Amiga Emulator: PSPUAE v0.55

Just a few days back, Ric and Fol were able to update their homebrew Amiga emulator, PSPUAE, with a whole bunch of changes and improvements. They really want to keep their emu alive, and we can't blame them if it's this good. Now, it's reached version 0.55a, and this time around, MrModem from the PSPUAE forums was the one who worked on the update. Here's what he was able to add to PSPUAE v0.55a:
  • Added some more Joystick mapping options. You can now use any button to control Amiga joystick 0.
  • Changed all sceCtrlReadBufferPositive to sceCtrlPeekBufferPositive. This *could* speed things up a little, because sceCtrlReadBufferPositive always waits for vsync.
  • Fixed a "bug" that caused the PSP to crash if you tried to exit using the home button.
  • Added Bilinear filtering when zoom is turned on.
Getting it to play is a bit confusing, especially if you're not familiar with emulating systems and roms. The readme is very detailed and quite easy-to-follow. Most (if not all) the info you'd need is already there. Take a look at it in case you run into some problems.

To the staff of PSP UAE and for its supporters, we're glad you guys are still going strong!

Download: [PSPUAE v0.55a]

Update: One of the developers, Fol, informed us about the wrong file they've provided. Here's what the developer had to say: "I compiled the completely wrong version, I feel rather silly. Its now corrected as 0.55a."

The download link we have now directs you to the updated version.

i love this emu

hope they work on the speed more and optimising the sound output

you cant beat playing

X-COM on this emu, even if its a bit slow,

Also, has anyone got Moonstone to work on this

it gets to the intro, yet you cant get passed it as for some reason, no matter the configuration for joystick 0/1 and mouse L+R it doesn't know that you press the damn buttons lol

Brilliant emu

I cant get moonstone to work casue it says it has to be installe don ahrddisk or have 2 mb ram or something, I also cant get maupiti island and Hunter to work.

OK moon stone works now, W00T

@Strangler

do a Google search for moonstone on the Amiga, it should be 3 disks, unzip these and put them in your Disk's folder

in the options screen for the emu,(select button)
change your setting to these

fastram size: 2048
chipmem: 2048
bogmem: 1536
sound emulation: exact
stereo: stereo
floppy speed: turbo

works like a charm

also remember that moonstone utilizes the joystick, not the mouse (trust me, i got the original :P )

I downloaded a version of Moonstone from here:
http://moonstone.classicgaming.gamespy.com/emulation.htm

does that version work?

   by Barts_706 - 2006-09-12

Good to know someone made Moonstone work... BTW, anyone here managed to do that with Wolfchild?

As for the authors of PSPUAE - stop cosmetic changes, just speed the damn thing up! If you don't know how, ask Zx-81, he'll tell you.

its not slow it just needs more compatibility with games. and lol at wolfchild, that has to be the funniest name of a game.

@Strangler

tested and worked, so yes

make sure your using this new release of the emu

Also, not sure if it makes a difference or not, but if you have the kickstart3.1 bios, set that up under bios version

you will need to rename it to kick31
and add that to :PSPGAME__SCE__PSPUAE
folder

also i agree with BARTS

i think the emu is fine now, just needs more game compatibility, and some code optimisation so we can run full speed with unshuttered sound

yet please note, I'm still extremely happy with what is here right now

(now if only there was a way to play Walker, not that its ever going to happen, as you need both the mouse and keyboard for it)

ok I got it to work, and I got armour gaddon to work too although i cant figuare out hot to get out of a baot in this game. What I still cant get to work is speedball 2 and getting past the "Here are the ingame keys" screen in apidya.

Just a Word to the devs of this emu if there listening

can you please make the mouse movement A setting to toggle on and off

its kinda annoying having to hold down a button to get the mouse to move slower, cant you make that a toggle button,

press once for fast mouse movement, press again for slow mouse movement

any of you guys know how to change the settings and mapped key buttons to defaults so you dont have to go to the option menu every time you turn on the emulator and change the keys again? Also have any of you got Godz, maupiti island, speedball 2, or adpidya to work?

Right, there is a compatability Database over at PSPUAE.com, it lists the settings for which games will run, it might be simple but it works. I disabled it for non members as people were just entering crap.

Moonstone works on all 0.51 + versions, Walker is great if you set up controls to your liking.

Spped is fine, as if you play with settings (AS YOU WOULD WITH WinUAE) then you can get some awesome speeds. i.e. Xenone 2, i can play with perfect sound and FPS at 45 to 50.

Ric has worked wonders with the speed and Mrmodem`s changes to the 0.54 release were the icing on the cake. Please tell me how we are spending time on cosmetic things? the menu aint got a lovely picture in the backgorund? the menu aint got all nice tabs?
So we aint done anything cosmetic, Im spending time, day in day out, adding new options, to try and squeeze more speed out of it.

Yes, it will crash if you use PSP home button in Emu menu. Main thing the home, exit approach actually works.

Mouse speed options is on the to do list. I started a to do list over at PSPUAE.com for this very reason, this way we can add to it, change it as things are done. We are listening.

If you cant get a game to work, please register at PSPUAE.com and PM me, I will test them and get them working, i aint come across a game that doesnt work yet. I have over 300 Adf`s on my MS, and i have gone through about 200+ and all work, just a matter of getting the settings right.

 » compatibility

to anyone who has said this emulator needs to be more compatibile, FOL is quite right in suggesting speaking to us over at pspuae.com - as one of the staff there, i can tell you we're very amicable, especially if you detail to us any problems you're having... and i'm always knocking about to lighten the load from people asking the dev's too many questions about such things.

i have been using amigas for over 17 years now, and as i am aware this emualtor is -very- compatible with all non-AGA games (i.e ~a500 games).... i have yet to find one that does not work once the settings have been refined or ADF switched.

cheers for the comments - apart from those about the tetris release which has nothing to do with pspuae! :P

 » ahh yeah

ADF graphics and CD32 support would be sweet! Keep up the great work. I think the speed is pretty good although the sound gets messed up often.

   by ggf (Unregistered) - 2006-09-13

What's the game in the pic?

   by Extremo (Unregistered) - 2006-09-13

I love amiga ; keep up the good work!!
