PSPVBA v1.1.0 Released - Fast and Smooth!

Zx-81 has gone and done it again by releasing v1.1.0 of his PSPVBA GameBoy Advance emulator for the PSP today! According to Zx himself, the best GBA emulator for the PSP to date is now both fast and smooth, with quite a few changes, and now works on both 2.5 and 2.6 firmwares perfectly! However, Zx has confirmed that this will probably be the last 2.5/2.6 compatible version of PSPVBA because he is going to work on using the ME which is only possible on 1.5 with Kernel mode. Here's the latest changelog:
  • It works now on 2.5 and 2.6 FW (Zx has tested it using DevHook)
  • All the graphics parts have been rewritten to replace SDL by direct GU access (faster)
  • Sound is now played at 22Khz instead of 11Khz (i can play it up to 44Khz, but it's slower).
  • The images are now smooth (using the GU)
  • Snapshot files are now in PNG format (instead of BMP)
As with all of Zx's previous releases, this version comes packaged under GPL copyright, please read copying.txt for more info, comes with 1.5 and 1.0 binary versions in the download as well as the source code. Happy GBA emulation!

i wonder how fast this app really is? im hopin for atleast 25-30 fps in most games. i'll have to take it for a test drinve and see if this is emulator is in playable shape. if it is then zx-81 has solved one of my biggest homebrew problems. but requardless if it's complete or not thank you for the time and effort put into this app zx.

i dont have much experience with this emulator but with default settings im getting 7-8 fps average in both super mario advance (j) and f-zero (j). mabe its just me tho, mabe someone can post some optimal settings for us.

Ok seems like itsa improved to about 10fps or so, ZX-81 has informed us that this will be the last compatible version for 2.01+ firmware so if you have a 2.01+ (not the TA-082) psp, time to downgrade and use devhook and still keep upto date with GBA.

Much better improvement sound wise, now taht zx is on 1.5 and gonna us ME I give it 2 weeks latest taht he will have it up to 25 -30 fps and sound at 100%. Keep it up ZX-81 Your the bomb. Oh as a request since the original GBA played GB and GBC games do you think once you knda master the GBA engine you can add a GB engine to it. That way we can load all the Gamboy roms in one emu that would be awesome but if not no biggie.

How much of a speed/quality improvement are you expecting to gain out of using the ME when you get it working? Are we talking large gains as in doubling performance or more along the lines of 10-20%?

Just wondering how much potential is left for improving performance.

Great work, btw. Do you have a team of coding monkey slaves working for you that you're not telling us about? How else can you make such frequent releases? LOL

i think the fps meter is broken, to tell how fast a rom is going i think its the percentage number, the number next to the fps. correct me if im wrong.
