emmy awardsBack in 2005, The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences added an award category to recognize original video content for computers, cellphones, and other devices like the video iPod and PSP. Unfortunately, the category is awarded during the Technology & Engineering Emmy Award ceremonies where mostly Hollywood D-Listers attend. Which explains why nobody really takes notice.

Anyway, the Academy recently announced winners of the 58th Annual Emmy Awards for geeks at the CES 2007. The PSP came out as the winner in the category "Outstanding Innovation and Achievement in Advanced Media Technology for the Best Use of Personal Media Display and Presentation Technology."

Specifically, it was the PSP' s Cross Media Bar(XMB) that got the honors. Sony (in a tie with Nintendo) also won another one of them golden statuettes that look like car hood ornament for "Peripheral Development and Technological Impact of Video Game Controllers".

By the way, we heard Paris Hilton and Britney Spears dropped out of the awards not because it wasn't glamorous enough. But because they couldn't read any of the category names all the way through.

» You rabid fanboys really need to get a life...

You're only missing out by supporting just one system. I have both so I don't miss anything, whatever anyone decides to bring the games out for. Of course there'll probably just be replys saying how the DS is kiddie etc. but that arguemnt's pathetic, not being 18+ doesn't make a game kiddie. Anyway that's off the point.

The award for the XMB, it definetly deserved, but a joint award with Nintendo for controls? They've gotta be joking, Nintendo killed them on that part.

 » Of course it did.

Thank God you were here to clear up where the PSP lost/won. ; )

And don't say any argument is "pathetic" unless you can have a counter statement that actually does make it worthy of pathetic. Unless you were going by the 18+ age thing, in which case-- wow.

Alright, while you boys go control crazy with a ds, I'm watching a movie on the psp in full 480x272 resolution on the newest firmware. Yay for the ds, I wish the psp could keep up...

Nice to see people not forgetting it's a gaming machine. Oh, wait..

 » Hmm...

The PSP is much more than a gaming machine. Lately, it's been a ps1 portable for me. But I've used it for movies and music and photos and with the 8gb memory sticks on the horizon, the full potential of the unit is still not reached.

It's important to understand though, that dark alex and co have done more for the functionality of the PSP than Sony has.
