It should be remembered that during the first week of February, we reported on an unfortunate incident involving the Sony PlayStation Portable and a 12-year old boy from Farmington Hills, Michigan.

Unfortunately, the handheld in the boy's pocket suddenly caught fire causing second degree burns on the kid. After weeks of investigations, officials say that the incident was due to a third-party charger which overheated the PSP.

The charger in question was from the company Pelican. Although the family of the boy is not keen on filing a lawsuit, representatives from both Sony and Pelican will be going to Michigan to further investigate the matter.

Lt. Denny Hughes of the Farmington Hills Fire Department added that while further investigations are still necessary, the said charger is the most obvious source of the problem. "I think it overheated the unit by overcharging it," added Hughes.

Lastly, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has become interested in the incident and said that it will look into the matter as well. The commission added that there are no plans to recall PSP units at this point.
