PlayStation Network card - Image 1Pop the cork open: the PlayStation Network cards for North America are here! Well, they've been here for quite some time now, actually, but they've been pretty hard to find in their hide-and-seek game with the consumers.

A friendly blogger by the name Mana Knight posted all about his little (mis-)adventure with the PSN cards.

See, he actually had quite a bit of trouble activating the credits online via the PlayStation Store at first (both on the PS3 and PC), but after enough running around the bee line of customer service, he finally got the card working.

Now here's an interesting bit: through his course of talking with PSN representatives, he was asked where he got his PSN card. It was confirmed that (as Mana Knight puts it): "Meijer IS the only retailer currently selling the card right now."

Of course, the term "currently" might get your hopes up. This suggests that there might be a possibility that the highly elusive cards would eventually land in other retail outlets like Gamestop, Best Buy, Target, or Wal-Mart.

So there you have it.

Now, you (especially if you live in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, or Ohio - since those are the only states that have Meijer stores) don't have to ask your parents for their credit cards in order to get some online credit for the PS Store.

Time to start downloading those games on your PS3 and/or PSP with impunity! Well, until your online credit runs dry, at least.

» If they're out, then shouldn't Sony have been promoting these?

I'm surprised that Sony hasn't been promoting the cards to both retailers and consumers considering they are available now.

IMO, Sony's biggest mistake with the PSN was not releasing these cards within a few months of the PS3's initial release. PSN could have been a fair bit bigger and better if they had.
Once the video DL service comes, I think PSN activity will pick up a bit though, so these cards should help.

i buy these for my 360 ALL THE TIME! Sony would probably make A LOT more money off of the PSN if they sold these everywhere.

» surely good news for the younger ones

But I had my credit card hum... around 4 years ago, I'm now 22. (I don't know if it's 21 is the US, but in canada, where I'm from, it's 18, surely the same for the US I'd gess). So this news is not really for me I suppose.

Anyway, it's good also for those who have parents that disliked videogames (hum.. let's make an average of 99%?). It's like iTunes cards.
