Ó

yoyofr , thunderz, and laxer3 have released the latest update to their exceptional SNES emulator. When the first and second major versions of this emulator were released many FSP owners started a satisfying new relationship with their PSP and classic SNES games. In this version, almost all of the Super Nintendo's original graphic effects are emulated in PSP Accelleration mode.

SNESTYL plays many great SNES games from Super Metroid and Chrono Trigger to Donkey Kong Country and Legend of Zelda with great accuracy. The overall speed of the emulator has improved quite a bit since the initial release. You are able to adjust the settings by pressing left analog (initial default) and turn on frames per second (FPS) this will allow you to tweak the emulator to the best settings for whichever SNES games you like to play.

You may also notice that there are two different versions of SNESTYL now. The standard version, which runs in user mode (but sadly not on eLoader.) Then there is Kernel mode me, for users of 1.0 and 1.5 version PSP's. In kernel mode, me is used for sound processing.

[[NEW] mode 7 optimizations when no rotation is used (maps in rpg, ...). Does not apply to fzero, mario kart, ...
[[NEW] now 2 versions ! the "me" one is using media engine for sound mixing (not perfect).
[[NEW] roms can be deleted from file browser (press SELECT).
[[NEW] savestates can deleted from menu.
[[NEW] screen adjustement (pseudo calibration) to get rid of those nasty black borders!
[[NEW] minor GUI adjustements (easily swap analog/pad, easier navigation with triggers)
[[NEW] now accept 8bpp and 24bpp logo.bmp background file.
[[NEW] new logo from pochi.
[[FIX] some rendering & internal emulation core bugs.
[[FIX] stability issues & memory card corruption should be gone (at least on my psp).
[[FIX] debug settings are now correctly saved.

If you haven't checked out this emulator before now would be an excellent time to do so, with an extensive compatibility list, and highly customizable emulator settings, SNES TYL has made another solid advancement in Super Nintendo emulation on the PSP. If you have a chance please visit yoyofr's website and check out his latest update, and if you happen to have a few extra bucks in your paypal account and enjoy the emulator consider donating. Great work like this implores attention. Thanks for the heads up Scott.

To donate to yoyofr you can send direct payment via paypal to ymagnien [@] hotmail [dot] com

Thanks for another great update! Keep it up! I, like the others, will keep my fingers crossed as you work harder towards making it bugfree (as much as it can be with all the diff roms out there)
oh and ignore teknogeek1300, he's just mad I've been pimping his mom all day and their family income is lining my pockets now.

To teknogeek1300^^

You know my mother tounge _isn't_ English, but when I read your post... Well I honestly can't see what your typing. Can you post that answer again, but in a readable English?

i hope the saves get fixed soon!

by Illegal Machine (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

ok...

this emulator cant

1. save game specific settings

2. select lock the menu, and allow both analog and d-pad to work simultaneously

3. output quality sound

4. look good in fullscreen mode

5. Impress me

2 thumbs down from Illegal Machine..

maybe if it did all it does now, PLUS those essential things, and everything that the Y releases can do, and it will be quality. but it can't so I think it stinks

   by Sonic (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

Attention: For those having slowdown problems, you MUST SET SOUND FREQUENCY TO 44 Khz!!!

For some reason anything lower than that causes severe slowdown in many games.

As to Illegal Machines, your complaints are ridiculous.

First off, who the devil cares about simultaneously using the D pad and analog stick? That's such a small gripe I can't believe you mention it.

And "quality sound"? I have never had any problems with the sound before. It outputs at 44 Khz. What else could you ask for?

What do you mean by "look good in fullscreen mode"? What the devil looks better than a game that runs in full screen mode without any slowdown? How else could they make it look "better"?

While I really shouldn't get worked up about a single person, you've complained twice now, and it's really just pathetic. The fact that this emulator is multiple times faster than Y's CPU-only emulator is plenty reason enough to use this over Y's (not to decry Y's efforts). Quit complaining about meager things.

Mine works just fine. The only problem I can tell are:

1: Can't put into sleep mode. Meh.
2: you have to re-do your settings (cpu speed, frameskip, ect.)

I just took my old Snes folder and overwrote the new eboot and logo into it.

Everything seems to be pretty good, I can already see some of my games (Notably the RPG's) work quite a bit smoother. Near perfect I must say.

Nice work.

Upgrade and forget homebrew on PSP, just buy a GP2X, its whooping the PSP scene already :P

by Illegal Machine (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

you're a douchebag Sonic.

I can say what I want.

Move to china and become a censor you communist bastard

I dont like this emulator, for those reasons, theyre not menial to me, and YOUR opinion impresses me even less..

I'm running PSP FW 2.0 just wondering if I should use kxploit_ready or unpatched? I'm using Fanjitas EbootLoader of course. Don't think it matters much. Great update, with the tweaks mentioned by Zenjiki, and a few others, it runs better than .2c. Namely the 44khz sound. Other than that I cannot import save files, just seem to not work...maybe I'm not doing something right. Anyways sorry if I sounded complaintish, this version works much better for the games I've tried anyways. Keep up the great work, and be lookin for a donation soon. (As soon as I get some cash!)

   by shinbo5 (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

hi yall.

i jus downloaded this emulator and boy was i disappointed. i was expecting a big improvement, but all i got was a big disappointment. everything is x2 slower and boring. i just wanna say that fanjita is that fanjita is awesome. well anyways, i gotta go cause my mom might spank me, so if you wanna contact me, PLEASE send me an email at shinyarrd@yahoo.com and put some comments on my MYSPACE at http://www.myspace.com/shin_chan88

Illegal Machine, Just break your psp and go find another scene! This Emu rocks, and if your having problems with it, Well all I can say is USER ERROR!

   by comedy (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

people aren't being very nice are they? i say good effort, these guys have used some useful stuff and this emulator certainly has benefits... so why all the 'this is ****' stuff? how many homebrew apps out there aren't exactly as you want them?

how very ungrateful. i think snes emulation is top banana, there's only two things i'd like more... gba and ps1 emus!

   by RiPPA (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

This emu rocks. BTW, all my saved games work and all my games work from the previous version. I bet some people didn't delete their profiles folder.

The standard version is really slow. I tested it out on 2.0. Just recently downgraded back to 1.5 since it seems theres no hope in playing the Syphon Filter beta on 2.0. No way in hell am I upgrading to 2.6 just to play a beta thats gonna be gone in like 2 weeks. Nice try Sony. But anyways, the "me" version on 1.5 runs alot faster than 0.2c. I guess this release is really for the 1.5 users unless a new eboot loader comes out to work with the new settings of the new version.

Keep up the good work TYL.

by Illegal Machine (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

I get this on a lot of sites.

I have an opinon, some ****wads don't like it, then they start attacking

I THINK THIS EMU IS SUB PAR.

it would be nice if y's version had the GPU acceleration, but o well. its pretty ****in good I think.

and this one isnt.

and I'm NOT ungrateful. I download everything that comes off of this site and I love a ****LOAD of it.

if you think having making statements is ALL sucking the programmers ****s you've got another thing coming. fact is, these comments make the emulators better whether YO Ulike hearing bad things about your "GODS" or not

so swallow your crappy opinions about ME, and consider the FACT that this emulator isnt all that.

   by mallchin (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

@teknogeek1300,

LMAO, chill out, your obviously pissed because you don't have a 1.5, big deal, get over it, stop acting like a 5yr old. You'd only scratch it up anyway ;)

   by muddysheeper (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

@Illegal Machine: Noone complains about constructive criticism, it's just that you should keep to a certain form of politeness around here as most of us wouldn't be able to come up with any code at all. So as much as we need pointing out the weaknesses to improve things for the future, we should also appreciate the amount and excellence of work that's gone into a piece of software like that. Which I shall do right here:

Amazing job! Keep it up!

"But anyways, the "me" version on 1.5 runs alot faster than 0.2c. I guess this release is really for the 1.5 users unless a new eboot loader comes out to work with the new settings of the new version."

Good to hear that! Nice (:, can't wait to check this emulator out!

Does anyone have any problem with Save State? It doesn't seem to work for me. When I select it, it'll say 'Saving State...' and only a split second later return to game. I can't load state because it says it doesn't exist. And there are no state files in the SAVE folder.

0.2c save state works fine, its only in this new 0.3. And I've done things like format the MS, and reinstalling the loader and reverting to previous loader versions; nothing's worked.

   by Hamsandwhich (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

Does this version support translation patches? The previous one didn't seem able to play translated versions Digit Devil Summoner, or other games with patches. That's why I prefer Y's emulator. If this one can do that, I'll switch... but I am pretty loyal to Y right now.

   by louisoquinn (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

Hmmm... Pretty much the same speeds, but I keep my sound output at 44Khz w/ this one. Which is cool, but I don't think I'll be using it due to the whole "sleep mode will crash your PSP" inconvenience. That was a pretty big step, and then to remove the option? Not fair :(

It's worth noting that Tales of Phantasia runs ten times faster with this update (due to the mode 7 speedup, I would imagine). It's also worth noting that you NEED to have your sound set to 44. Or else everything sounds and plays like garbage :P (ie: worse than the prev version on the same settings).

I'll keep it on my PSP aside the old version, just in case I want to play Tales :P. I've done A LOT of testing between these 2 versions, and can only notice a slight difference in a scant few games.

All the same, very good work keeping this brilliant emu alive. Don't want to sound like a numbnuts douche critic (like most ppl on this board...), but this would quickly become my ONLY SNES emu if it supported sleep mode :(

Illegal Machine shut up, it's time to change your layers.

"it'll say 'Saving State...' and only a split second later return to game. I can't load state because it says it doesn't exist. And there are no state files in the SAVE folder."

im having the exact same problem

can anyone help?

   by Ziim (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

YO SNESTYL TEAM!!!! I have been here since hello world. Your emulator is a fantastic piece of code. I think I speak for a majority of THE REAL Hombrew Scene when i say screw these other people!!! All the work you put into the emu(and it is noticable)is much appreciated. I am sorry that your emu has been trashed by people that can barley turn the power on there PC. The only complainers i see here and on other blogs are morons. I tried to be nice but USER ERROR is just that. If ya dont know how to use basic electronics, then hombrew is not for you. Besides those people dont donate anyway, there just parasites on the community. I vote for, take your time, and do what you want. Last time i checked this IS YOUR PROJECT and YOUR TIME SPENT. Again a Big thanks from someone who knows how to use there PSP!

   by Chris (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

First of all, thank you for constantly developing this the most beloved emulator on PSP (this emulator will stay in my PSP for a looong time~)

I just made lot of comparison with 0.2; yes, new version is more stablized and faster than 0.2.

However, may be I was expecting too much from the new update (since because you guys happen to be the most reliable and solid dev out there)-
I only kept RPGs for SNES because of the speed issue- yes, most action games are playable but didn't think it was good enough to be played on 0.2(yes, I'm being picky here)
It is true that there's overall improvement in terms of speed and etc, but personally I don't think the playability of action games are there yet.

But hey, I'm grateful for your tremendous efforts (--)(__)(--)

ps: setting gfx as 'accelerated' does cause some blank screen (Super Metroid, Tactics Ogre) So I recommend accelerated & accu. soft

   by SeikeN (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

Great speed increase!! I only have a few minor sound issues and my biggest problem:

It doesnt find my savestates and i cant import any savestates from the SnesTYL 0.2c version i still have.. When i try to import a state it just says ''File not in snes9x freeze format''.

That is an annoying issue as i wouldn't like to play games like Chrono trigger and FF3 from the start, just because this Emulator is faster.

But the rest is great and i appreciate all your hard work, without people like you guys, we wouldnt be able to emulate ANY roms on psp at a decent speed!! Keep up the good work!

If you wanna use save states on other emulators, all you have to do is save in game, i think its .srm or something and then load that up with another emulator in game, and thats it.

   by serpentor (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

Illegal Machine,

You come on here and complain about every great piece of homebrew. You complained about Dgen, you complained about PMP Mod (!!), and now you complain about TYL.

Your opinions are really worth jack **** b/c those are 3 of the best homebrew apps out for the PSP right now. Just because you enjoy watching your crapy mp4s over full res xvid, and playing your roms on dead emulators (PSPGen and uo_snes I presume), doesn't mean you have to come on here and complain about everything else that's better. Either code it yourself or STFU!

   by QW(ee)N_SRYCH (Unregistered) - 2006-02-05

@illegal machine

ok.. so those burst of spazes were your 'opinions' huh

well why dont you consider tryin somtin called 'politeness' cuz it duznt sound like an 'opinion' if you start em with
"snes9x sux because.." "u guys are ****wads because.."
sounds more like bullsh*t ;)
