PiMPStreamer

The ever-innovative DickyDick1969 has once again updated his PiMPStreamer homebrew application. If you aren't familiar with this app, it is actually a mod of another mod - the popular PMP Mod, and DickyDick1969's creation features wireless streaming of video to your PSP.

According to the homebrew developer, he managed to get rid of a few pesky bugs and tested the infinite stream stuff...and yes it did not work in 0.55, but now it properly picks up the file. And also he says that it "now also 'minimize to system tray' and support for >1000 mp3 files in a directory. For the new features be sure to install both psp and windoze software…"

And of course, there is always room for improvement. According to DickyDick, there is still a bug to solve- "if you want to time skip it, it has to be in original frame rate mode." So since he is not planning on abandoning the PiMPStreamer project soon, constructive opinions and even criticisms are always welcome.

Thanks, sinX, for the heads up!

 » O LAWD THE CHRASHES

This has been happening with all the PiMP Streamer version.

I will launch the Windoze part first, and then launch PiMP Streamer on my PSP and it goes through the connection states and when it get to the "Current stream directory" screen it just freezes, but this only happens if I have the windoze portion running. If I dont have it running it simply says it cant connect and shuts down.

Anyone else have this, or anyone know how to fix it?

you have to make a VIDEO folder inside the PSP folder

that can give errors if you dont have that.

also.. Make sure that your ini file is set up properly

Any chance this will work when your router uses Wpa Tkip security?
Because 1.5 Firmware does not support Wpa security....
Anyone know a way to make it work?

Greetzzz!

 » error after initializing

well after going through state 3 of 4 connection and i get the now browsing current directory, nothing shows up and then it shuts down my psp
is this a bug??? do i need to create a VIDEO folder inside my PSP memory card? will it be at root directory or under GAME

   by trippn (Unregistered) - 2006-06-06
 » under game

put the video folder inside of game
*/PSP/GAME/VIDEO

   by lukahn - 2006-06-06
 » Thumbs up.

Very good stuff. I put a VIDEO folder in all the directories just to make sure. All that needs changing now is support for other codecs(like .ogm), and i'll never have to convert video to psp again :)

 » Empty directory

It connects fine, but it only shows a empty diretory list and the crashes. The previous versions work fine(0.5), so the router and windows config is ok.

It doesnt even work on my LAN.

Any thoughts ?

» 6.0 windoze server on 5.0 psp client?

same here. my psp shuts down after "Current stream directory" screen. reverted back to 5.0.

now my question is, can i use the version 6.0 windoze (server) on the pc and use the 5.0 (client) on the psp? the 6.0 version server is much nicer because you can add more folders in the media path plus you can minimize the program to system tray.

 » yes

Yeah it works fine. I used the .55 server with the old .5 client. And this version of windoze works fine too.

 » cant connect

I cant get this one to connect... I've tried making the video folder ms0:PSPVIDEO, it didnt help... so it must not be connecting, even though I have it set up properly with the ports forwarded and everything...

 » FIX!

Big problem just solved!
My PSP reset whenever the connection was made!
If you have this bug just goto the directory PSP and make a folder called “VIDEO” = PSP/VIDEO. That should fix it.

   by mutejute (Unregistered) - 2006-06-06
 » /PSP/VIDEO is the solution!

thanks man! thats the right solution. create a VIDEO folder or directory in PSP folder (not in /PSP/GAME). now its working fine. im watching Lost right now. thanks a million!

what about direct pc/laptop -> PSP streaming?
yeah, ad-hoc connection would rock, especially if you have a laptop with wifi and dont wanna buy a wifi router, or if you take your laptop to work or vacations and want to use pimpstreamer =`]

» one of the Best Homebrew of the year

I love it!

   by Dacvak - 2006-06-07
 » Explanation

This is by far the best PSP Homebrew ever created. (Even better than the 2.5 emulator).

This is what the PSP was created for.. Not the *****ty games that have been released. =P

And just so everyone is very clear, here is how you get this program to run:

THIS ONLY WORKS ON PSPs WITH THE 1.5 FIRMWARE!

Extract the files somewhere on your computer. Copy both PIMPSTREAMER folders into your GAME folder, like any other homebrew.

In the folder PiMPSTREAMERV201 (without the %) there is a file called pmp.ini . Open this file and change the IP address to your computer's IP address. Keep the port on 3333. (I went into my router settings and opened that port, but I'm not sure if it's necessary.)

After you have modified the pmp.ini file, create a folder named VIDEO on your memory card right here: "~root~/PSP/VIDEO" (So just in your normal PSP folder)

Finally, open up the Windoze folder that was extracted, and run the Pimpstreamer exe file. Add the folders that you want to stream and minimize the program. (You might want to make sure the port is 3333 on the program, as well.)

There you go! It should then work like a charm.

-------------------------------

Here's a couple tips and tricks, too. Set your bitrate for about 400 or lower, and the audio at 128 or 96. This will let you stream faster with less lag and interruptions. Leave this program running all the time, because you never know when you have to take a huge dump. =P

Finally, DONATE to this guy! This is seriously a breakthrough for the homebrew scene. Absolutely the best application out there. Give this guy a couple bucks, it won't break you!

» What am I doing wrong?

Ok I have firmware 1.5 ... newest pimpstreamer .62

I have made a folder on my mem card at F:PSPVIDEO

I have added directories to the Windoz app

I have update the ini file to look for my ip address (and not the 192.168.1.1 one but the actual PC's one)

I keep getting the following error on PSP...

Current stream directory: " "Error connection to host 68.xxx.xxx.89:3333 "ms0:/PSP/VIDEO/" not found or empty, or host not connected

Any help??

Also would it work to put in a name instead of the IP address ... like me.no-ip.com (using the no-ip.com ip redirect) ??

Thanks

Oh BTW - PC is XP machine
