PSP homebrew developer Mr. Shizzy has released his 5.01 Easy Installer application - the totally "n00b proof installer," as he calls it.
Note that this application isn't really for everyone, chances are you don't need it because you already have your FW (and CFW) updates in place. But for those who do need some assistance, here are some notes from Mr. Shizzy: This is nothing more than a simple installer to apply the SONY 5.01 Firmware fixes to 5.00 m33. (There have been safety checks put in place, to prevent someone flashing this to the wrong firmware...) Some people don't like manually flashing their PSP, so maybe they will find this helpful. All set? Here's the video to demonstrate how easy it is to install: The more notes are included in the download page and in the readme file in the downloadable archive. I suppose its because I installed it AFTER I updated to 5.00 M33-2
regardless, it ran, say's succcessful but whenever I try to login to PSstore it says I need to update to the newest FW.
Tried disabling M33 network updates via recovery menu and still have the same error.
so, any ideas?

In recovery mode you need to Disable M33 Network Update and Enable Use version.txt
then PSN will load.

"Update Has Already Been Installed. Returning To XMB"
how can i be installed? the psn error about the memstick space still occurs.
