Some third party manufacturers have released replacement analog sticks for the PSP to be released in Japan.

Both Cyber Gadget (released on March 14) and Greenhouse have a few on offer, ranging in height, width and form.

Note, that the disassembly of the PSP is for expert users only, but those looking for something different and maybe something more comfortable, do yourself a favor and pick up one from an import store.

 » U.S. availability

There's a package of accessories (retails for around 15 to 20 bucks) available in the U.S. It's from Digital Labs. I've seen it at both Sam's Club and Best Buy. It includes a set of "power grips" that make the PSP feel more like a last-generation console controller (Though I never use mine, they seem to cut down on the number of times my hands fall asleep during extended play), a car adapter, a flip-down screen protecting visor, and two little replacement analog nubs, which, as a previous poster noted, do NOT require disassembly of the unit itself; You just pull the old nub off and put the new one on. The nubs in this package feel slightly more comfortable than the factory one to me, if not necessarily more functional.

» this is what you all should get

have you guys tried the analog sticks that come in a pack of five with different heights and diameters? I use the one that is the same size as the standard nub, but is just rubber insteal of that slippery plastic.

i went from hardly ever playing my psp due to cramping problems and general hand malaise. the added depth of these caps makes the psp INFINITELY more playable for people with large hands. i bought a three pack for 5 bucks. definitely worth a try.

 » do NOT buy!

Although these make the PSP much more comfortable, they are a very bad idea. They twist and break the analog unit. I have already replaced my analog stick once, and at $30 a piece, i am not going to do something that would make me have to replace it again. If you look around, there are tons of reports of this happening all around the internet, so it is not just me. Use these at your own risk.

 » bummer

The only bad thing about the replacement analog stick i have (yay, I'm british!) Is that they come off easy once you take the original off. Bummer!

   by thefirstWARLoRD - 2006-03-28
 » still bullcrap

im british(thebest) you can buy these in any game or gamestation shop and beside y not just make ur own by pulling an old duelshock 2 pad apart and nicking the analog nub off has the same size clip to fit in i did this and still prefur the original one it might be miniscule in size but at least it dont fudge you analog stick

Also available at http://www.javoedge.com; their's are taller, but can easily be cut down with regular scissors. Like $6-7 USD for a package of six.
