Ó

Here's an interesting PSP homebrew project you guys might like. It's called PSPdisp from developer Jochen Schleu, and it basically lets you use your PSP as an extra monitor for your PC. It's kinda like the opposite of TyRaNiD's RemoteJoyLite.

The PSP screen will have a total space of 960x544. Settings are adjusted from the PC. As Schleu says, "the PSP really only acts as a passive display." The author reports that the program works for both the slim and the phat running on custom firmware, and was tested on CFW 4.01M33. Here's a vid to give you an idea of what it does:

The program doesn't work on Vista though, sorry fellas. Here are the requirements of the program from the PC side, and the installation procedures:

PC requirements:
  • Reasonably modern PC (Pentium 4 / Athlon64 or above) running a 32 Bit version of Windows XP. It may work under Windows 2000, but it is untested. 64 bit versions are not supported, as well as Windows Vista. I would like to provide a Vista version but it will probably never happen due to the changes in the display driver model regarding multi-monitor support.
Installation
  • Windows application, drivers, etc.
  • Download the installer below and execute it.
  • When it comes to the display driver installation, Windows will warn you that the driver is unsigned, let the setup program install it anyway.
  • After setup has finished, open your display settings and enable the new monitor then move it to the position you like.
  • Connect your PSP and copy the files from the "psp" folder in the installation directory to the memory stick.

 » THIS IS AMAZING

Best homebrew app of the year, and its only v0.1

This could really take off into something amazing. Already, its the only way to watch .mkv on my PSP ;)

With increased refresh speeds, this will be one of the best applications in the history of PSP.

» Nice but i see the point

computer for this to work ?

LOADING Usbhostfs.prx...Failed any ideas as to whats wrong?

   by beefsupreme - 2008-10-07
 » Outstanding!

I had to make an account just to comment. this is amazing! I 5-box WoW and use a second monitor for AIM, rather than alt-tabbing or taking up valuable real-estate. A whole monitor for IMs feels like such a waste, and having this right above my keyboard would be way, way ideal. I've got an Everglide DKTboard, a DeathAdder, and a n52te (they match) all on my lap, from my couch, facing a 60" tv. The PSP right here in my lap would top this whole setup off. Cannot wait. I'd be happy to donate to the cause. Thanks so much. Amazing.

» Some tips to get it working

After you install the software and drivers remember to enable your PSP as a secondary display in your display properties. Click on the settings tab and check the box that says "Extend my windows desktop onto this device". Then connect your PSP to your computer and launch the homebrew. It'll sync up and you'll have a tiny second monitor. You might have to enable and configure from the tray icon to get the best results.

 » How to Install

OK it's some what Easy If Not super Easy to Install BUT as it's still some what a beta it Has errors that May confuse you.

1. Get the PSPdisp v0.1 (PC installer) As it will Be easier for you

2. After you have Ran and installed the .exe Go into C:Program FilesPSPdispbinpspPSPGAME And copy the PSPdisp folder into the PSP memoryStick GAME Folder

3. This Next Step Is a Big One, If your useing CXMB Dissable it (The error LOADING Usbhostfs.prx...Failed) is from CXMB.

4. Connect your USB to PC then go to
Start/Program Files/PSPdisp and Run that.

5. On PSP run the PSPdisp

6. the Pc will Find New device select the Drivers that's in
C:Program FilesPSPdispbindriver_usb
(IF you have Say RemoteJoy or Any program/Plugin that Uses Usbhostfs you will Not see the Install drivers)

7. On your PC right click on Desktop and got to Properties/settings
Where you see the display Pick the PSP and Pick the Box Extend My windows desktop onto this Monitor

8. Right click on the PSPdisp Icon in the Bottom right and click on enable, All Done Now move your Mouse to the right Till you see it on the PSP (Now you can play with it's settings)

If you Have Any problems Try disabling All plugins you have enabled, Or try a Different USB port.

 » also don't forget

to reboot ur pc if it continues to give you errors just reboot the pc you are using. I just hope they come out with an update so that you can use multiple psp's as screens. I have FOUR psp's that I wouldn't mind using as screens. Best thing about this is I have a wireless keyboard and a 50foot usb cable. Now I can just close the craptop and have this next to me. just gotta zoom in the fonts a bit to make it readable(is that a word?)

   by deejaydark - 2008-10-08
 » cool

i finally got it working and i would have to say nice job :) it was awesome watching youtube on the psp screen now only if we could watch it from the browser lol i wish but other than that nice work

 » THIS IS REALLY ANNOYING!

I still keep getting the UsbHostfs.prx... FAILED Could not load USB driver exiting in 5

I disabled that dam CXMB.prx along with all my other plugins. i ran the psp just like it was normal from the box only with CFW 4.01 M33-2 its a Phat psp 1001 to be exact
only thing i can think of other than being a bug in the homebrew file is that possibly its from the way i currently got my homebrew folders set up *maybe* i dont know maybe not cause ive got the eboot in the original PSP/GAME folder

» HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

ONCE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING DOWNLOADED. YOU NEED TO GO TO THE FOLDER OF DRIVER_USB, YOU'LL THEN SEE THE FLE USBHOSTFS.PRX. YOU NEED TO PUT THAT FILE IN THE ROOT OF YOUR PSP MEMORY CARD. I HAVE IT BOTH IN THE PSP/GAME/PSPDSP/ FOLDER ASWELL IF THAT'S WHAT ELSE IS NEEDED. START UP THE GAME, IT'LL LOAD. THEN OPEN UP THE PROGRAM ON THE COMPUTER AND VOALA. PC TO PSP :D

DID YOU GET IT HYPNOTIZE?

» how to fix the usbhostfs error

I had that same problem and none of the other remedys helped. I think it is that i have 4.01m33-2 but anyways i just used time machine with the 3.40oe-a and it ran without a hitch. and if you get the libusb0.dll error on your computer it is because you havent installed the psp type b driver. it worked for me and i hope it helps everyone else who has problems!

Hello guys
First thanks for this app it's great.
But I have a small problem I can launch without problem but it's not going fast. I mean screen doesn't load fat like 1 frame each 30 or each 1 min :s
Maybe it's because I have the 3.71 M33 firmware (psp-1000). I don't know ? do I have to update the firmware for it works well. somebody have the same firmware and it's working well ? I already change of usb port but it has changed nothink
Thanks

   by thaq93 - 2008-10-12
» this is a great app!

this is very cool but who would watch a video on their psp when they are right next to the monitor. the usb cable is only 5ft. it would be great if it was wireless, then you could watch vids from pc on ur psp anywhere in ur house.

   by mmhmmh - 2008-10-16
» how to bypass the usbhostfs error

Dudes, the usbhostfs error is not cos' of cxmb or any other crap, you have to change your kernel from 1.50 to 3.xx/4.xx by going into the recovery mode
peace up, by the way I am only a 13 year old boy from england but my method still works.
