A new custom firmware patch has recently surfaced. Homebrew developer Yellow_Rain dropped by the QJ.NET PSP Development forum and informed us that a new patch based on the 3.90 M33 build can now be downloaded and installed into your PlayStation Portable.

This unofficial patch, based on the most recent custom firmware released by Dark AleX, contains a reversed and updated popcorn.prx. Also, a hex-edited vshctrl.prx and a new GetVersion opcode were both updated in this new build.

The developer has tested and confirmed that CFW 3.93 M33 works for both the classic and Slim PSP. Please take note that it only flashes the changed modules, so make sure that you have CFW 3.90 M33-2 installed on your handheld before running the patch.

To give you a better idea of how to install this new custom firmware into your handheld, here's a video showing off the installation process. As always, make sure to thoroughly read the documentation included in the program before installing it.

UPDATE:

Thanks to a tip from JumpR, we've recently learned that Yellow_Rain has updated the patch readme and the application itself so that it states more clearly that it's only a patch and not a new firmware.

That being said, we've renamed and edited the above post and reuploaded the file so there's no confusion. Enjoy!

 » ok

this is cool and i really like to stay up with the latest CF so i will probably install this. and since it is based off of Dark_Alex's work i don't feel like i am abandoning him.

P.S. 1st post!!!

sorry is this is considered spamming, but i need everyone here to check out this website at your school... i want to know if it's blocked there...

www.gxkingdom.com

(don't worry its an arcade site :P)

That site's not that cool.

Even better is www.swatcash.com/admin

They give out cash regularly for doing surveys, and now they've got a contest this month where you can win a wii (or cash prizes up to $250!). And every month they have a different contest.

By the way, anyone else think that Dark Alex may one day find a way to run a CFW update straight off a memory stick.

In other words, like make it in such a way that you can run an update on a OFW PSP, but have it coded in such a way (I guess signed and encrypted) that the PSP thinks it's a real OFW.

Wouldn't that be cool? I mean I know all about Pandora, but I mean what if there was a way for those who didn't want to do pandora?

I wasn't sarcasm. THERE IS NO BIG DIFFENCE ON 3.93. Just stupid radio player and pops that does not play MGS or SPYRO. If I was you people, I wait for Dark_AleX's update since this patch is full of bugs.

Spyro the Dragon 2 - Ripto's Rage : SCUS-94425
Metal Gear Solid : SLPM-86111

After installing this update... Both games lead to a Blank screen after the Manual Warning and then shuts off!

That is most likely due to he has wrongly hex edited the code in one of the prx could be other reason but its most likely to be that

I had a lot of games that "performed" that way under 3.90. They work fine w/ Popsloader running under 3.71 mode (thanks to PSARdumper). I've pretty much given up on getting these particular games to run on anything after that.

You may want to consider the hassle of adding some versatility to your popsloader?

P.S. I have a slim

is this guy out of his mind. does he really think that he draw away loyal Dax cfw users away from Dax?? ANd he thinks he can do that with some dodgy cfw which he made up just for the fun of it? oh well... hes got another thing coming. We Dax users will never use anything that isnt....Dax. Right? oh well... i m waiting for the proper Dax update...even if i die waiting. Lol, being too dramatic.

   Re: M33 User - 2008-03-20
 » Right

He doesn't have a 3.93 kernal so this is really 3.93. Good update but I will stick to 3.90 M33-2. Maybe you should work on the entire firmware because there are come things that change like having a faster XMB w/out the 3.71 fatmsmod.

   Re: ajnauron - 2008-03-21
 » M33

Oh yes...people always have issues with non-M33 updates. Thats what they get for using firmwares made by people other than DAX.

Yellow_Rain, I respect the fact that your trying to help out the community. I have friends who will be installing this, they need the latest firmware to use PS3 connectivity and you my friend made that possible. A few minor errors are not a biggy, even the golden standard have revisions, its a fact of life. Nothing can ever be perfect(as is evident with stock FW) and you can always revise your coding. Keeping chugging away and keep working hard. there are people who apreciate it, those who dont, well they can f*ck off...

sorry yellow rain. I was being a dck b4. i didnt mean to hurt ur feelings. I now understand that u just want to help out which is really appreciated by all of us. I think that u did a great job for ur first cfw and i thank you for ur efforts. srry guys for being a dck. I spoke to dax and he made me realise wat my mistake was. thanks for ur mean comments because they opened my eyes.

 » Yo just curious-

I just wanna ask....after putting this cfw on my psp....will i be able to switch back to my 3.90 m33 2 or do i have to use a downgrader? any help will be greatly appreciated.

   by snakeboy - 2008-03-21
 » If it ain't broken....

How many of you dimwits upgrade because you actually have a legitimate NEED to?

Or are you the kind of person who just HAS to have the latest version number, even though it makes absolutely no tangible difference to the tasks you perform on your PSP?

I guarantee you the ratio is probably around 10% - who can actually benefit from the changes this PATCH makes to 3.90 M33-2. The rest will probably convince yourselves that your games are suddenly running faster or something...

This isn't even a "new firmware" !!! Yet people don't want to use it because they want to show their loyalty to DA and his firmwares!? How stupid. This is a PATCH you retards, NOT A NEW FIRMWARE...

Have you ever heard the phrase "If it ain't broken, don't fix it"? .... Well since for 90% of you, your PSP activities will remain ABSOLUTELY unchanged after installing this _patch_, perhaps you should first determine whether or not you actually need these changes or not.

   Re: sourav93 - 2008-03-21
 » and ur point is....

so wat r u really trying to say? so r u saying we shouldn't use the patch or we should us it? We all know tht this isnt a real cfw. But there aint any harm makin it look like 1. i do agree with u in some spaces about the thing that nothing will change. It is the same darn thing as 3.90 m33 2. All i m saying is if u dnt like this patch, pls do not discourage other ppl to use. let every1 be a free thinker.

» thats what pandora is for

install anything u want and try it out and if u dont like it can always go back to previous cfw

   Re: NemesisDTP - 2008-03-29
 » i understand u...

Good job on the patch Yellow_Rain!
Keep Working at it!

As for what snakeboy said is that ppl are flaming each other for no good reason.

This should be used by ppl who are actually in need of the patch, and its pointless right now for most of you cuz firmware changes are only to mess up game compatability and most games need 3.52 and new games need 3.80.

Dont flame someone trying to help!

I'm gonna stick with DAX, in case he releases a 3.92 m33
than i couldnt upgrade,

if i have backups of my flash0 on 3.90 m33, and then i upgrade, could i downgrade by just re-flashing?????

yeah, but how would you re-flash it?

   Re: CrYpT-WeeD - 2008-03-21

still can upgrade when dax makes new cfw cuz all u need is a psp with a cfw to begin with and if all else fails use pandora

Can this be put on 3.90 ofw? I mistakenly updated mine from ofw 3.71 to ofw 3.90 and got kicked in the @ss. Can't play anymore from mem stick :(

   Re: ajnauron - 2008-03-23
 » you need custom firmware

You'll need to downgrade to 3.90 M33-2 before you can do this. You need someone with a homebrew-capable PSP to create a Pandora Battery and jigkick memory stick, then you'll be able to run homebrew.

   Re: NemesisDTP - 2008-03-29
» RE: you need custom firmware

i am sure you ment downgrade to 1.50 and then upgrade to 3.90 M33-2 ;]

and yes you need a psp that can run 1.50 EBOOTS (aka Custom Firware Capable PSP)

nice to see new coders coming out to help build cfw ,seriously u ppl(i mean the people who supposedly "trust" DAX more) should realize that when DAX leaves and i mean leaves FOR GOOD we need coders to keep cfw and homebrew alive

A firmware that uses IRshell etc. with little or no bugs or glitches, any suggestions? How is DAX's time machine? I'm getting annoyed with how buggy/slow 3.90 is in certain apps. Also, does Infared work in IRshell on 390 M33? I wanted to try my 360/ps3 controller on it..Thanks in advance for any help
