We're not worthy! We're not worthy!Other places got their "defining moments of the PSP in 2006" features that include such (finally) notable handheld games as Loco Roco (hey - it is fun, and it does the PSP justice) and MPO, and features like PS3-PSP interconnectivity and (official) PSOne emulation. But, gamer perspective that may be, that's still a perspective from the high end of the gaming industry. The big boys. Well, the small boys wanna play, too. And that's where we come in.

We'd agree that 2006 was a year to remember for great games and exciting new frontiers. But there's two things missing in those big-boy lists that matter to our PSP community the most. Not just things, but outright icons. And we're putting them both in our #1 defining moment of the PSP for 2006.

Booster and Dark_Alex. You knew this was coming.

They both got DA BIG 3-0H firmly in their pocket now. We can imagine the riptide of euphoria that exploded on the 4th of December - remember, remember, the 4th of December/DevHook v0.51 came out. Cut a couple weeks later, and another cheer went up with the successor to the solid SE series, the OE 3.x custom firmware series. In particular, OE-B rocked the socks, the pants, the breath, the skeletal system, and half the mojo out of the scene with Popstation.

And let us not forget a neglected segment of the community to which the DA was able to reach out to. In particular - remember, remember the 27th of December/When TA-082s went down. All the way down to 1.5. (Of course we must also remember that sometimes a lot of this is actually a team and combined effort. The Oscar speeches of Booster probably wouldn't be complete without mentioning Noobz's efforts.)

I think what makes these milestones even more poignant is the background surrounding both Booster and DA. Booster kinda went MIA for a while, and everyone noticed the void. It was not until Dark_Alex himself mentioned that the boy's back on the scene (after going over to... the dark side for a while) that we had some signs of life. And speaking of Dark_Alex, we all remember an infamous day where some bozo decided to use his name to spread a bricker - and it really hurt the real Alex. (BTW, have we found that impostor yet? I can't keep the Madman Kilbaba brand boiling oil boiling forever!).

That Booster finally came back after all that time, and Dark_Alex pressed on despite everything, just made their respective achievements all the sweeter. It's like they never left, only better. (You know, we've got to come up with a catchy portmanteau of these two every time we have to mention them both in an article. How about Boo-lex? Darkster?) No argument: these are the guys who blaze the trail for the rest of the homebrew community to follow, knowing that the path has been cleared for them.

That's our list of defining moments for the PSP this 2006. How do you thank guys like Boo-Lex? (Okay, "Darkster" sounded waaay much better than "Boo-Lex." Do we need to set up a poll on this?)

(BTW: this isn't in any way connected to the QJ community's Best Of user submissions thing. This is just the observation of a QJ writer whose job gives him the chance to observe the scene and the community. Although it's dang well likely that Darkster will end up on EVERYONE's PDP-moments list.)

I can't beleve this!!! This author and everyone else in the homebrew scene is forgeting on thing. And without them, we wouldn't be having ANY homebrew or downgraders on 2.01-2.80! Now let's put our kindergarden thinking caps on, who could possibly have contributed so much to the PSP scene? Oh yeah! THE NOOBZ TEAM!! They should realy add Fanjita and Ditewl on the list, or did they forget how to spell them?

The noobz team should be out there, but if you read the rest of the article it states it is just his opinion. The noobz team had the most impact on higher firmwares that's way he didn't include them (most likely he had a 1.5 and never cared about the others)

well it has been a pretty good year, but i would like to comment on some things that developers miss. 2.XX MEANS ALL OF THE 2.XX FIRMWARES (2.00-2.80) so when they put 2.xx people think they cracked 2.82! Well guess what they didnt!!!!!!!!!!

 » Thanks, everyone!

You know, without people like Dark_Alex and Booster and everyone at Noobz, PSP wouldn't be quite as great. I think I can say that 3.02 OE-B and popstation are 2 of the greatest peices of PSP homebrew ever, and probably up there with any video game homebrew.

Everyone, you're all incredibly talented and you've helped me to make my PSP a system that I can't afford to leave at home anymore. Thank you, truly. Here's to a great 2007 for PSP, from UMD to homebrew!

 » How to say thanks?

They really made my day when I was able to downgrade my ta-082!

How to say thank you? Do like me and send em some money!

I mean with all the homebrew I can now use and not to mention playing all my PS1 games. How much money did i really save? Well, enough to make me happy and send him 50$

And I will actually send another 50$ in a few weeks too :)

Thank you, Thank you so much Dark and Booster!
Thank you to give me the opportunity to use that useless piece of ***** that was my ta-082! lol

 » Another year...

Has passed and i'd have to admit that it has been an extremely wonderful year for psp hombrew scene(the best year so far). I know some of our japan launch psps are gettin' old and your silver crcle on the back is all scratched, but thanks to people like Dark_Alex and booster our psps feel new again. Without these people existing my psp would be collecting dust instead of being playes. Booster and Alex I salute you.

   by Osaka (Unregistered) - 2007-01-01
 » Thank you

Thank you to all you devs and Dark_Alex for 3.02 OE. Without it, I was planning to sell my psp for an mp3 player, but I decided it was worth keeping for the Playstation games library. I think you've saved many PSP's from the fate of collecting dust and being put up on ebay, so keep up the awesome work :)

Looks like at the end of 06 we (the HB scene) were winning in the war against $Ony. i wonder what $ony has in store for us homebrewers this wonderful year.

Thanks to Fanjita, Dark Alex, Ditlew, 0okm, edison carter, and all the other devs that made our year an eventful one.

all the best.

these guys r *****ING GOD'S in this scene all the devs are gr8 but DA has placed himself in a new categeory (just like when n008s released thew first eloader (gta) remeber wow that feels like so long ago my psp is the ULTIMATE TOOL no longer a toy.. the sad part is people dont know its power gr8ter than any pda gr8r than and ipod now if only we had better storage :@ i want a 8gb memstick WHERE R THEY!!! ohh and ***** SONY!!!!! onli realesing a few ps1 games at a time like people dont know it was so that when we cracked their firmware they would have more incentive to upgrade WELL GUESS WHAT *****ES DA GAVE US ALLLLLLLL THE PS1 GAMES !! AND WE DONT NEED NO *****ING PS3 ...... i used 2 like sony but now that im watching the war between them and the hackers (such a dirty word id rather say devs) and i c all their dirty tricks i h8 them + they dont offer anything near the homebrew community when they fully could,, how about an OFFICIAL SONY SHELL they could do it but they wont SO ***** EM LONMG LIVE ALL THE DEVS MY PSP went from1.5->2.6 first day noobs started the brew on that then i took it bacvk to 1.5 I THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER UPGRADE AGAIN and then 3.02 OE-A came out

 » LimePatch

if there was a feuters so could jump down this post i would.
I mean it could be true what he is saying but it just becomse more true when he post it because the people how are reading this starts to think different so like for example take Raf the PspRadio dev let's someone dev like him is thinking about starting a great psp homebrew software so he dose and complete it BUT if then he reads this and and days goes and then he thinks about making a psp homebre software but then hed feel left alone or he thinks like " psp homebrew scene is over and i would just do a crap homebrew software anyway ......... and thhat is bad because every dev starts from a starting point or should say we start as noobs and become profesional and if people stop becoming devs for psp we wile end up with a dead scene so yeah it really suck to post this
