Sony was sending out Emails to its Commercial Retailers that all new PSPs to be sent out will have 'Downgradable Prevention' built right into them. All new PSPs to be shipped out as of next week Friday, May 18th, will be a higher firmware, 4.xx (specifics were not released), but they were promised to include new security features to prevent hacks and downgrades. Apparently this is one of their first steps to start focusing on the PSP again, instead of diverting all attention to the PS3. |

Seriously why wont sony just give up the fight
Really, the Sony products are selling so well because of the possibilities you get when you hack them. The only thing is, the guys responsible for marketing (and possibly ken kutaragi) haven't noticed it yet. And still, TA-086 was considered un-downgradeable to firmwares less than 2.5. So this new mobo will probably get hacked in no time. Those Sony dudes must have really big balls to risk their sales like that.
am i bovvered?
sony is not making money by selling hardware actually with the ps3 they pay money for every unit sold. i dont think its much different for the psp...
Custom firmware rocks thanks sony!
You need to put:
Skype
PS Store
PSP HOME (well not yet)
Improve the RSS with more features like edit and rename and reorder
More visuals for music
.mov format
Improve Web Browser
More themes
sony created undowngradeable firmwares before and theyll do it again >_>
as long as the hackers live... there is no such thing as non-downgrade-able...
Just the matters of T.I.M.E.
man that sucks its gonna be downgrade proof like the ta-082!!! DAMN! :-P
what if its like the 360, we cant downgrade them yet....
i've got a psp already, unless it breaks, i'm fine, and if it does, i just need to buy a 2nd hand one and i'm sorted.
and i think the 360 can be exploited potentially, it's just not an easy process yet.
All sony does is make the psp so that there is no information of a fw lower than 4.xx. There fore the only thing to do to the new psp is to hack them where they start, 4.xx. Knowing Sony, they will probably make a mistake and there will be a door left wide open, if we can find that door and exploit it.
I could care less about people who buy theirs now. Just less noobs running around. The new security measures are probably just another new motherboard.

WHAT! YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! BAHAHAHAHAHA. And you guys trust THAT? I could say that I'm the son of the co-ceo of sony and tell you that there's a ps4 comming next month and you idiots would still belive me.. come on.
They are trying to encourage companies to produce games for their system. With all the system sellers coming out (GoW, Final Fantasy Series, and GT), they have to get some help from third party sellers to help ride that wave, by making good selling games. Software sales for the psp sucks because of iso loaders. Why would anyone NOT try to stop the bleeding.
Could this new security measure be associated with that big complicated anti-piracy algorithm Sony made and was orgasming about around a month ago?
ya isnt this exactly what they said about the ta 82s and 86s? watch this get hacked on the first day of release ill laugh my arse off!!!!!!!!!!!!! FW 1.5 FTW
let sony do this...they will finally see what the PSP actually lives for...and that is everything homebrew
i would laugh SOOO hard when they see sales of the PSP plunge down
wouldnt ths make it harder to make a new custom firmware
because sony aint a loser lyk u who would give up dat easily.
well thats a load of balls
at least i got mine :P
wasn't the ta-082+ the same deal? undowngradable yadayadayada
its probably just helping the sony programmers find better shortcuts so they can program the ps3 and psp faster
How is this anything new? I think we could all agree that every new firmware has had "downgradable prevention" built in. I mean, it's not like they ever released a firmware that gave you the option of downgrading to an earlier one. When units started shipping with 3.XX firmware, I'm sure Sony felt they were including "downgradable prevention," but we all have seen what happened there.
I don't see how this email report should cause us any more trepidation. Our beloved hackers probably see this as another exciting challenge, designed simply for their cracking pleasure. So to Sony, I simply say "meh", to our hackers I bid good luck, and to my fellow gamers, I say don't panic, just be patient.
YARR! Sony is ANGRY! I bet the "preventable downgrade" function in their next PSP will be.... a non-upgradable FW ROM! Seriously. That's the ONLY way that's 100% foolproof. But even then, hacks can be found and HB can load from RAM.
So then I wonder, will there be the regular PSPs and then a more "secure" PSP edition?
That's what they said with nearly every firmware version past 1.5, but they especially said it with 2.0, 2.01. Every version past that were considered "un-downgradeable". I hope that WHEN (not if) we hack their so called "downgradeable prevention" PSP units, they see that they've lost and have been and finally give up the fight.
doesnt make any difference here, most games are cack on the psp ... best thing about it is all the emulators and homebrew :P
screw j00 sony! Leave my homebrew outta this!
lolz
I also play GameBOyAdvance so what :D
Maybe so but...I'm sick of FFVIII freezing on me and if new Firmware can no longer be hacked, I won't get a better PS1 emulator past 3.40.
All I can say is that if they are gonna make my PSP un-downgradeable with firmware 4.00 I also want loads of features. Not a single firmware has convinced me of droping dark alex, cuz sony just never give us any new firmwares... One more thing... Dark_AleX, get READY :D
there better be a good reason besides this that anyone would want this instead of an oe firmware. I am tired of sony just removing features but not giving us much in return. And what ever happened to watching movies on the PSPs. Why don't you guys let us do more of that?
There's no such thing as unhackable software. I give up to 2 weeks for hackers until they'll crack it. Then, DAX will make a OE/SE/UE/EE/xE/whatever custom firmware, and it will be the same way as in 3.00 fw.
There is definitely such thing as unhackable software (eg. Hello World) - just, with something so big as the PSP's firmware, it's really really hard to do it.
to a degree anyway - you could edit what text it displayed, if it was a form, the form title etc.
nice names here:
UE - Ultimate Edition?
EE - Extreme Edition?
sounds pretty cool...
Will mod chips still work cuz if they do then u will still be able to downgrade right???
Rejoice as this means 4.XXOE-A CFW.
As for the rest simply go to some backwater store that doesn't sell a lot of units and pick up your 2.60 FW PSP.
F-A-G-S, omg n00b they might not be able to crack the
PSPiece of *****, w/e who cares
Now hope the 4.xx firmware has Skype or VOIP built in, better GPS support, streaming video (where is Youtube Sony ?) or a better browser because the one from Netfront sucks a bit sometimes.
why are there no available comments on this topic: Al-Quran for the PSP ?
OMFG no way...lol AHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHA
duh dude... its because NO ONE CARES about that POS...you r-tard...
AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAH
(*points up*)
Thats why
Wow if they do that it's gonna SUCK for sales. like 70% of what makes the PSP is the homebrew hacks and all, because it brings out WAY more of the PSP's potential that Sony won't allow us to see for whatever reason.
Sony, let the grudge go, yes, devs made several awesome breakthroughs that threw Sony to the ground, but whether you know it or not it's HELPING sales of your PSP console. Only reason I bought mine was because I could also downgrade it to play homebrews and stuff, and that's the only reason my sis bought one as well... So stop and think a minute Sony. This very bad move will kill your console IF our devs can't beat it again, and if they can, you'll be lucky.
Sony doesn't want PS3 or PSP to sell aparently...
They know the PS3 doesn't sell because of price, but they won't lower it.
They can't lower the price, they're already losing money for each PS3 console they sell. What company would lower it?
funny when you talk about sony losing sales when all you people using hacked psps download the games for free. i know at least 6 people at work alone that have hacked psps and hard drives filled with every single game that has come out on the system. they get them the second the iso appears online and never spend a penny on the system besides the initial purchase. i really hope they do finally get this thing hack proof. would be nice coming here and seeing it a ghost town.
70% is totally B.U.L.L.S.H.I.T.
approximatily only 20% of all PSP AT ALL know about homebrew and the numbers are even lower when you only count people who CAN use homebrew....
i agree with Silver-Tiger, not a lot of ppl knw about homebrew....most ppl, like me, didnt even knw about homebrew when they bought a psp
FUX0RZ you, Sony!
First you're bringing down the Lik-Sang community, for some stupid ass power adapter sh*t...
Now you're bringing down the homebrew scene as well??
It's time you stop hating the homebrew scene and just make some friends out here....!
You will sell more PSP's then you will ever have...
next time just type ***** instead of FUX0RZ you dumb *****!!
its way more funnier than ****
HAHAHA MY BOSS IS REALLY CRAZY LOL..
JUST BUY A MODCHIP AND YOU ALL WILL BE FINE!
