Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords for the PSP title screen - Image 1There is a bug in the PSP version of Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords which was brought up on the Infinity Forums. This bug apparently involves the special abilities of your companions in the game. In a nutshell, their abilities do not work. This bug was confirmed by Steve Fawkner, a developer for Infinite Interactive.

Mr. Fawkner's reaction was rather positive stating that "it doesn't break the storyline at all" and even said that "it really shouldn't affect the gameplay in any significant way".  Then he presented an explanation on why it was difficult to spot:

The difficulty in spotting this bug was more about timing than anything else. I do owe anybody affected an explanation... this is not intended as an excuse... merely an example of how easily these things can happen. With 1-2 days to go until Gold Master, a change was made to the code that caused this problem (it had been working bug free for 8-9 months up until then).

He added that they just forgot about it as they were more preoccupied fixing bigger problems with the game. The playtesters at Sony must have missed it as well because they had no idea that it was supposed to be there.

As for a fix, certain people have been asking for a patch that can be installed on a memory stick to fix this. It has even been suggested that they should have a trade-in scheme to allow those who want a patched UMD to trade in their old one. So far no confirmed fixes have been announced, more on this as we get more information.

Special thanks to Haoyong for the tip!

 » Drat! Not an exploit....

When I read the word "Bug" in the header, I'd hoped that someone had found another GTA:LCS-type kernel exploit. Of course, it's not really necessary (unless this game only runs on FW3.11).

At least it's not a major bug like the Nintendo DS version of Bubble Bobble where the level 40 boss just fails to appear, leaving the player stuck in a pastel videogame hell.

 » Fawkner

A minor correction: Steve Fawkner isn't just a developer... he's the originator of the Warlords franchise, and it's good that he spoke up about the bug, rather than a marketing drone.

how can they miss the bug - and then the playtesters not see it!?!? did they even play it. i found it within about 20mins.

about 3 battles in you meet a half-elf ranger who joins your party.
his special ability is that all undead you face have -10 from their starting HP.
2 battle later you fight undead.... at full health.
first of all i thought that i must have to activate his power. then read in game instructions and it says their powers are always active.

so, yeah its nice that Fawkner spoke up but it doesnt really change things for me. and actually Fawkner it does change gameplay (even though you insist it doesnt) as I can only have a limited amount of people in my party. now i have no need for a party! what is the point in travelling companions if they cannot provide any assistance? what difference does it make who i have in that partry now - it is purely and aesthetic decision.
lame.

but all in all this is still an AMAZINGLY addictive game and i love it to bits.... which is why this bug is even more irritating.
