A few weeks ago Bethesda Softworks announced that a new Star Trek title in the vein of Tactical Assault was streaking across the galaxy to the PSP. This came as a bit of surprise as the Star Trek game franchise had belonged to Activision for the last 5 years and had another 5 to go in their contract. Sadly, there was no mention of it here on PSPUpdates – there was a nasty earwig infection going around that week, apparently. That’s the last time I vacation on Seti Alpha V. But we cleared our heads in time to catch this interview from Gamecloud with Pete Hines of Bethesda about their acquisition of the Star Trek lineup.

…we feel like it’s a great license for video games that has never reached its full potential, and we think we know how to take a Star Trek game to the next level. We’ve got what we think are good ideas to use the license in a way that fits both the license and the kind of games generally that people expect and want to play, plus talented people to implement those ideas. It also allows us to move into some genres and platforms we haven’t gone after to date so it felt like something we really wanted to do.
