PSP - Image 1

For those of us eagerly anticipating the release of Auraomega's homebrew XMB replacement for the Sony PlayStation Portable, Project4, then here's some bad news: it seems that the development of this very nifty piece of homebrew code has ground to a halt, and from the looks of things, it's not going to continue anytime soon. Ouch.

So why has development stopped? Here's a quote direct from Auraomega himself:

Project4 is likely to stop development now as earlier today the source codes were lost. While developing at college, my memory card went missing, this memory card had the only Project4 source codes on it, and quite obviously its taken 6 months to reach this stage in development, I can't really constitute another 2 months to just get back to this level.

There you have it. With the memory card missing (and still lost, after Auraomega himself made another sweep of his college to try and retrieve it), the chances of the homebrew scene getting access to the Project4 Open Beta 3 version is slim.

But there's still a chance, however. Auraomega says that he has a Closed Beta 3 version of Project4 uploaded, but the normal user is locked out from it. He's not promising anything, but if the code still doesn't turn up, he'll have to remove the lock via a HEX editor or a disassembler. Good luck to him on that.

Get off your *** (actually, sit your *** down), and code something yourself. And maybe next time, don't judge a program by it's first release...? I'm sure if you saw the first prototype of ANY program, you would find it useless. You know the internet started out as text only, right? It improved, though, didn't it?

Dude you really have no clue...

Your 14yr old, you have no skill as a coder
not to mention that you've never tried to
code before yet you think you have the right
to call somebody else's work "waste of time".

What are you a first child. If thats the case
I would be correct in saying that by your
way of thinking that your mom's first piece
of work (You) was a "waste of time" and
that she shouldn't try going back to the
drawing board and start over because the
first version of you was a piece of $h!t!

If you can't appreciate something somebody
has done or made and has spent alot of time working on then you should keep your
F U C K ing mouth shut

This calls for two websites!

1. bmxadan.justgotowned.com

And since you'll probably want your lost time back, go to www.swatcash.com/admin and fill out a few surveys to get some cash. True fact: I've made over $300 (not to mention a free DS Lite, and my soon to be delivered xbox 360 elite!) since August 2007 from

swatcash.com/admin !!!

Something similar did happen awhile back, during the pre-pandora era. His modchip got destroyed or something, and his PSP bricked ;p

But he secretly had a beta of pandora, and I think he fixed it from that.

You kept the ONLY source of a 6 month project on a MEMORY CARD? Seriously? ...

Seriously? Wow.

I bet you'll never forget to back up a project again, eh?

 » That sucks

From what I've heard, it had some real promise to allow someone like me to tailor make their XMB to their needs, and in my case that would have been especially useful.

It would make things faster and using homebrew more convenient.

i never really liked the first release but i was hoping for it to get better. well i guess that ain't gonna happen.

this is why everyone should host their project on google code or sourceforge and use subversion to commit/update so your code will never be lost

This sounds like an excuse to bail on the project.

Ok, either I am taking some obvious troll bait here, or you're some kind of noob...

See, the thing is, is that in order to make version 5, he's gotta have the foundation from version 4. Which is what the problem is. There is no version 4 lying around!

See, people don't magically start anew when they upgrade a project. They either add new stuff to their existing project ("minor upgrades"), or they start anew for the most part, while incorporating "all the stuff that worked good enough" from their previous version(s). Rarely does a person completely start a project anew from scratch. Sure, some companies do it, but that's because they've got the resources to do it. This guy/girl does not, as he/she is going to college, and as such has no free time to begin with (assuming [s]he's actually worried about good grades ;p)
