PSPIf you've been following our coverage of bkclog's homebrew emulator QUASI88, you've probably noticed that his previous updates on this emu have been beta releases.

This time though, bkclog is proud to announce that "the plan to run QUASI88 0.6.1 on the PSP has been completed." Meaning, you won't be seeing any more beta releases fellas 'cuz this is THE real thing -- QUASI88 0.6.1 Release 1!

If this is your first time to have heard of QUASI88 and are feeling a bit lost as to what exactly we're talking about here, let us give you a brief primer: QUASI88 is a homebrew emulator developed by bcklog that allows your PSP to emulate the vintage NEC-made computer, PC-8801. Oh boy, now I can emulate the PC-8801!

Anyone else feel people seem to be emulating things just for the sake of emulating them?

Who really cares that you can emulate this?

 » uh??

right - on my psp i can emulate -

PS1 (virtually perfect), Neo Geo + Neo Geo CD (pretty much perfect)
N64 (slowly), SNES (bit faster)
Sega Megadrive (perfect)

a load of 8bit machine pretty much perfect

so what does this do? where can i get the games for it?

and comparitivly where does this machine slot into the list of top notch emulators above?

they are retorical questions i know this and that
other emulator just posted are pointless crap..

i just wonder why they bother making these emulators, i personnally haven't got all day to play games so im just going to play stuff thats good - ie produced within the last 15 years or so,

why anyone wants to play a ZX81, spectrum, msx, amstrad, this thing, atari 2600 or basically anything before a Nes or mastersytem is beyond me, even before 16bit is pushing it nowdays -

people say its nostalgia -

but how do you go from a kickass games with topnotch graphix and sound of XBox 360/PS3 or our very own PSP to the sprity block sh_t_y screachy games of yesteryear??

i dont know!! i think the people who play this crap must still be walking round with one of those crappy old green screen nokias with snake on it

i know you'll all moan about this bit but hey - i dont care about people desperatly trying to hang on to there youth,

im 35, and have been playing games/computers/consoles since i got one of those Grandstand things in about 1978 so believe me i know retro aint all that -

which would you rather watch? Spiderman made in th 70's or spiderman made in the 2000's???

hahahaha I just know some sad git is going to say the 70's one :)

I've already thought about what you said. Sometimes it's just nice for a programmer to make something they're proud of and then share it with other people. If at least one person enjoys this creation, then the programmer can feel good about themselves. It also shows how technology can be stretched and that's a good thing.

I can see your point, we are in 2007 now, when i first got my psp i tried some emulators and i got really bored really quickly, i just stick to new games now, thats what you should do, dont worry about this kind of thing, im sure some people might like it, like my grandad
