project starfighter

Deniska, who brought us the 2d PSP homebrew FPS Kill Everything that Moves (vividly descriptive title, don't you think?), has released Project Starfighter V1.1. The game is a PSP adaptation of the open source Project Starfighter game from Parallel Realities. Project Starfighter is a horizontal space shooter with RPG elements. The homebrew's pretty cool, the aircarft's movements are quite fluid, and the opposing spaceships are really challenging to destroy. Here are the game details provided by Deniska:

Features:
  • 26 missions over 4 star systems
  • Primary and Secondary Weapons (including a laser cannon and a charge weapon)
  • A weapon power up system
  • Wingmates
  • Missions with Primary and Secondary Objectives
  • A Variety of Missions (Protect, Destroy, etc)
  • 13 different music tracks
  • Boss battles
(Some of game's graphics has been modified for better display on PSP's screen)

Installation guides:
  • 1.5 Users: Copy contents of 1.5 folder to ms:/PSP/GAME
  • 1.0 Users: EBOOT.PBP from 1.0 folder with data files from 1.5 folder
  • 2.0 Users: (Please inform Deniska if either version works with the latest eboot loader for 2.0 firmware)
Controls:
  • [X] Menu Select; Primary Weapon
  • [TRIANGLE] Secondary Weapon
  • [ARROWS] Menu Navigation
  • [ANALOG] Ship Navigation; Cursor Navigation
  • [L-TRIGGER] Pause
  • [R-TRIGGER] Enemy Direction Display Toggle
  • [???] Activate Cheats Menu & Game Credits ( “I'll let you figure this one out,” says Deniska)
Source:

PSPSDK compatible c++ source code & makefile are attached to this distribution.

Finally Deniska wants to give credit where credit is due: Stephen Sweeney (Main Programming and Design), Richard Sweeney (Additional Programming) and Dennis Televnyy (PSP adaptation Programming).

Works great on 2.01 with eLoader 0.97, used the 1.5 eboots (but I "unKXploited" it), but the archive is missing gfx/barrier.gif, other than that, I've had no crash issues, and the only slowdowns are in the asteriod areas, when 3 or more asteriods explode onscreen at once, and the completion screens need some re-mapping, the "Completed" messages are about 12 pixels off to the lower (meaning it's ~12 pixels lower down than the message it's refering to)
