PSP FW 5.0 - Image 1

Earlier this week, we heard that Sony had already - supposedly! - released the upcoming PSP firmware 5.0 to developers for them to test out. To keep you guys updated on this rumor, we finally hear from PSPGen the list of features that are coming with FW 5.0. Roll in the list!
  • Access to PlayStation Network. No, not PlayStation Store... PlayStation Network. This feature will make it possible for gamers to connect to Sony's online network and play, not via ad-hoc, but via PSN.
  • New RSS reader. The new RSS reader is to be added and will now supposedly allow the reading of text, as opposed to just images, videos, and sounds.
  • Integrated Screen capture function. No need for homebrew apps (iR Shell, etc.) to take screenshots anymore. Looks like Sony's building the screen capture into the system already. Sweet!
PSPGen notes that this is a beta version of the new firmware. The only purpose Sony supposedly released this is so that studios developing upcoming games can see if they can work out the new features and bring it into their games. Heck, not all XMB functions are even made available in this beta version - Sony just really wanted the devs to try out the new features.

Again, note that this is not just a rumor for now, but a rumor of a beta version of the firmware - which makes it twice that hard to place. Given that it's a beta version, it means that Sony may change it when they release the final build.

there is a Screen capture file in flash0 so I don't think its a rumor, I know this because I removed it to save space in my flash0

If they put in access to the Playstation Network, couldn't that allow them to see if we're using custom firmware, and block us from the network...

   Re: solid0snake - 2008-10-01
 » hmm

Then leave the CFW behind and just buy games.

Let me guess, you just use CFW for Homebrew apps. Right?

DarkAlex should remove the ISO Feature in the upcomin CFW. So the PSP can get the games it deserves.

Totally agree on that one solid0snake!

   Re: Binary - 2008-10-01

bring on the good games. get rid of ISO support

   Re: c74gta4smash - 2008-10-01
 » Hmmm

Yeah but if he's gonna remove ISO support, SONY shold consider a new casing for UMD's. I'm sorry guys but I've had a few cases broken now and I only have ISO's in order to play them.

On another note, for the next firmware we need...

An equalizer for the music player,
PSN,
DIVX support,
Brightness determined on a slider rather than the 4 default,
A flashplayer update, at least flash7 for youtube,
At least 10 mb available to web pages,
Natural cxmb support,
AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, Would it kill to give the U.S. the camera attachment?

   Re: jabbaface - 2008-10-01
 » @ solid0snake

CFW isn't only for getting out of buying games, it is for CXMB, CWcheat AND The homebrew games.

   Re: jgr9 - 2008-10-01
 » ...

This is reply to c74gta4smash. I have a feeling that there might be a good reason for not updating flash, but I don't know. I haven't tried the slim psp online, but the phat one runs out of memory very quickly. This might make it pointless to upgrade flash so that you can view videos. This could also be the same issue for PS3, but again, I don't know. At least you can view youtube on PS3.

   Re: c74gta4smash - 2008-10-01
 » Yeah

I know that but it's not like that's stopped SONY from giving extra features to the slim model which I have. And yes I can watch youtube on my PS3 but I can't take it with me LOL and that browser suffers from some java and memory just like the PSP's.

   Re: jgr9 - 2008-10-01
 » c74gta4smash

Yup.

In articles and vids for ps3: The ps3 has a fully functional internet browser (except for the fact that the ps3 doesn't have much RAM and it doesn't have anywhere near the newest flash and java, etc along w/ other missing features).

   Re: alatnet1 - 2008-10-02
 » c74gta4smash + jgr9

The thing is, is that Sony doesn't even THINK to even use the memory stick that is almost ALWAYS in the freaking PSP as extra memory.
Kind of like windows and the page file system.
This could give the extra memory that the web browser needs for storing temporary files that can easily be deleted after using the web browser.

   Re: jgr9 - 2008-10-02
 » Oh ya.

Oh ya, I didn't think of that. I haven't actually used readyboost on Vista. You could probably use a flash drive too, but doesn't the entire flash drive or memory stick get wiped clean to use it as memory? I think that's what you need to do to use readyboost, but I'm not sure.

   Re: Silver-Tiger - 2008-10-02
 » ...

Sony can't update the flash player because they do not have the rights to tinker with it.
It's completely up to Adobe to update the PS3 and PSP versions of the flash players, and i doubt they will do out, giving the time they already had.

sorry for that.

Screen Captures?
Meh ok I guess, maybe if you found a glitch in game or something...

Now that would rock...

   by emcp - 2008-10-01
 » mm

i believe it

to bad too late for me, im pandorized. open pandorized that is

anyway they need friends, trophies and playstation store to save the psp

although good games are finally coming out
anyway if they were to add them in the phat would be hopeless

also CFW could block the check, the reason why theres a little bit of hesitation to hack the ps3 is, if its hack some gimp would probably release it before coming substantial enough to get a cfw out of

basically the ps3 needs to leap to a cfw, and if you want to prevent sony from checking homebrew enabled psps, youd not beable to sign in unless your on the latest cfw

anyway look at the usb fake ofw thing, i know its different but....

but yh nice features, the rss should have been there what 2 years ago

idk though hehe pandora

» equaliser, volume level and pda application pls

sony, please include equaliser and make the volume level louder like ipod so we can play music loud on our component hi fi system like ipod does!

   Re: Karl Marx - 2008-10-01
 » Already can

The current "equalizer" is pretty disappointing, but if you use one of the TV output cables to hook it up to your sound system (assuming you have a slim) it will boost your volume an incredible amount on it's own already.

   Re: pspslim2000 - 2008-10-01
 » tv?

yes it does louder if you conect it on tv but its not sensible beause if you just want to listen to music you dont want to turn on the tv isnt it? what I did is connect it to my hifi stereo system but even you adjust the volume to the limit it still not loud. I hope someone can tweak the psp mp3 player to give more audio power like ipod.

 » PSN APP STORE"

I agree with "pspslim2000", It would be nice if PSP had more Apps on the XMB. Sony needs a App store so you could download and remove apps like GO Messenger. So Sony doesn't need more Flash room to include these apps.

I'm currently in College and I hate using my cell phone to organize my upcoming events and etc. I'd love if Sony would added a Note taker, a Calender (To add events and notes to), a Calculator (A simple or advance calculator), the ability to contact others on campus with a PSP, and/or just being able to check my email, any email, with out the browser (Like GO Messenger).

I want to be able to play games or be on the XMB and have it pop up a small notification bar that informs me that I got class in 5min or just something important I need to do.

Oh and a side note: I wish it had a rumble feature so I could have my PSP off and if buzz if there's a notification.

Sony you got the technology now push it to it's limits!

   Re: sickofitall - 2008-10-02
 » good post but,

we don't need three copies of it. Yes, it would be cool to download just the apps we want, like for the iphone. If sony allowed homebrew apps, then we could have many more without cfw.

 » My thoughts

1. The screenshot is fake. That's not what you would see for a testtool firmware. Regardless...

2. Access to PlayStation Network.

Yes. Absolutely. It's already in Wipeout Pulse.

2. New RSS reader.

Wouldn't be surprised, though I'll probably still stick with FreeRadio.

3. Integrated Screen capture function.

Definitely. screenshot_plugin.prx has been around for a while; there's even a function in the Internet Radio player for taking screenshots.

   Re: dPoet - 2008-10-01
» you made a funny LoL

come awn :P ok, the posts went a wee bit off topic, but this one's just confusing... one, you canny count.... two 2's? and what's with the contradiction!?!? 1 it's fake and then 3 it's definate? the screenshot capability has been there, but wont be implimented into use on XMB and all functions, it's there for game function i.e. wipeout pulse had it, and a few other games. screen capture, is a completely different thing. it merges frames into a visual file to be played in sequence. screen shot is independant screen frame saving. check the definitions online. still giving a star tho lol

What would be REALLY neat is if you can piggy back the Ad-Hoc networking with the PSN networking generating a kind of Sony administrated XKai.

 » mp3 again

hi, just emailed sony for improvement.
good day sir/maa'm, My name is Derek, I am one of the thousands complaining about the psp volume level. I / we tested our psp's with different hi-fi system so we can also listen music at our offices and homesbut we are very disappointed with the volume level it is very low even we turn off the avl feature but amazingly with ipod mp3 player it is very loud speacialy with big hi-fi component system. We are here to ask if you "SONY" can improve this feature with your next firmware update please. If you visit one of the furom site like afterdawn.com maxconsole , qj.net you will see how badly need this feature since we dont only use our psp to play games we use it also to play mp3 music with our hi-fi system. We hope you hear us. Looking forward to hear from you soon! Thank you very much and more power! from, psp users all over the world

hope someone make a sticky and make poll so we can email the result to sony so they will hear us.
