psp - Image 1

Heads up to the PSP community: PSP firmware 5.51 is now live. Sony says the new update is just a minor revision which improves the system stability during the use of some features.

Nothing much has been revealed by Sony in the changelog. You can download the update directly by using the Network Update feature or download it here.

» system stability patch? i remember 'em...

Guys, Sony is doing great job these days... Look at this patch, it says

"System software stability during use of some features has been improved."

means (different from old stability patches):

"We've fixed an exploit before you find it!"

 » ...

yawn....

clap clap

   Re: WiiRolled - 2009-06-11
 » Wrong

Increased system software stability generally means less crashes.
So we've got less crashes during the use of some features.

To put it simply: "This patch prevents the PSP from crashing during the use of certain TIFF image files."

sounds like your an eployee for sony.

Sounds like he is an Employee of Sony.......I agree with xavis75211

Sony, when r you going to put an update with more features?? and.......where was that camera.......and GPS........that the PSP is capable off..........The camera thing was available on the XMB since a long time ago........but never saw the camera on the market for the U.S........ meaning we were having a USELESS button that we just had to skip to see our pictures....

   Re: xgamer91 - 2009-06-11
 » I agree with southsidexz

There is an option to use a camera in the XMB and I always had to skip it to view my photo's. Sony said that the camera will be out available in the U.S. but IT NEVER HAPPENED. I also thought that Sony said that the GPS was gonna be available in the U.S. AT THE END OF 2008. AT THE END OF 2008, PEOPLE!!!!! Hey Sony, stop promising all of this bulls**t and putting features in the PSP that we cant use if your not gonna make it available for us!!!!

   Re: skeez - 2009-06-12
 » southsidexz...

the camera is for sale in Australia for a while now...
i doubt that this "technology" didnt get to the US yet. lol.

@WiiRolled being able to crash the system generally leads to some form of exploit though, does it not?

@Skeez Nope, it actually isn't available in the US...

Either you've been drinking way too much of the Sony kool-aid, or you're an idiot.

TIFF image files crashing + hacked PSP. This is not a patch to "increase stability" it's a patch to prevent homebrew, plain and simple.

^^ I think you need a sarcasm patch. o_O

 » Doubt it...

If QJ looked on the internet like everyone else they would know that GEN plans for 5.50GEN-A. It is most likely to counter it.

 » DARK_ALEX

Man, havent heard from Dark_Alex for a while. Hope he hasnt quit yet. T_T...........i was hoping to see another CFW because some games now require the newer version.

   Re: 1ofamillion - 2009-06-11
 » exams exams...

he does have a life out of the hacking scene :)

   Re: James2k - 2009-06-17
 » What 1ofamillion said

And the fact that Dark_Alex has exams at the moment so just be patient.

Plus Chiri_13 has developed Update Trick which will allow you to play games that need a higher firmware than 5.00. The program just makes use of the version.txt and makes your PSP look like it has 5.50 or 5.50 GEN on it.

 » Why...

Why does Sony even try anymore? They know we will get around their patches every time.

   Re: mr.x256 - 2009-06-12
 » -

Because it might actually be a patch to increase stability.

   Re: pokerpoker - 2009-06-12
 » @mr.x256

you think so ?
now you sound like a sony employee

   Re: xavis75211 - 2009-06-12
 » agian @pokerpoker

he doesent sound much like a sony empolyee like you did on first post

"We've fixed an exploit before you find it!"
you said "WE" so you admited you were with them, or you just talk too much

   Re: Drunk Vegan - 2009-06-13
 » @xavis

Clearly sarcasm is a concept you've yet to master. Obviously pokerpoker was smirking at Sony's ability to, yet again, distort the truth and block use of their hardware. Only this time they managed to do it before we even saw the exploit, YAY! (see, that's sarcasm dude.)

   Re: Stealth! - 2009-06-13
 » Drunk Vegan

Whether you believe Sony or not is irrelevant. There's been plenty of new games lately that could require such a firmware update. I honestly think you're reading far too much into this article. Who cares. Let sony continue trying to stabilize games and the like. You think they're lying and it's for the new Custom Firmware, then cool. I personally trust Sony enough as a consumer, that it's to fix stability for my games. And if you or anyone think i'm a Sony Employee or whatever good for you. I'm glad you think highly of me. I'm 22, currently no job thanks to the recession and honestly couldn't care if you think I'm a Sony Employee.

   Re: James2k - 2009-06-17
 » Agreeing with Stealth!

I actually believe that

"System software stability during use of some features has been improved."

Means less crashes.

Sony have probably added patches to firmwares without putting anything in the changelog related to patching anything. It's there product they can do what they want firmware wise.

Im sure Sony are well in the know of what Hackers like Dark_Alex do to get access to various parts of the PSP e.g. Flash0 and Kernel and are always putting in measures to stop it. Heck the PSAR Dumper is avaliable to download and anyone can use it, and that decrypts any firmware from 2.71 up to 5.00 (Currently)

I read in a article on the BBC that Dark_Alex can see the changes Sony have made to there firmware in order to stop homebrew etc.

Sorry for the long ass comment but, really I think they just fixed general crashes.

"I've just seen that a new Original Firmware has been released.

Changes? It just seems that it will improve "some" functionality within "some" features, lol.

There will be no M33 cfw for this ofw."

When will Sony stop with the pointless updates?
There will always be a way to hack a system, the 3k & 88v3 are hackable, but no-one has found out how yet.

Desperate bastards.......

they keep making update to keep the kids or brianless people on there firmware, and they hope to god someone will update trying to get to 5.03 now

I'm sorry Xavis, usually I don't care about typos or incorrect spelling, but yours was just too good to not point it out.

i have heard this update actully dose do a good job making the sistem run smoother and i dont think dark alex will make a cfw of this one. althought he should and add the features of the last two updates that he hasnt made cfws for. honestly i have found quiet a few bugs in the latest cfw. maby its just the plugins i use but it seems i hafta reinstall it over and over again. anyway my psp has been neglected the past few weeks sence i got my ps3

 » sony employee?

you people sound like schizophrenics.
YOU SOUND LIKE A SONY EMPLOYEE
ARE YOU!?
lol :)
the only reason i like Sony coming out with new fw is that it means that there's gonna be a new cfw. :D

   Re: James2k - 2009-06-17
 » Yes but..

You won't see 5.50 M33. As Dark_Alex has announced he won't be making it. He has exams anyway, so fair play.

"Fixing exploits before you find them"

It makes the TIFF files unreadable by the psp, so it does fix the exploit.
