PSPTube - Image 1

SofiyaCat has released an updated version of PSPTube, the handy dandy homebrew application that lets you watch YouTube videos on your PlayStation Portable without the need to download and convert .flv files. For installation instructions, click on the "PSPTube" link above. Here's the changelog posted by SofiyaCat on our forums:
  • button swap
  • fixed some bugs.
  • favorite folder(video download)
  • maybe thumbnail work...(you have to set to 1 at psptube.cfg)
Here are the new controls for this version of PSPTube (thanks to QJ.NET forums member Ranmax09 for posting these on the forums):
  • O - To exit video and to type and search for YouTube videos
  • X - Select video
  • R-L - Displays next/previous page
  • Start - Pause
  • Select in video - Screen size
  • Triangle - Downloading video to favorites
  • Select in video selection screen - Favorites
If you have any questions, please drop by the PSPTube thread on the QJ.NET PSP Development Forums by clicking on the Visit link below. The download also includes a readme file, so make sure to read that before you install PSPTube. You might have to run it through a web translator if you don't speak Japanese, though.

 » He's not retarded... it's just broke.

to the "you're retarded" commenter.

Actually. Even if everything is set up correctly, this program seems to randomly fail on connecting to WEP and WPA (I have never seen WPA work with psptube) It's not anything to do with it being set up wrong. It is as far as I can tell due to the rediculously short time set for the failed reply. WPA takes longer to connect, so it automatically fails, WEP sometimes takes too long, so it sometimes fails.

also the signal strength can affect your success rate. I have found anything below 60% is likely to fail.

 » Youtube only?

Since it's basically a flv player and a semi-web browser (tailored to youtube specifically) would it be possible to rig it to search another flv site? Doesn't seem to be anything in the config for it, so I'm guessing it's in the game data itself.

Maybe some sort of dns thing like the early psp web browsers? Like set it up to redirect traffic from youtube to another site?

   Re: magicbob (Unregistered) - 2007-08-12
 » that

I don't think so, because I think this uses the youtube developer api, and doesn't just grab the videos off of a page. I think that it could be rigged if it was open source (is it?) and the other video site had a similar api.

   Re: Networkgamer (Unregistered) - 2007-08-13

 » Says connecting then freezes

If you get that problem here is a very SIMPLE solution.
But for the retards out there ill explain it in detail.
1)Turn off your PSP
2)Turn on your PSP while holding down the R button
3)You will see a few options scroll down and select plugins.
4)Disable all plugins.
5)Select Back
6)Select exit
7)Run PSPTube
8)Select your prefered wifi connection by pressing circle

Yes this actually works, who knew.

By the way. Your welcome

can anyone help? i got a problem, everytime i play a video it plays fine but then after a while it just freezes, i am able to exit by pressing x but after that it cant find any videos. Then if i change vsync from 0 to 1 in psptube.cfg, it doesnt freeze but instead the sound is way off course with the video like a 4 second delay.
any ideas?

 » Foolproof

To fix probs...

- WEP and WPA do work.

- You MUST use DHCP (Easy network settings).

- Use FW 3.40 OE-A, 3.51 M33 Update 7, 3.52 M33 Update 2, or Wildcard 3.40 3.

- Copy the contents of 200over to your GAME3xx folder.

- Make sure you typed in your YouTube Developer ID into the config.

- Enable cache and Vsync in the cnnfig, and bump up the buffer to 13.

As of this release, use X to choose your net connection.

Many videos don't work. That's life.

Thanks Sofiya for this great app!!

» Not all FLV's will work

As far as playing FLV's on the Favorites, most of my FLV's don't work. I downloaded a bunch of short commercials from Youtube last night, and only a fifth of the files are playing. (I downloaded the FLV's through Safari and moved them into the Favorites folder.) The bad files just result in a black screen, and the only way to escape is to use the Home button. That's rather a pain to have to navigate back & forth in & out of PSPTube.

Also, I found that FLV's from other sites (like MSNBC, Cartoon Network & Dailymotion) can play on the app, though I haven't tested them to the same extent as I did Youtube above.

Once it can truly play back all FLV files, this app will be indispensible for playing short videos. It would be nice for full-length movies only if it had some type of rewind or fast-forward navigation. Kudos to Sofiakat!!!

   Re: PSPrulez (Unregistered) - 2007-08-14
» Found a way so that many files work in favorites

Well it's very easy. You only have to rename the file. The reason most files don't work is because of the filename. Don't know which caracters are making it non-playable but i have tried it with some video's that i downloaded to my favorites that didn't work and after renaming worked!
