Cathunt - Image 1With Manhunt 2 facing an Adults Only rating in US shores (ESRB had reportedly given Manhunt 2 an AO rating already) and getting banned in the UK, retail sales are sure to suffer quite a blow on the head.

Game Politics decided to ask Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter about what's his take on Take-Two Interactive's financial storm to come. He said that Manhunt 2 would probably generate revenue amounting to US$ 25 million, with an additional US$ 15 million brought about by reorders.

Interestingly enough, Take-Two's stock closed with a higher value at 20.74, on the same day that the Manhunt 2 fiasco exploded.

Pachter also drew three possibilities on how Take-Two will deal with the Manhunt 2 hullabaloo. The company may:

  1. Ship the game as is;
  2. Re-cut the game and try to have the UK ban and/or US Adults Only rating lifted; or,
  3. Cancel the game altogether.
Don't worry, Manhunt fans. The video game financial analyst has written off the third option as unlikely, since the costs that Take-Two has spent for developing the game are not recoverable. Shipping the game as is, however, will lower sales; on the other hand, publishing a cut version of the controversial game will cost more, but will give them significantly higher sales at the same time.

With all these in mind, will there ever be another Manhunt game? Pachter thinks that chances of a sequel are improbable.

As for impact on the [Manhunt] franchise, it seems that the violence level is sufficiently offensive to warrant a UK ban and a US AO rating. That can’t be good for the longevity of the franchise.

Just for the sake of it. I'm not a fan at all of the game, but those political choices sicken me.

remove blood or change it with something non violent.
replace real guns with water pistols and squirt guns or even paintball guns.
replace people with jack look-alike alien.
have it rereviewed and advise for a rating of E for Everyone.
why would you waste the work, convert it to something cheesy and acceptable by these bozos.
and change the name to "alienthunt FKAM" FKAM stands for "formerly known as manhunt"

I really disagree with the pressure tactics driving down sales for Manhunt 2. Time and time again, the opposite has been true. These groups think they're going to sink games like this, but all they end up doing is fanning the flames and drawing attention to them.

I agree that the choices by politicians and groups seeking to ban violent games sickens me. However, rather than complaining on message boards, if we're that concerned, it's up to us to pressure our politicians that we don't want their input on video games.

» if it's banned, or AO....

The only thing it'll do is make it harder for the kids to get ahold of. how many 12-year olds have a credit card to order things from online? It should be the parent's resposibility to know what game they're buying for little Johnny.
Alternatively, it will boost sales due to the 'taboo' factor, and will hold the title of most violent game..... until the next one comes. and it will. anyone remember when friday the 13th came out? that was pretty gorey. at the time. Now we have things like Saw, and think nothing of it.
In a few years, this will be nothing, because the newest games will be so much worse by comparisson and noone will realise it. Desensitization at it's best.

...As many 12-year olds who have a homebrew-enabled psp and an access to internet. (you'll know what comes after next.)

I've put in my gaming years, I dont want some watered down crap so some 15-yr old could play it and blame all their anti-social behavior on a video game. Just let me strangle someone via wiimote and i'll go to bed happy.

 » HEY "Seriously"

I've played my share of violent videogames and seen plenty of violent movies, and I'm 15. My parents are one of the few that actually TAKE THEIR time to judge whether or not I'm mature enough to understand that videogames and movies aren't real... unlike other parents that either want to manipulate their children's innocent minds rather than do things like guide them into the real world, or are just too lazy and need something in their pathetic lives to complain about. I've been playing violent games since I got my first home gaming console, the N64 (Now into Sony and MS Windows, not really the 360...) and that was when I was still not even in 2nd grade, when I moved to the Texas Hill Country (A beautiful place to live). I believe in God, and also that they created the idea of parents so that not only an entire population could reproduce and keep living on the planet for so long, but also so that they could teach their young, not control them, to become used to the world thats like lemonade, it can be sweet or sour, but that is determined by the maker of the lemonade (ie the person making their own choices, creating their own unique lives).
