[Bo]Trops has released another version of his homebrew Sega Master System and Game Gear emulator called PSPMaster today, updating it to v009 beta4. PSPMaster is one of the favourite SMS/Game Gear emulators for the PSP for a couple of reasons, firstly for the huge feature list and the amount of compatible ROMs, and secondly for the amount of updates that [Bo]Trops fires out on a regular basis. The last version of PSPMaster was released not even a week ago! Here's the v009 beta4 changelog:
  • New high definition renders. Be sure to change the CPU clock to 300MHz to get a decent speed.
  • Some minor changes
Now the changelog isn't massive, but the addition of new high definition renders is a huge update and as long as your PSP's battery is charged up enough to run at 300Mhz then you will notice a significant graphics improvement. This is one of the few emulators that still comes in firmware 1.0 and 1.5 formatted eboots so make sure you download the correct one!

Not to troll, but I was just wondering how the graphics could be improved. Didn't the emulator already produce pixel-perfect graphics, which would technically be the "best" graphics emulation? Is some kind of filter applied? That would make it look different from the console and therefore not as good, IMHO.

[Bo]Trops, I tried to check this out and the ZIP is broken. "Unexpected end of archive." Please re-upload, and thanks!

r u that lazy? just do the 1.0 and kxploit it. i would like to see you guys run a perfect site. also, the hd looks awesome. i thought the graphics were as high as possible but it does noticably improve them. and at 333 mhz, it is normal speed. great update

This is the best SMS & GG emulator by far - Thanks [Bo]Trops. I hope you don't mind if I make some, hopefully, constructive comments.

I preferred the previous menu screen with the background and music.

The HD is very impressive but, unfortunately, Sonic1 runs too slow, even at 333mhz, to be playable.

Looking at the official page I see it says it's for FW1.0 & 1.5. I use the Eloader on FW2.0 and it works fine except it locks the PSP up on exit :-

 » 300mhz for decent speed?

Why does an SMS emulator need to run 300mhz for good speed? The original processor was like 3 or 4 mhz! SMS plus 1.2 has been around for a while, works perfectly, and has ad hoc multiplayer. Why do people waste time on some emulators when pre-existing ones are perfect?

That emulator had poor sound IMHO.

@11, learn how to read man. It says that it will run full speed with 300mhz if you have the 'high definition render' on!!!

If it's turned off, it will be full speed at 133mhz and game gear at 100mhz.

 » Shut Down

PSPMaster works like a charm on 1.5 FW, but with D_A 2.71SE-A i get black screen, the memory stick light blinks like a crazy then shut down the PSP.
