FreePlay has come up with an installer that experienced PSP users might want to try. It's called the PSP Slim Firmware 3.60 Installer, and as the name states, it'll revert your PSP Slim's firmware to 3.60. That is, of course, if you understand how to use it.

You see, FreePlay made this app specifically for PSP experts who know the ins and outs of the system. The setup required to perform the 3.60 installation isn't easy, and FreePlay purposely made the readme hard for newbies because the firmware installation requires you to flash an entire firmware to get the job done.

If you're still with us though, and you want to install firmware 3.60 on your PSP Slim for whatever reason, then feel free to download the application and try it out. The extensive readme, which you should definitely consult, is included in the download, and we also have a video of the installation process in action below. Good luck!

Thanks to Seanpaul223 for the tip!

*UPDATE* FreePlay has released a new version of the PSP Slim firmware 3.60 installer that includes fixed instructions as well as an updated program. Here's an explanation straight from FreePlay:

The previous instructions were a bit off. They didn't take into account that the IPL taken straight from a NAND dump would contain 16 spare bytes after every 512 bytes, so I wrote a program that strips those bytes out. The fixed instructions and the program are attached here.

Remember to check out the readme included in the download before you install.

 » Pandoras battery?

i wouldnt insult freePlay by sayin it was pointless as Syntax Terror did.
but why go the long way round the block when theres an avenue going straight thru.
im only sayin cos when i got my psp slim it was daunting reading all the readme & comments posted about how it was different from psp fat.
i got pandoras batery expecting to have to make do with 3.60 m33 instead of 3.71 m33 like my psp fats have installed.
when i ran the installer i was left 3.71 m33 on my psp slim.
Thanks either way FreePlay, its not for me but will come in handy for others

Anyone who says this is useless is an idiot. I bet if DAX released something like this you'd all be like "ZOMFG!!! This is amazing! DAX Legend!!!"

1. Watch the video. FreePlay clearly says at the start what this could possibly be used for.

2. The Slims initial FW was 3.60 just like that Fats was FW 1.00/1.50. With the Fat, a lot of the time we needed to revert back to FW 1.00/1.50. Now the SLim can revert back to its inital FW. Also the Fat has Pandora to do this. The Slim CANNOT revert to 1.50 using Pandora. So this is where this comes in.

Well done FreePlay. I can see where this might come in handy ;)

can this downgrade a 3.71 slim bak to 3.60?

   Re: FreePlay - 2008-01-13
 » Pandora-only

It can downgrade any slim to 3.60, if you have a Pandora battery and all the right files... which appear to be showing up on a few torrent sites -_-

I mentioned that they're on torrent sites; I'm sure that you could probably find them.

Well FreePlay.. As For Your Comment About Doing Somthing
What i Do Is Basically GAME EDITING..

My Work Is Not big headline news like yours, but really who would want to make the slim to 3.60 when 3.80 is out? i'm not a fan of custom firmware i do wait for updates to come out i know its alot of work for DAX but i would not say anything about his work because its somthing Original.. your 3.60 is a COPY of code already done and you just made it do 3.60 instead of 1.50
not really somthing to make a BIG headline about..

my work is all underground
look HARD you will see alot of work from my group
l8rs Syntax Terror Still alive !

   Re: FreePlay - 2008-01-13
 » Right...

... and 'game editing' is 'doing something.'

This is 100% original, my boy.

   Re: ValiX - 2008-01-13
» oh shut up Syntax Terror/GEC

Guess what? All custom firmwares are made from 'copies' of Sony's code which is then modified into the custom firmware.

This release is a big headline as it allows the slim to 'downgrade' back to its initial FW which could not previously be done. The only way to recover a Slim in the past was to use DaX's Universal Unbricker to re-install 3.71 M33 straight from the brick.
The Fat had the option to go to 3.71 M33 -OR- FW1.50
This 3.60 installer would be a good thing to replace the out of date option in Recovery to run an EBOOT to revert to FW 1.50 as this option is currently useless on the Slim.

An yes Syntax Terror/GEC this is a BIG headline news unlike any 'release' I have ever seen of yours. You claim that this is not orginal and thus is not big. The MPH 1.50 downgrader was VERY big news and yet according to what you have said, is not original because it uses 'copies of code already done.'

I don't know how to explain this any more to n00bs. basically if you think this is useless, you really have no right to comment. If you don't know what it does then don't use it or ask. But don't insult another devs work as you have no right to.

Gah... I miss the old Homebrew scene... Bring back the 1.50 and Devhook days...
