devhook failed to load PS store games. It still lacks the function to emulate this flash partitions.

Your a little slow there on the 32gb stick spouting... that was so 5 months ago. Besides thats not what this does so your way off.

   Re: DJ (Unregistered) - 2007-06-01
 » i know...

but what do u mean that im slow? Did i miss something? cuz i read every article unless it is not related to homebrew or some important game. Last i heard was that the mem stick duo has a theoretically maximum capcity of 32 GB. Am i wrong?

I believe one of the flashes is used for copying game saves from one memory stick to another. This ability has been around since 1.5 at least. Not sure about 1.0 though.

nah, this use the RAM, flash3 may be used for "futures improvement" (i hope we can use that one to make sone space on flash0 or for next CF in near future...)

I think flash2 and 3 are the memory of the psp (not sure). Can anyone check this? the psp got 32MB main memory and 4 mb memory for the VGA.

Flash0 is system resources (what's needed for it to run). Flash1 is personal settings (Internet connections, PSP name, background, etc.). Flash2 is RAM. Flash3 is IPL.

   Re: DJ (Unregistered) - 2007-06-01
 » totally agree with flash0 and F1...

but im still not sure about the F2 and F3 though.

   Re: DJ (Unregistered) - 2007-06-01
 » wait...

i think that flash1 was ram. You cant have F2 as ram otherwise you could actually "Flash" things to it. Unless, flash2 really is ram. Im so damn confused. COME on becus25! what is it?!

Re: Mr. D Of Sweden (Unregistered) - 2007-06-01
 » Yeah right.

The PSP's RAM is 8MB, flash2 is somewhere around 1MB. Read, dammit.

it may be wise not to mess with this... let's let the devs figure it out, first. (stating the obvious)

flash2 actually contains the DRM for PS1 emulation

   by Travisweet3 - 2007-05-31
 » Is it possible

Is it possible that either the flash 2 or 3 is used for the cache in the web browser? I think that if someone could reroute the web browswers cache to the memory stick and enlarge the cache file size limit it would be pretty cool. My browser is constantly running out of memory. And is it normal that both my flash 2 and 3 are empty?

Ok, if flash 0 is for the psp os, and flash 1 is for the internet settings and all that. Flash 2 is the ram and messing with that is a big no no. Then again think about it. Since when is flash used as ram? If it's anything like on a pocket pc or on a standard computer it's only using that as an extremely temporary storage space.

For instance, if like a pocket pc, flash 2 will only save whatever is in it until the system is reset. If it is like in a standard pc, it'll only keep whatever is in there till the system is done using it. If it is genuine flash, it is not ram, but storage space. My guess is when you update, it needs to use flash 2 and/or 3 as a temp folder of sorts to put the files in while extracting others and placing files wherever appropriate.

I'd like to see someone going old, old, incredibly old school on this and hooking up a floppy drive to it just for the hell of it. Go Tandy!! *seriously thinks about suicide after the last statement*

   Re: DJ (Unregistered) - 2007-06-01
» now that you mention RAM...

didnt filer use the ram to move files? BTW ram doesnt harm the psp. It is random access memory. It is rewritable.

   Re: conzie (Unregistered) - 2007-06-01
» flash was used as ram since

windows vista came outm (ready boost)
