TA-086We're going to break this thing gently to you. Remember the Terminator movies? In the third installment, Rise of the Machines, we were introduced to a stronger and faster killing machine. It was called TX. T-101, as Schwarzenegger's character said, is already an obsolete design. Don't forget however that during its prime, T-101 gave humans a ton of problems.

Now, think of the cursed TA-082 as the T-101. Why? Because rumors are spreading that Sony just unleashed its own TX. In a post in 0okm's blog, there's an image that shows the latest motherboard PCB called TA-086. Rumor has it that it's another one of those hellish motherboards made specifically to crush the scene. As of now, the homebrew community is still unable to fully crack the previous TA-082.

So, what information are known regarding this TA-086? Unfortunately, no one knows for sure. Firmware restrictions, what firmware it ships with, we do not know. Some are even saying it doesn't actually exist. Good then if that's the case. But what if it's the other way around?

well that sucks for all the new people getting psps. Luckily for me I still have my 1.5 so I'm alright. Man Sony...you sure are stubborn.

 » we'll crack it

At the end of the day what ever can be made by sony the psp hackers can undo, given enough time, so im not that worried

   by chris (Unregistered) - 2006-11-04
 » they will crack

This is not impossable to crack, highley skilled hackers can accomplish nearly everything. If they can hack into companies or the police pc's, surely they can crack a little motherboard...

Someone better crack those TA-082 mother boards quick or else sony will wipe us out within a year :(

   Re: B-R8 (Unregistered) - 2006-11-04
 » It was

0okm already did. He was even downgrading TA-082s to firmeare version 1.5 on a case by case basis. Then someone tried to hack his gmail account, so he pulled the plug.

   Re: doormat (Unregistered) - 2006-11-05
 » You say...

I hear what you say B-R8: but I've never heard from anyone who 0okm actualy downgraded. And as soon as people started to ask questions... poof!

Let's just say its not been independently confirmed that the TA-082 has ever been cracked.
   by Spikey!xx - 2006-11-04
» It's not to bad just yet

At the moment, softwares been able to acomplish anything a mod chip has and more, and hopefully that will continue.

What does worry be though is that if this TA-086 board is indeed real, PSP-Devs are going to focus on cracking that board instead of the TA-082, leaving the previous model which many people are hoping to be cracked, totaly ignored.

Also, I want to invest in a new PSP soon, as I'm worried all the firmware flashing I do could eventually brick my PSP1000 japanese model (I imported before the European launch)

Let the hacking begin....

 » .

Microsoft gave people the ability to make Homebrew games and play them on their 360s.

Why can't sony?!

Microsoft > Sony

   Re: RD261 (Unregistered) - 2006-11-04
 » WELL

AS long as hackers keep doing piracy Sony will keep preventing them (at least temporarily). If they would just use it for homebrew then it would be fine; but hey most people use it to play free PSP games, and Sony is loosing lots of money. If I had a business and someone was stealing my money you could rest assure I would do the same. I dont have anything against homebrew but I do against piracy, after all if Sony doesnt make money then they would go to bankrupcy and we wont have a playstation.

   Re: blah (Unregistered) - 2006-11-04
 » and....

how many people know about the scene and the isos? maybe 2% of the owners. Sony knows this. Sony is just using their efforts to make sure we don't have homebrew on our psp. Whho knows? Maybe this board is real or not, but most likely, the board will probably reject firmwares up to 2.8!!! But, rest assured, if 1.5 firmware was possible on ta-082 (long live ookm!), then most probably, we just need to give this time to bloom.

   Re: GaveUpTomorrow - 2006-11-04
 » even if

it is only 2% of all users (which could be more or less) that use homebrew and isos, that's a 2% loss that sony is taking. If you are a company, you don't want to take any loss period. I also don't mind homebrew, but sony can't allow it at all, because even when they try to prevent it, people still find ways to use isos. I buy all of my games, and I wish that others did the same as well.

   Re: Vietone - 2006-11-04
» Anything on XNA goes through screening first

You think every piece of software someone makes through the XNA kit will be released without testing first.

Also each piece of software will have to be checked for legalities like a Divx player. Each piece of software will have to be authorized by divx to be purchased and therefore money.

Mario remakes wont make it because Nintendo wont allow it.

Open Homebrew? More like Restricted Filtering.

   Re: I'm an asian (Unregistered) - 2006-11-04
 » 2%???

Where the hell you guys get the statistic of 2%? In this place I live in, more than 90% of the game shops are selling downgraded psp and services and not to mention people that purchased psp here know about it.

   Re: Ya... (Unregistered) - 2006-11-05

Most people that use psp homebrew dont do ISO's
I bet less then 1 percent use ISO's out of all the homebrewers

For all we know this could be a good thing.. Alot like the CWcheat .. If there is more the one object you check to see whats diffrent with each. The diffrence makes it easier to narrow down what changed and what can change. Hopfuly it would make getting the TA-086 up to par... Just my toughts..

Can be downgraded to FW v1.5 via HEN C and devhook 4.xx for FW v2.71?

   Re: dorkdork777 (Unregistered) - 2006-11-04

TA-082s can't be downgraded. End of story. 0okm has stopped work on his SoftDown project.

guy above me ur dumb, biff was basically saying ta-082's can emulate 1.5 through devhook.

Can anyone explain why we need to crack TA-082 when FW v1.5 can be emulated???? Anyone?

I hope this isn't real. But, we also don't know that much about it. It could be hackable.

BTW: I personally think Ookm's softdown project was a scam. Little too convenient.

» It was in the best of Sony's interest

I'm not surprised. With this new revision, Sony can probably make PSP cheaper. And, the WiFi module they had that would over heat, is probably fixed in this new motherboard. And, you can get better overall stability, when you do what the PSP is supposed to do, which isn't homebrew. And, I don't like homebrew. I'd rather play FTB2 and VCS over NES any day.

I hope the psp doesnt go the road of the ps2; where the newer ps2 models released were completely unable to run or physically install any of the "homebrew" applications the ps2 scene had made for it.

But this is seeming very likely :(

ookm didn't hack ta-082, he just wanted attention. he's a liar and got alot of peoples hopes up for nothing. DarkAlex is the king of hacking.

Re: How do you know? (Unregistered) - 2006-11-05
 » ...

How do you know he was lying and bbg suace was right its just like 2.81 it blocked homebrew... then they came out with 2.82 it also was a secruity update seem strange? If none has hacked a TA-82, 0okm almost succeded but stoped... Yet sony updates the motherboard? Why? Is there something 0okm missed? Perhaps.
   by Eugeniu (Unregistered) - 2006-11-04
 » wow

I bet sony's making this only so you won't be able to tell what mobo it is just by opening up the umd drive.

   Re: not (Unregistered) - 2006-11-04
 » Ding Ding Ding

Finally... someone with an original thought process. This is more then likely what this motherboard is all about. Also, there were revisions to the WiFi cards so my guess... maybe Sony will be releasing this motherboard and new WiFi (no overheat issues) cards in the new PSPs due out with 3.0 Firmware. If it's not out yet... (but if it's out now and true because of Ookum's findings I would say that the motherboard is limited to run Firmware that won't go below 2.82).

Damn another board.... sony knew we were getting closer to craking the TA-082 so they created the TA-086
... since no boady has got the TA-082 i highly doubt they will crack this one since TA-082 isn't....
do who ever buys a NEW psp in the comming year will be *****ed...but i'll buy on to just to have one PSP updated.

As if Sony didn't do enough, they have to make another type of PCB and ruin all the fun for us homebrew users. To death with it!

   by fj4 (Unregistered) - 2006-11-04
 » Damn...

Well, can't say we didn't see this one coming. As tech matures, less expensive manufacturing processes come about. Sony gets a 2-hit combo, making more (or losing less?) money on each system sold and messing with the scene.

Off topic, the ads here can kiss my a$$. There's a fu˘king huge Windows Live ad, with no close button, covering half the article. Nice.

   Re: Arg (Unregistered) - 2006-11-04
 » ditto

I agree with the 2-hit combo thing completely.

And the ads here ARE really weak, I can understand ads, but making them more annoying won't make ppl click. +/
