The latest episode of the 1Up podcast has dropped the bomb on the rumor mill about two Square Enix franchises. Firstly, we could possibly expect more news and announcements about the fabled Kingdom Hearts prequels coming out. They've speculated about the rumor before, saying that the KH prequels would be acting like what Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core are for the FFVII universe. On a related note, Crisis Core gets a bit of mention in itself - and a hint of what to expect in the FFVII franchise's future.

Shane, editor of EGM, had said something rather specific toward the last fifth of the podcast. It took a while to catch it, as it is very brief. Especially since the whole podcast runs for almost two hours, trying to catch that 5-second mention of KH is pretty tough. Right after talking about the FFVII-remake rumors sparked by the Crisis Core ending cinematic, they went off at a tangent, somehow squeezing in something about the Kingdom Hearts prequel (1:25:50 mark):

The other big announcement that you should look forward to is Kingdom Hearts Zero... for PSP... among some other Kingdom Hearts Zero games for other platforms...

They exchanged a couple of "Hmm..."s and "Hrrrmmm..."s by the time Shane ends his KH stint, but that's pretty much it. The way the whole thing sounds, it's as if it's only a matter of time before it gets confirmed.

Meanwhile, for those keeping tabs on the FFVII-remake rumors, Shane mentions that, during the Square Enix party, they found out that Crisis Core is not the last game in the FFVII universe. So what's the next FF7 game? Could it be the remake of the original itself? Or something else entirely? Oh no, wait. Don't tell me. It's Kingdom Hearts: Crisis Core! Ha! We jest.

A lot has been going on lately in the video gaming industry, and fortunately The PSP Show's  been keeping abreast of things.

This latest show podcast (#49) will be delving into some the week's more timely topics, specifically on the matter of Sony's insurance scheme for the PSP, as well as a review of the commercial release of Codemaster's Heatseeker game - the latter is a follow-up to the show's previously conducted interview.

Lastly, this podcast will also tackle the topic of Manhunt 2, focusing on the game's ongoing censorship and withdrawals woes, and how these incidents may impact the industry as a whole. The latest episode of the Podcast Network's The PSP Show is now out and waiting to assault your ears with some PSP news. The podcast includes some news regarding software and hardware sales in Japan, with the top story being Monster Hunter Portable 2nd moving over 750,000 units.

Some guests also get airtime, with Brian Ibbot of TPN's Today in Music History giving a short review of his new Silver PSP (Ibbot says it's good as a backup unit, not as a main one). Mark Hunter, from TPN's The Mellow Monday Show, also introduces his new PS3-centric podcast appropriately called the Playstation 3 show. The podcast also touches a bit on the PSP-PS3 connectivity.

And The PSP Show continues on with the show as it comes out with episode #34, this time featuring their review for Eidos' Chili Con Carnage. And that ain't all they've got to talk about. Also mentioned in the bit was the release of Monster Hunter Portable in Japan, and how well-received it was there on its first day.

Anyway, if you find entertainment in bad jokes, then number one, something must be wrong with you, and two, well, you'll get a pretty healthy dose of that right in this episode. But all that's supposedly in context with the review. Cos actually, that's the kind of humor you'd get in the game: "grown, cringe-worthy, inducing humor".

Here's the latest from The PSP Show. It's now on its 33rd episode and talks of quite a lot of things you guys might be interested in. It starts with reminders of the Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror demo being released this week, as well as the Ratchet & Clank issues with some homebrew. While those were only mentioned in passing, the real bulk of the show concerns Every Extend Extra (recently released in UK).

The host playfully tries to pronounce the designer for E3, and to quote: "It's coming from... Mezuts... zume-zush... mezkiym, Tetsuya." Well, not bad. We're sure Testsuya Mizuguchi gets that all the time. But as for the game review itself, the host basically describes it as "a lovely, cute game" where your sole purpose is to go BOOM and get "oodles and oodles of points."

The gist is there, true. And for some of you guys (especially in North America) who have already played the game for months now, it's still interesting to hear this guy talk about the game from his perspective. And hey!, finally I know why the game is called such. Call me a dork, but I never figured it out that way. Anyways, as reviews go, he talks about the pros and cons. "It looks wonderful, it sounds wonderful" but you're pretty much under a lot of randomness. Well, to each his own.

Ewan Spence jumps straight to talking to Steve Lycett, veteran PSP title producer, who is currently busying himself with TOCA Race Driver 3 Challenge. (Actually, he's with Sumo Digital, but Codemasters is publishing TOCA, so he's not exactly a Codemasters dev, but he is devving something for them. Semantics. Maybe we should have changed the title of this article to "all Steve Lycett and TOCA Race Driver, all the time," then, but we didn't want to spoil the suspense.)

As game producer, Steve should be able to give some lowdown on "behind-the-game," especially working with the PSP. The last time we talked about Ewan Spence's PSP Show podcast, my compatriot Rica M. mistakenly heard "guilty pleasure" as "guilty pressure." The only guilty pressure she now knows of is the one where we mention the phrase in passing to her, followed by the pressure being applied to my Rica-inflicted stab wound to stop the bleeding.

The 27th episode of The PSP Show deals a lot with one of the best shows ever seen on the Discovery Channel, and we're not talking about the Mythbusters here, folks. Lonely Planet's where it's at, and they actually have PSP media of their own. Europe got the benefit of the Passport to... series, which acts as a travelogue of sorts for specific destinations across Europe. With a rating of "Damn, it could have been better," you can pretty much guess where that review will be headed.

In addition to his review of the handheld travelogue series, he also takes some time to answer the questions and comments made in episode 26, which you can listen to by following the source link below. Lest we forget, he also talks about the Killzone Liberation demo, and downloading a demo from a fan site.

UK's Channel 4 will be the first broadcaster to make radio content available wirelessly on PSPs when it sends daily updates from its new season of "Celebrity Big Brother".

According to the company, the move will help 4Radio connect with PSP users - a young, mobile audience - by making its programming available whenever and wherever they want. The initial content, which also includes Channel 4 News and music programming, will be delivered in podcast form.

The "Celebrity Big Brother" podcast features a daily round-up of the antics in the house plus extra interviews, news, opinions and highlights, of the show.

Aside from "Celebrity Big Brother", Channel 4 also offers other "everything you love about Channel 4 television but now as radio programmes." These podcasts cover anything from showbiz gossips, physical fitness, book clubs, and the hit TV show "Lost". PSP users can access the updates by connecting to a Channel 4 portal from any of 7,500 Wi-Fi locations throughout the UK. In the future, PSPs are expected to access not just audio but TV broadcasts.

There are emulators, there's the Sega Genesis Collection, and then there are emulators (again). Sigh... Don't get us wrong, we like playing retro games, and we're thankful for all the effort being made by the homebrew community to bring us hacks of titles we've always enjoyed, then there's the Virtual Console and PlayStation Store for the next-gen consoles.

Even with Sega's console development now virtually non-existent, we still see the resurfacing of their classics in the many emulations, both official and unofficial. But it still begs the question: don't you ever wish the original devs would actually make a sequel to some of our beloved titles?
