PSPThere's a bug in firmware 3.0! 3.01's coming tomorrow!

Yeah, that's what everybody's shouting/screaming/hollering about in the various PSP communities. Apparently, an SCEE admin named Sslust said that there's a teeny tiny bit of a bug in 3.0, and that 3.01 will be released tomorrow (to read his post, click on the 'via' link below and scroll to the last post. It's in Dutch, though).

Sslust didn't offer any details on the bug apart from a huge-toothed smile emoticon at the end of his post, but theories have been running the gamut from the PS1 emulator to a bug that occurs when you put Visual Player on random. Whatever the bug is though, this has given homebrew fanatics new hope in the continuing quest to finally crack the new firmwares that have come out.

Of course, it's still too early to know if the alleged bug can be exploited to allow PSP owners to run homebrew on their Sony handhelds, but we're keeping our fingers crossed while we wait for 3.01 to drop. Keep checking QJ for more updates on this.

Dutch:
No worries: morgen komt 3.01 uit. Er zat een klein foutje in 3.0. En nee, ik weet niet wat voor foutje

English:
Do not worry: tommorow 3.01 will be released. There was a small error in 3.0, don't know what.

Looks really fake, no explanation at all in this post.
As this is the only rumour, laugh about it.

@ JW

Translation is indeed correct, but why would that employee have anything to say about it? Why would they reveal the bugs, they never did.

   Re: Deus (Unregistered) - 2006-11-21
» it be true I say!!

There are some problems with the keyboards, mp3 visuals and the time/date/battery display which keeps flickering back and forth.
Sslust is a pretty decent guy who apparently works at scee so I'd trust him.

   Re: JW (Unregistered) - 2006-11-21
 » 2nd proof

Who says he is an employee after all?
I can add it to my name to: JW [SCEE firmware developer]. Yeah right...

And they won't reveal any bugs BEFORE they are solved within a new firmware.

He is, he's also got something to do with the dutch betatesters, is on the sony community team, makes sure there are prizes for the official contests on the forum etc. Trust me, he works there.

This might be the bug http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/2480/pb220001ug7.gif

This is no surprize. With all the new things for 3.00 sony were bond to slip up somewhere and i'am sure there will be more bugs and glitches for the homebrew coomunity to exploit :)

 » wow that must suck!

Think about it. You spend so much time to make the great Firmware 3.0 and then there's something wrong with it!

lol looks like 3.0 didnt last as long as sony wanted it to.

   by GameLordOmega - 2006-11-21
 » HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

This is awesome. Sony can not come out with one single thing that goes their way. This is the fate of fascist electronic developers... Muahahaha. Anyway, I hope that from the little bug we can create a huge monster of homebrew.

 » Other stuff he said

As a dutchman, I can tell you he confirmed PSX games will be available for download using the "PSP-Downloadshop", and buying a PS3 won't be needed.

His comment regarding this post can be translated as being:
"No worries: Tomorrow 3.01 will be released. There was a small bug in 3.0. And no, I don't know what kind of bug *biggrin*."

if its true this is one step toward kernel 3.0 homebrew

Re: Maybe not (Unregistered) - 2006-11-21
 » Not totally possible!

that would be extremely hard!!! Most likely they can use USER mode. Hopefully they do decrypt it. HOPEFULLY Dark_Alex will make a CF 3.00!!!! that would then be Fl_|CK!NG AWSOME!!!!!!!!!

 » Has 3.0 been removed?

I can't see it anywhere at the official PSP sites (not in the american and european, that is).

   Re: NO (Unregistered) - 2006-11-21
 » No it isnt!

it is not removed. Its just that the people who run playstation website are extemely slow and cant get anything done until a week after. (JUST LIKE THE PS3. They only made slightly less than 400,000 units, which is not enough 4 a country with more than 400,000,000 people.)

think about it with this new emulator sony has it wont take long for a hakker to fully emulate the ps1 on 1.50-2.80.and u dont need a F*CKING ps3 just get the files from torrents and stuff

cuz everyone buys the real games and are getting BACKUP copies..... hahaha
   by Deus7 - 2006-11-21
 » i dont doubt it

lets face it, Sony isn't very careful with patching holes in their firmware. how many firmwares now can use the supposedly "patched" .tiff exploit? LOL. on the other hand, and this is purely wishful thinking, maybe one or several of the people that are responsible to make/patch these firmwares are purposly leaving vulnerabilities for the homebrew community to discover?...... :P

   by akuma2099 - 2006-11-21
 » whatever

If you want to get technical every bit of homebrew is illegal since you are hacking the PSP to do things it was not meant to do and Sony doesn't want you to do with it. But it is still fun to do.

That aside I never really played but a few PS1 games and I am not about to pay more money for games I already have.

Lastly I think you all are reading a little too much into this, its most likely a bug to fix some random crash or lock upand can't be used as an exploit.

   Re: Dee (Unregistered) - 2006-11-22
 » Unhappy - Illegal

Sorry, but just by making Sony unhappy doesn't mean you're doing something illegal.. +D

dont celebrate victory its just a rumor but if its true imagine this Dark Alex Custom Firmware 3.0

   Re: Vipre77 - 2006-11-21
 » Uh huh...

IIRC, either Dark Alex or one of the other well known guys was touting some new super double-secret new hack that they were going to unleash after the official 3.00 firmware launched. Supposedly it was some sort of exploit or crack that they could use to hack any firmware. Okay, so the new firmware's out, and the ones that were touting this new hack are silent... What's up?
   by madgamer (Unregistered) - 2006-11-21

did anyone notice that when you connect your psp to computer using usb without going into usb mode it says that new hardware is found?

its because of the usb camera, it probably keeps the usb port on. (thats my hypothesis)

 » You think?

Oh no! Sony being the mastermind company they are have found a bug after releasing the 12th firmware update? OMG I can't believe this site even reports such garbage. Stick to homebrew/things that matter. Noone gives a flying fark if Sony found a bugg in their new trash, I coulda told you before it came out it would have a bug. Just another excuse to release yet another firmware. Sony makes me, and alot of other people sick. People who cared once for the PS line until we have been shat on again and again. Keep your PS3 Sony. I wouldn't accept one even if it was free. Now Microsoft is suing Linux....I'm running out of companys I respect enough to actually plunk down my hard earned cash for. Seems Nintendo is the only company that actually cares for its end-users. Who woulda thought one of the original gaming companys from the early 80's would still be around and this dedicated? I don't own a Wii yet, but I will try before I buy.

I have always been anti-piracy until these firmware updates. For the longest time I couldn't play any of the newest games for PSP because I refuse to update what I bought & paid for. When a certain thing was released, and I could actually now play all the games I had been wanting to play, I thought to myself..."Why should I continue to support this company?" Enter ISO heaven. Thanks but no thanks Sony, you lost this (PSP)round. PS3 from what I can see aint sellin too hot on Ebay...Noones seems to want anything with Sonys name on it....

Oh well my 2 cents.

that is so true! im thinking of getting a Wii, the moving is cool and all, but i wanna get a PS3 cause i wasted my money on a PSP.

   Re: Deus7 - 2006-11-21
 » pirating psp isos

hey, i dont blame you, and i cant say i dont do it, BUT WE HAVE TO KEEP IN MIND that pirating .iso's in particular DOESNT HURT SONY, **IT HURST THE GAME COMPANY THAT MADE THE GAME PEOPLE** sure, sony may make a bit of money from it, but the hugest hit is to the GAME COMPANY, NOT SONY!!!!!
keep that in mind, and happy gaming, however you do it, whether you do it legaly or not :P

   Re: skoomaeater (Unregistered) - 2006-11-21
 » not really

any iso's that I pirate do not, and never will hurt the gaming industry. I wouldn't buy their crap anyways. and to be honest, most of these "games" should be freaking shareware for all i'm concerned. The very few games that are worth purchasing, I do. so any iso's i download won't hurt anybody.

   Re: GaveUpTomorrow - 2006-11-21
 » @ skoomaeater

errr, wrong. Its people like you who are destroying the gaming industry. If it is worth it for you to download the file, its worth it to pay for the game. You are taking away money from places like blockbuster who rents games, because you test your games for free. I hope you brick your psp pale ;)

   Re: sqrl (Unregistered) - 2006-11-22
 » errr, nuh uh

sony keeps treating their customers like we as the consumer have to put up with their sh*it because their name is sony and they think theyr unstoppable. I missed the dreamcast when it died, but honestly, psp has such a small handful of truly spectacular games like the dc did. theres very little loss for me and most others who get frustrated after paying 40 to 50 for a horrible game. isos are helping sony at least sell other ***** like 4 gig pro duos. isos dont hurt sony, bad games and customer rapport does. the day that sony stops *****cing with their customers is the day ill respect them.
*they gave us homebrew and tried to steal it back, unsuccessfully. the customer is always right and they just did us wrong
*promised us gran turismo 4 portable for summer 06, cant find that iso, huh?
*killed lik-sang
*ps3 connectivity lie
*and ps1 emulation was announced b4 launch and here we are a year later and its just coming out. mite as well goto a gamestop, get a psx for 20 bucks or so and games for $2-3 off ebay. youll prawly have to throw away more money on memory sticks to fit that ***** anyway.

reason enough to d/l isos for me. cause f*uck em, thats why. waste ur money on crappy games instead of complaining about how other people dont, not gonna hurt my feelings

Its pretty obvious its a lie so that 2.81+ users will upgrade and it will be harder for them to downgrade.

I may be completely wrong since I dont know much about ROMS and emulators, but couldnt people make their own ROMS for the Playstation emulator?

   Re: wonkizzle - 2006-11-21

The firmware was just released.. That sort of information wont be released for a while. Gotta have time to hack these things. Im waiting for someone to just extract, decrypt and remake the PS1 emu, so 1.5 users can use it.
