Think it's real? - Image 1It's offical: everyone has gone crazy over Lumines after the monster Illuminati exploit. If you somehow managed to miss the hottest news, this magical key that unlocks the door to homebrew land skyrocketed to 14,000% in sales on Amazon. Such an overwhelming number can make heads spin.

Rumor has it that a gamer was able grab Lumines from Wal-Mart for US$ 0.10. Copy was supposedly tagged for US$ 11.83, but the receipt came out different. How likely can that happen?

Another poster claims that he got his copy in Canada for the same low price, but everyone else are mostly skeptic. Even with such high demand right now, it is quite difficult to imagine that any PSP game would fly off the shelves for that puny price. Well, the receipt is there, but it could be bogus.

Many other sites have the release of Daedulus posted on the front page but I am guessing since news tipsters never get credit on this site that they didn't bother sending em.

anyone can change a price, especially the noobs who monitor the psp scene and have mediocre jobs that like to start up a stir... this is bull*****, i could photoshop it too if i wanted, just as easily as i could reprice it at the register at walmart (if i worked there)

» Just came back from the very store...

I checked to pick up a copy of lumines for anything under 10 bucks (before I even knew about the downgrader.) Unfortuneatly, my local wally-world had it for $19.98. Of course now I want to turn around and go by a copy to downgrade with. I call bogus on the receipt though.

Why would the guy give the cashier 27 cents on the receipt just to get 15 cents back? What a fake.

It's easier to carry around a dime and a nickel then more change.

 » 27¢

The reason to give 27¢ (quarter two pennies) is to get silver back as opposed to copper. the price with tax was 12¢. I do it all the time to rid myself of copper.

just call the wal-mart on the reciept, ask them to check the database. looks like a misprint to me. or photoshop, easily. anyways, im surprised this game is selling at all! good for the exploit, but crappy game otherwise.

 » you posted someones ssn

I work at wal*mart and the op# is someones ssn.

I do think its fake since it should only be 4 digits and not the whole number.

Pass this off as fraud.

   Re: Kaizer_911 - 2007-06-26
 » Ex Wal-Mart Manager

I used to be a Wal-Mart Manager and the OP# is NOT your ssn, its your employee number and is usually 4 digits long unless the facility has been around long enough to cylce through 1,0000 employees. And this very well could be a nice photoshop hoax BUT at the sametime it was nothing for the Controller CC (primary database) to hiccup and cause prices to mess up like this, or if a download from home office messed up...or if the dept manager for electronics (dept 5) messed up on his weekly telxon exceptions. So either way it could be true, or it could be false...best way to find out is to go to your local walmart

 » not fraud

i work at a walmart store in electronics and games go down to .10cents all the time. most i see is xbox games but ive seen psp games go for 1.00 as well. ---i got MLB for a dollar.

THIS IS LEGIT

 » Mhmm

0.10 is a clearance price, and as Lumines has been discontinued, it's obviously been marked down to clearance. I work at Toys "R" Us and ours is marked down to 19.98, however, we don't have any in stock. I actually had about 3 people call me tonight looking for a copy, I said we didn't have any and wished them luck with their downgrade :)

   Re: crzynines (Unregistered) - 2007-06-26
 » clearance price

No store would sell a game for 10 cents on purpose, not even gamestop. 10 cents would not pay for the time it takes an employee at the register to give you your change. 10 cents would not pay for the time it takes to change the price. It is not a clearance!

   Re: .... (Unregistered) - 2007-06-27
 » You're wrong crzynines...

If you get deep into a lot of bargain shopping shopping like joining a deals site such as CAG (cheapassgammer.com), you'd see that these sales happen all of the time. Strategy guides sell all of the time for this price, as they penny them out, and if they don't sell, they dispose of them. There was a big sale at Best Buy where many games dropped down to $1.99, and I picked up three of them. This is why most of you will believe that this is BS, when it really isn't not and indeed is real: Walmart's sales/clearances vary from store to store, meaning that one walmart could be selling Lumines for this price and not a single other Walmart is. Its up to the manager what gets clearanced. Thus said, there is NO point to ever posting a clearance deal from a Walmart store on a national level, as the deal may be at one store, or only a handful of stores. ;) I hope that helped you understand why you are wrong...and that these kind of clearances do happen.

 » its true

its true. I found one in a bargin bin also. said 11.83 on a big red sticker and $0.10 on the reciept. only paid 11cents with tax :D

   by Dodo - 2007-06-26
 » Eh

Who cares if the receipt is legit or not as long as you can get the game that works for homebrew.

You're missing the great part, that Lumines "skyrocketed to 14,000% in sales on Amazon".

Now that's awesome.

by Who Wants to know!? 420 (Unregistered) - 2007-06-27
» Legal or not who cares

Well it doesn't really matter wether it is real or fake. All that matters is wether or not you get the right game for HBs. But Walmart does really do sales like this all the time. I hav actually walked into Walmart one day and found games going from -{COMMENT_BODY}.50. Depending on the sales/clearence.

by Its possible.... (Unregistered) - 2007-06-27
 » Could beeeeee

This could be a fake, commonly known Wal-Mart scam, in which you need someone on the inside (Cashier). Ive seen it done before, with DVDs, games, clothes, pretty much everything. You only but a 25c gum (or something worth a low value, like 10c bubblegum or something.) and they scan the gum, while holding the real product above it, so the cashier looks like theyre scanning a game/dvd/merchendise, but really scanning the gum. That way, the cameras see the cashier scanning merchandise, and the CM's see the recipts of someone who loves their gum a little too much. Im not saying thats what they did, but its a chance.

   Re: ugh (Unregistered) - 2007-06-27
 » ugh

thats a true scam, but not what happened, or else the reciept would say bubbalicious for 10 cents rather than Lumines PSP for 10 cents

 » No hoax.

I am another lucky soul who has benefited from Wal-Mart's secret sale. I'm in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. All in all I went to 4 of the 6 WallyWorld's in this city. At the second one I found a single copy of Lumines, tagged $11.83, yet scanned in at the magical price of 10¢! I proudly paid the dime & 2 pennies. On another note, at the third WallyMart, I picked up 4 UMD movies @ 2 for $10! I chose Blade, Shaun of the Dead, and the two Rid***** movies. The fourth WMDS had a much larger selection, a dozen or more titles to choose from. I just opted to stop there. I can post my receipt later, but I hardly think it's neccesary. This is legit. I'm heading off to the other two WallsMart (free lobotomy included with every application!) today to hunt for other copies and other titles at the bargain price. I'd love to get Exit.

Well, the tax arithmetic does work itself out; figured a bad calculation would blow this fraud wide upon, but from that perspective, it's airtight. I still don't believe it though.

Today I went to the final 2 of the 6 WalterMarts and found no joy. Oh well, at least I got my one Lumines at the announced 10¢ price.
