It's one thing to know you've got great competition, it's another to admit that they're doing much better than you. That's exactly what Peter Moore did in his interview with Industry Gamers, when he admitted that 2K Sports is doing much better than his EA Sports. He's not gonna sit and watch his guys eat some 2K dust though, he and his crew are "working very, very diligently" to close the gap that 2K made between them. Citing the two competing publishers' NBA franchises as an indication, Peter Moore acknowledges their shortcomings and is in gear to do much better: We obviously have continued work to do on NBA Live. We did get a 2-3 point increase on Metacritic year-on-year last year. The 2K guys do a great basketball game; we recognize that and give them credit where credit's due. At the same time, our team knows what they need to do to continue to close the gap between the two of us. That's what they're working on very, very diligently right now. Last year, NBA Live got 77 on Metacritic, which is seven points below NBA 2K9 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360). NBA Live 10 (Xbox 360, PS3, PSP) producer Sean O'Brien has already promised improvements for the next Live title, promising that the 2010 installment will mark the franchise's comeback. Well, love them or hate them, a better EA Sports lineup would keep 2K Sports on its toes, so the closer that competition becomes, the better we'll be seeing out of both of them. So here's to hoping that EA Sports delivers on that promise, and here's to better gaming. More on EA's climb: |

"our team knows what they need to do to continue to close the gap between the two of us."
I wouldn't be surprised if this involves some sort of exclusive contract...

» better not...
i like how EA is trying to turn it's image around...
instead of purchasing exclusive rights, they actually try to make a better game... what a concept.

EA's been admitting for about the last year they been pushing their developers too hard and game quality is suffering, it looks like this is all part of EA just wanting to improve it's image and not look like the monster conglomerate we all see them as.

» EA in my eyes
are trying to make things right. They have given us two great new IPs Mirrors Edge and Dead Space and taken up Brutal Legend after Activision dropped it. Activision in my eyes is becoming the "monster conglomerate" after taking the top spot from EA. It seems that top spot is what makes ***holes out of companies.

Would be freeing up their monopoly on the NFL brand game to bring some new competition to the field. That would be a start to making things right.

» nfl gameday return
that'd be great. that was my all time favorite football game. the graphics were great and it was pretty much straight up football.
i hated madden and 2k was alright but a lil too gimmicky.

EA didn't approach NFL rather it was the opposite. Not sure what the NFL wanted, they could have made more money with both games selling or maybe not since it just split between EA and 2K instead.
But fact is EA still bought into the exclusive license. But also the fact is EA was not seeking for an exclusive license until NFL brought up the idea.

» Maybe the NFL did approach.
I've just been blinded by anger at EA/NFL ever since.

Don't believe every press release you read, EA knows an exclusive licence is a licence to print money but they also know monopoly laws could eventually cover these deals.
