PspKanji - Image 1 PspKanji - Image 2

Due to a very annoying bug in the app, it took Sammy Fatnassi quite a while to update his homebrew app for the PSP called PSP Kanji. And just in case you weren't able to catch the v1.0 release, here's a quick primer: PspKanji is a Kanji-learning software for the PSP which will teach you basic Kanji, Hirigana, and Katakana.

You'll be able to create Kanji/Hirigana/Katakana lists as well as practice the proper pronunciation for the words. It'll also test your Japanese knowledge via the flashcard quizzes, which will ask you to translate English words to Japanese. And like Fan's Japanese Dictionary, Sammy's PspKanji can also be used as a Kanji dictionary of sorts.

So anyway, Sammy wants to give a shout out to the following people for helping him out with this app: The Ps2dev for the cooperation and support one find therein, Tyranid for PspLink, James Breen, for the Kanji dictionary compilation (KanjiDic) and for making this software possible. We here at QJ should probably start learning some Japanese ourselves, it'll definitely help us understand those scans we feature every now and then, eh?

Oh, and I almost forgot, for installation instructions, version history, and other important whatnots, click on the read link below. And as always, check out the all-important readme file for anything else you'd want/need to know. That said, go on and...

Irony, polite form gets censored XD

 » yea

just put it in the GAME150 folder and it should work. U don't need to change the kernel to 1.5 if its in GAME150 despite what some people may think

» sSmall bug but great product

Greak software, and its not random hiragana its basic ones, the tables also help alot if its been a while you havent brushed up!! But its true it seems to crap out on second load, worked fine first time i loaded it under game150 3.02b but second time arround i get a double image with blury fonts. Have to reisntall it each time to fix the problem... some sort of bug apparently.

 » Found the problem

Well i used pspgo to reorder the icons and hide the corrupted icon... for some reason this did not work very well with this software and it corrupted the fonts. Seems to work fine now, just have a corrupted icon on the top of the list, oh well :)! Great soft tho!!

 » Will fix this

I'll have to look up this problem people are experiencing and to fix it...

I'm running it on my 3.02oe without mishap myself. :/

 » Best app ever!!

I was looking for an update since ages, but now i haven't got a PSP anymore T_T

   by frwololo (Unregistered) - 2007-01-22
 » great!

This is actually the kind of App I was looking for recently ! I'm gonna try it in the train today !
Do you plan to make it open source ? It could be used as a dictionnary as well. Entering the number of strokes and such would display the matching kanjis... (I'm not sure Jim Breene's files have the number of strokes information, but I would tend to say... yes)

This is a great little app. Been waiting to see something like this since I am too lazy to learn how to program for the PSP and do it myself ;)

The interface is slick *and* it's a good review tool. Awesome!

ずっと待ってた。 どうも。

 » Great stuff.

This is a great app and what makes the homebrew community great. For those having problems with display try shutting off your PSP and turning it back on. Those that changed the 1.5 directory restarted their psps to do it and thats why they thought it worked.
